Alternate Animation Wish List

I am extremely happy with the alternate animations that the developers provided for Super Strength and Martial Arts. I sincerely hope that more skill sets will receive equal attention eventually. If you could recieve a new animation for any 1 skill, what would it be and how would it animate?

Remember, animations are neither sped up nor slowed down, this is purely about aesthetics and will not address DPA wishes.

  • My major wish is for a new Shadow Maul animation. I would love for the character to concentrate for a brief moment and have shadowy tentacles burst from their chest and hit opponents for the Smashng/Lethal DOT that this skill provides.

(That was the funniest typo to spell check of the new year for me.)

I would like for Shadow Maul to be a true "Shadow Maul". That is, you pull out a huge mallet made of dark energy and smash your enemy with it. Maybe several times, since it would probably have to keep the multiple hit tics.

No, seriously, when I first heard the name of the power, that's what I thought it was.

I'd like to see the old Storm Kick animation as an alternate for Flurry. And Shadow Maul. And Sands of Mu. (Think Chun Li)

I'd like to see a Medicine that doesn't use the Tricorder, for those Magic heroes that take that option from the Pool.

We'll probably get the animations from the valentine's day cross-faction buffs to replace the Tricorder. They look great and are practically identical.

I also wouldn't mind Shadow Maul being a massive hammer swung repeatedly, or two large shadow warhammers appearing in each hand and smacking your foe. The problem with Shadow Maul's animation is that the punches move so slowly that it looks absolutely silly. I don't need the damage to tick faster, I just need my character to actually LOOK like they are doing damage. The Super Strength alternate animations acheved this well, where the punch itself is quick, with a slower wind down or approach to the stance to keep its DPA identical.

Ninja Run looks great on some toons, but silly on others. Don't know what a good alternate might be, though. Any suggestions?

I'd like new Assassin Strikes for Energy Melee and Dark Melee. I found it impossible to play my MA stalker until I had an alternative to that awkward crouch, and I'd be more than happy if the same alternate was made available to EM and DM.

I second the medicine pool idea - the tricorder really doesn't fit a lot of concepts.

Another place I really can't wait for some animation customization is spines and thorny assault. They fixed one of the big problems I had with the set when they allowed you to customize the spines, but I'm still not going to play it until I can pick alternates for the ridiculously silly looking barbed swipe, impale, and ripper animations.

Since it shares an animation with ripper, presumably this would also allow claws' eviscerate to get an alternate animation, which I would also approve of. I really don't like that current animation.

I'm not too hot on the total focus (and thunderstrike/tremor/etc) animation either, simply because I think it looks silly to hang there in the air so long. Given my choice, I'd actually swap it for the current energy transfer animation, but obviously that wouldn't work since that would give EM two identical looking attacks. I wouldn't mind being able to use the ET animation on the other powers which share TF's animation, though.

I'd like to have the option to have my ranged powers be shot from a gun, wand or other device. I'd love to run around with an ice gun, sonic ray or high tech flamethrower. I know that dual pistols has an ice option but I'd like to see it expanded. I want to be able to use the tricorder animation on my grav/kin controller

That's a good one-- I've always wanted to make a hero that used a 50s sci-fi ray gun to shoot blasts.

For Web Grenade (in both Traps and Devices) and Smoke Grenade (Devices) I would love an alternate animation where you fire them from an Assault Rifle (as with M30 Grenade). It just looks so silly that I can fire shotgun shells, explosive grenades, missiles and a flamethrower from my assault rifle but if I want to use a web grenade I've got to throw it by hand.

It would be nice to have an animation expressing actual rage to go with Rage, as opposed to the "repress your anger until you start yelling at your children in 15 years" animation we have now.

It is a true shadow maul. It's just using the verb version of the word. Shadow Maul sounds better, IMO, than Shadow Beat...

