So, what does that mean?
I bet it means you start over again at a lower level.

I love Billy Madison.

Also, you really have to give the artist credit for attention to detail. Take a look at the strap on her thigh. Rather than just drawing a strap there, the artist actually showed the indentation that the strap would make on her skin.

...

...

... sometimes I think too much.

... and the more I think about that, the more sense it makes. We can't mail Inf across the hero/villain divide, but we can send all our Inf to an alt before we make the transition.
At most I think (hope) it would be an inf reduction rather than a complete loss (losing 25% of it rather than 100%, for example). Because personally, it makes sense to me that a highly popular hero suddenly turning evil will suddenly have more street cred on the other side than some nameless guy that does the same. If Superman goes evil, the entire world cowers. If some random dude who no one's heard of follows the same path... then who cares?

Point being, it makes sense to me that at least some of that "street cred" can be transferred, even if not fully. And the only reason I can think of why it wouldn't is just as an inf sink mechanic... which would be useless, since people would just transfer all their inf to an alt before switching, if that were the case.

...Although, thinking about it, it might be neater if there was an inf cost (based on level) associated with switching sides, rather than just losing a percentage of what you have. Say, if you're doing some evil stuff as a hero, that doesn't AUTOMATICALLY give you access to the Rogue Isles... someone has to offer it to you. Give you the option to take the plunge, and change your loyalties. And if you do, you have to pay a set amount of inf to change sides, otherwise "a no-name like you isn't even worth the effort".

Doing it that way makes more sense to me... and would help prevent "accidental" side swaps, which is always good (especially if the devs tie some sort of reward to NOT switching sides).

Perhaps, but how would it be explained that a high-level Hero can suddenly not use his/her powers? Does a level fifty Dual Pistol Blaster just forget how to use the more damaging attacks s/he's been pummeling Arachnos grunts with for the last few months?

It's interesting that she said Posi's endgame system is part of Going Rogue. I assumed we wouldn't be seeing it until an issue or two afterwards.

Maybe GR will be the first phase of endgame and Posi's team will add more to the system as time goes on.

The same way we can'y use those powers while on a team with a lower level mission...

If the end-game is WoW-like mega-raids, as I suspect is likely, they could easily begin with one and add more over time. Indeed, this seems like a good reason for having a dedicated end-game team in the first place.

Speaking of "accidental" side switches, that's something I've been wondering about for a while. The first mention of making a moral choice in a mission by a dev (since the NCSoft takeover, anyway) was something along the lines of "(a) kill the evil dictator and cause society to collapse or (b) let him live and continue hurting everyone." Neither of those choices seems like an obvious right or wrong to me; both seem fairly bad. Certainly, neither seems patently heroic or villainous. Maybe, since this is a comic-themed game, we're supposed to apply Batman Morality and assume that Killing Is Always Evil, And Anyone Who Does It Is A Horrible Monster, No Matter The Circumstances. If so, I'd like to know in advance so that I don't have a heroic character make the wrong Impossible Choice.

Basically, I'm hoping that when one is doing a side-switching mission, the moral choices are obvious. Yes, this runs against the "shades of grey" concept that's being pushed with Going Rogue, but as long as the concept of "sides" exists, so does some form of absolute, in-game code of right and wrong. It would be disingenuous to create a story about a choice of evils and then, when the character returns to the contact, be told, "The evil you decided NOT to choose? That one was actually a good."

My take on it.

Quote:
Aside from the visuals, it’s an avenue for players to find out how the “mirror half” lives. Signature character characters that you have come to know in CoH/CoV, you’ll get to meet again for the first time in Praetoria. There are a lot of “details” that went into Praetoria that I think players will find interesting. And yes, I’m keeping it vague because it’ll be up to them to figure out what they are.
We've met the Praetorian Freedom Phalanx, but none of the Rogues. And there are a lot of other secondary characters we may encounter. What would a Praetorian TV or Radio be like? Is there a Praetorian Hero 1?

