Didn't see this elsewhere. Hope I'm not posting old news.

Going Rogue with City of Heroes - A Q&A with Melissa Bianco

Here's the bit I found most exciting:

Quote:
Melissa: Well, if you should decide that being a hero and rescuing citizens from purse snatchings is no longer your cup of tea, there are ways of moving towards a less pristine image. Those ways involve taking on missions that let you choose to take a morally questionable approach to handling the situation. If you continue choosing the morally ambiguous way of ‘saving the day’, you essentially move the pointer away from Hero and closer to Vigilante.. Eventually there will come a point when you’re clearly a Vigilante. Although technically you’re still a Hero, you can now walk the razor’s edge between light and dark by taking missions on the other side to see if the villainous life is truly what calls to you. If you find the life of a nefarious villain is up your alley, you can ultimately choose to take the plunge! Now, having said that, there’s no law that says once you’re a Villain you’ll never have the opportunity to do right by society. And for that shiny new Fallen Hero, well, old habits tend to die hard…

There was another interview the other day that I blew off linking here, too. Where was that one... Hrm.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

This one?

I find this interesting from that interview:

Quote:
Having said that, if you just pick up and walk away from everything you’ve accomplished as a hero, there are consequences to your decisions. If you’ve made a name for yourself in the higher echelons of Paragon City, what makes you think you have any street cred in the Rogue Isles?
So, what does that mean? Influence doesn't translate to infamy perhaps?

Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth

If so, that might be another reason why we're getting the ability to mail Inf to alts in Issue 17.

... and the more I think about that, the more sense it makes. We can't mail Inf across the hero/villain divide, but we can send all our Inf to an alt before we make the transition.

Hey! Are you trying to derail my derailment?

Seriously though, the way it makes it sound is like there will be a set of "entryway" missions on both sides... and if you take enough of those "entryway" missions... then the rest of the missions from ALL sides will be opened to you. And if you are a hero and run too many villain missions, then you'll switch over and vice versa. At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

Sounds pretty cool if you ask me. I like the shades of gray aspect.

I thought it was worth a token futile effort.

To me it sounds like we'll actually get to make the key choices in the mission. War Witch says you can play the new GR content without using it to change alignments with, so from that I think there will be special 'choose your path' missions that you can wrap up in a heroic way or a villainous way.

For example, you're a hero retrieving some stolen cash. You could choose to pocket some of it for yourself. Nobody would be any the wiser. Or you're a villain who has a hostage to deliver to Arachnos, but you choose to let them go instead.

On a different note, from the second interview:

Quote:
Because he’s so powerful, you won’t be running into Tyrant until later on in your career. He is part of the endgame plan that Matt “Positron” Miller has in the works and it all ties into Praetoria.
Ooh, first real hint of the endgame!

The quote about Tyrant and the hint about someone that can meet your hero "blow for blow" really sounds like they're going for a Praetorian Mirror You "arch-nemesis" vibe here...

Considering that we will in fact be playing Praetorians in a few months time, adding in tech to have us fight Praetorian versions of ourselves doesn't seem feasible.
What the heck is the Praetorian version of a Praetorian?

Why am I the only one that thinks Desdemona was a chunkster as a teen? She looks like she could have done the truffle shuffle in her early years. XD

I can't help but picture a bloated 20 something year old Des'; spoon feeding herself ice-cream out of a tub of Ben N' Jerry's while crying over a guy that dumped her because she was fat.

No one else?

War Witch is awesome by the way.

1) She doesn't look much over 20 in the pics anyway
2) I've more of an image of her summoning a couple of screeching, gibbering abominations to rip that guy to bits before dragging his screaming soul back to the black pits from whence they came.

Don't give a damn about a City of movie (because chances are it'll suck) but props for the pic of Ms Von Teese. Of course I'm far to old and mature to use the "I'll be in my bunk" line... Wait, damn.

I'm curious about whether these missions are never-ending, in that you can kind of bounce back and forth between Hero and Villain (or at least Rogue and Vigilante) as many times as you want. Will there be a cap? Apart from the assumed disadvantages of switching over so many times (for instance, losing influence or infamy each round).

I originally thought that it was just one set of key missions, which determined your path from then on, no takebacks. But from the interviews, it seems like I was mistaken, so a character could conceivably travel all over the morality map at any time.

I can kind of see myself repeating the missions on a level 50, going from Hero to Villain to Hero to Villain and so on, just to try it out. (Because I am easily amused.)

Sorry, is this made in humour or not?
Because it sounds really quite nasty, if it is.

Yeah, de-rail of de-railing de-rail. But I have views about bloody size 0s and all that carp...

I've read it again and you may well be right. Here's what WW actually says:

Quote:
You can still do many of the missions associated with the Going Rogue system, and just not take the plunge and change your alignment when presented with that choice.
So I guess that could mean 'doing all the missions that push your alignment towards Vigilante, just not taking the final step and becoming a Villain' and vice versa.

It may come across as nasty. But It's the picture I can't seem to shake from my head.

Anywho, I really like how War Witch has hit the ground running and has jumped into her role rather seemlessly.

The one thing that's bothering me is the Dev questionaire... perhaps she has been too busy to get around to it?