For me, I didn't think anything of the attack from the name. But when I first saw someone else using it I was like "OMG! What was that!?" I still like using that attack.

well, i have talked on this a few times, so bear with me
martial arts-yeah it got a street fighting pass, but i would like to see a "movie kung fu" pas next, open palm strikes, arear leg side kick with a high chambering of the knee and a full extension of the heel, the spinning open handed strike from helena's kick+punch in dead or alive as a possible eagles claw replacement. perhaps a few capoeria kicks with characters falling into negativa and kicking from the ground, and finally, perhaps have some muai thai kicks, with the hip rotation follow through, shin/instep striking surface with storm kick being a low leg strike, a high roundhouse to the face for crane kick, and a leaping knee strike for eagle's claw.

next, i wouldn't mind alternate animation for the medicine pool. the tricorder works for tech based characters, but maybe have a scroll with some illuminated runes (or kanji symbols) hovering above it as an alternate animation for magic themed guys, or a more modern first-aid kit with a spray type attachemnt for more natural characters.


for shadow maul the image i have is not the hammer(though that makes sense) but id prefer to see the character's hands become enveloped in black glove like claws, for a bear-like maul, maybe that would work.

also, for elemental attacks that are non weapon specific, i wouldn't mind seeing some kicks or more martial artsy alternate animations. just too much use of the overhead smash, body blow, and one-two combo for my taste, a few extra options would help a lot.

I'd like alternate sword/no sword animations for fire (and I guess Ice) melee.

eg
Cremate could have a sword animation.
Fire Sword Circle could have a sword free animation.

The current fists and swords mixed set falls between two concepts far too often.

And I second the idea of a raygun set for energy blast.

I second this !! I have always wanted to play fire (actually I am doing just that right now), but we should have all swords or all fists as options. Makes it much easier to build for concept.

Adding alternate animations for pool powers is a definite wishlist as well.

Boxing ---> Barrage style option
Kick ---> Thunder Kick style option
Jump Kick ---> something new and better, for example ( hero jumps forward leading with one knee and snaps a kick to the face, then continues in a backward somersault to land where he began the animation. Similar to Eagle's claw but more of a straight up back-flip than a stylish double flip.

And as mentioned, something else for the medicine pool.

Also, I want alternate animations for powers that use the "Y" pose (as in YMCA). Its not a bad animation, but I much prefer the "frisbie" throw.

Finally, the "fearsome stare" animation just bothers me. "I STARE AT THEE"
I can envision an animation similar to a sonic blast, where you snap your head back and forth but instead of rings flying out, how about skulls (lots of them) with really spookey sounds.

uhm, I am sure there are more. :/

I'd like a version of Blazing Aura that doesn't have that irritating pulsing to it. Even a simple port of the Hot Feet animation would be nice.

I'd like a version of Quills where the flying quills themselves are invisible.

I'd like blast attacks to have beams-from-the-eyes alternate animations.

Another vote for alternate Medicine Pool animations.

Definitely support the all swords/no swords for the fire and ice melee sets as well as non-tech medicine.

Also, not quite animation, but I'd love a No-FX version of the psionic/mind control sets - or at the least, FX on target only. I want to attack their minds directly, not fire some pink thing at them....

I'd really love to see some alternate animations to go with shield defense. Right now, a lot of the two-handed powers look really stupid with a big old shield on your left arm (shadow maul, thunder strike, etc.) I'd like to see them changed to only use one arm.

For that matter I'd also like to have the effects of the shield defense set without actually having to carry a shield. It would work better concept wise for some of my characters, and it would allow it to be played with any primary/secondary choice. I don't expect this one will ever actually happen though.

I would like to mix NR with the arms-flailing-in-the-air run that citizens do in the bank missions. Arms waving in the air, with ninja run feet. YES!

Poison. Its animations are all over the place and I can't see them fitting any theme very well. I'm a Tech-origin, so, I shouldn't be spitting or breathing fumes on anyone.

Mind you, with a cigar, and grey-smokey looking effects noxious gas could be second hand smoke But otherwise, no.

I would definitely like for sets that branch into multiple concepts to have options that unify it.

All Hammer or no hammer for stone, all Sword/No Sword for Fire/Ice,
and all Mouth/Head or No Mouth/Head(also known as "wave your hands in the air") for Poison.

I'd also like a No-screaming animation set for sonics, using the same or similar animations of other Buff/Debuff and ranged sets. For people who are using hand-held devices or non-voice based powers.

I'd like to see the dual blade animations on Claws. The little jabs in the gut don't look like a wild claw-wielder.