Quote:
Essentially, “going rogue” is a process; it’s not a flip-a-switch decision. You make choices (via missions) that redirect your heroic (or villainous) path. But we didn’t want to make it too onerous or tedious, so we tried to keep things relatively simple.
Quote:
Those ways involve taking on missions that let you choose to take a morally questionable approach to handling the situation. If you continue choosing the morally ambiguous way of ‘saving the day’, you essentially move the pointer away from Hero and closer to Vigilante
Quote:
You can still do many of the missions associated with the Going Rogue system, and just not take the plunge and change your alignment when presented with that choice.
There are already missions marked "heroic" or "villainous" in game as well as the option to set the morality for AE missions. My guess is that doing these missions will move your "morality meter" towards the other side with rogue being a midway for villains and vigilante a midway for heroes.

The "Going Rogue System" will entail much more than Praetoria. I am also venturing a guess that Praetoria, and perhaps a new villainous zone, will be co-op. Why? Villains can be heroic in RWZ and Cimerora. Where do heroes get to cross the line? I think it will be more than just Praetoria, or perhaps those two co-op zones will have new villainous missions.

I bolded "many" in the quote because that seems to indicate that there are at least some missions where you do have to make the choice and change alignment.

I take this to mean that influence is not a valid currency villainside and infamy is not valid hero side. I'm not sure how they are going to handle this, but I am hazarding a guess that you will be able to collect both infamy and influence.

There might be one or two things featuring multiple teams (like Hamidon Raids) but I suspect most of the end-game content will be for a single team. This makes the content a lot more accessible which I suspect will be one of their goals. Even in WoW all of the new raids contain a 10-man variant specifically because Blizzard realized the larger team sizes limited the number of people who got to see the content. Realistically developers want content to be accessible to as large a portion of the playerbase as possible since that helps retain subscriptions.

Great stuff!

I just hope we don't lose IOs, or levels when we switch. I have one toon that was made years ago, who has been looking for a way out of the isles. I would hate for him to lose power over what is pretty much an RP issue for me.

I believe that it's Hero > Vigilante > Villain > Rogue > Hero

Although it might be Hero > Vigilante > Rogue > Villain > Rogue > Vigilante > Hero

I haven't been thinking of it in a circular sense. Very cool if that's how it'll work.

My understanding from the Con is that this is how it will work.

Hmm, In the interview WW said " I had to ask the question, “What does it mean to be Praetorian?” It sounds simple enough, but there are a lot of details: What kind of currency do they use?" .

Does this mean we're looking at a third currency, and what about Wentworths, will there be another market not connected to either hero or villianside?

Does make me think though: not many people take MM attacks outside of the cool factor (which will soon become obsolete come DP), so if whips are going to be a defining trait of Demon Summoning, does that mean we might be seeing a pet set that trades some pet damage in return for increased personal MM damage/attacks?

I might be daft, but maybe I can hope they would balance MM personal attacks.
Seriously the endurance cost for what you get out of MM attacks is criminal, especially on Thugs. I had to respec out of Empty clips instantly, because of how appalling it was. And this was with SOs and Stamina, might I add.

My namesake MM had a pulse rifle attack until his last respec, partly because the build called for it, and because I have the Nem staff to fill in, and the bots themselves can do so much damage now, and he's so hard to kill that I opted to take other stuff instead.

Fallen avatars start at level 1 on the opposite side?

More seriously, I think it might mean that you'll be able to access the current contacts on the other side eventually, but you'll need to establish your street cred via missions from new contacts - although you'd still be able to join teams an do other peoples's missions.

For example, a fallen Hero wouldn't be able to access any current CoV contacts right away - they'd have to unlock them via moral choice missions given out by new contacts in CoV - so you'd be able to ewither prove yourself as a Villain to Recluse by the choices you made in them, or remain as a Vigilante and an outsider in the Rogue Isles.
