I love animals and I love girls so why not mix the two, i don't do it to turn me on. anime females are enough for me anyways.
hehehe I made a priest named *Father Mcnally* and my RL buddy made a young boy called *Gods little finger* and we only play these toons togther I wonder what people think about us. Oh oh oh and every now and then he makes a comment "did you just touch my ***?" and I respond with a "Shhhhhh".

We dont normally RP but this is just to funny not to.

I think it is possible you guys could get reported for that... though I think I would find it humorous and leave that to someone else.

Also, "God's little finger"? Do I really want to Google that?

Lastly, I guess I am the only one who had no idea "lolita" was anything but a person's name...

I just googled it just to see no nothing dirty I promise.

to be fair, the costume creator has long been one of coh's major draws, so a alteration that fixes an issue that was initially brought up in beta is going to make some people happy, particularly when several issues that players were bracing themselves for as limitations didnt happen. also, we really know nothing about the content, and the qol fixes, whle cool, are all fairly specific. my lowbies are thrilled that i will be able to filter down influence to them with my 50's, and the additional mission slots will alleviate a lot of pressure that i sometimes get into, but this is a fix to one of coh's main draws, so the reaction is not unexpected really, even among non monstrous character players. trust me, if back details get announced, the thread will be 3 times as long by now.

Pretty much this. I know a lot of us like spin it that "Oh, yeah I guess it has customization, but I'm really here for the IOs and the challenge and the fights and all that." But really, a LOT of people got hooked on this game because of the costumes. It's not even always an unbridled love for customization that gets people making thousands of costumes all day. A lot of the times, it's just getting ONE character spot on that does this. Even if some people don't want to admit it, the character creator is a very large part of the draw to this game.

So, when it gets improved in an actually REAL way, this does get people excited. And this is a real improvement. It may not be huge, it may not introduce thousands of new costume pieces, but it's an upgrade to the underlying skeleton of the thing. This isn't just a few more tails. This is tails on their own costume node AND animated. It's a big thing. Bigger for some than for others, but even if you never use the pieces themselves, it is a symbol of optimism, both that the costume creator is still being improved and that the things YOU really want but seem implausible might actually happen one day, too.

Tails have been a complaint so long-standing they became a part of our culture here. It's like complaining that gravity pulling things down sucks. We got so used to it we even forgot it was a problem, so them being fixed now really is a big thing.

And I love it

This is the sort of thing I like and wish to see more of.

A big issue with a lot of cool stuff, and then a small, totally awesome, QoL piece tossed in there as well.

If it was just added on its own, then people would complain about the waste of time, but since it's coming with a whole lot of other stuff, people don't mind so much.

Hurray!

I think you and I have different definitions of "so much"

Generally, people always complain that this wasn't what they wanted, but in this case we have an added reason for people to complain - hate-mongering.

Ah, but just imagine the outcry if Animated Tails® was released on its own.

Wow, all this from animated tails. I dropped out of this thread for too long, obviously.

1) Jessica Rabbit and/or Minerva Mink aren't by any means the archetypical example of "toons can be sexy". Google "Red Hot Riding Hood". Assuming you haven't already seen it.

2) Fred Perry rules. He and Adam Warren are my favorite American artists.

3) I have a werewolf story where, similar to an earlier post, they do not transform from human to wolf form. Their forms are permanent, following the initial (several hours long) transformation. They are also quadropedal, although their bodies do have adaptations allowing them to use their hands and stand upright for short periods.

Similarly, my werewolf character in game, Loopy Loup Garou, has only a werewolf form and no human form. There are hints that his condition is artificial, although he insists he is a "real" werewolf and in fact has gone on the run from the law until he can prove that. He also appears to have human proportions from the waist down, not the "reverse knee" dog configuration, and has no tail, so he's actually not going to be effected by the topic, although I have other characters that certainly will.

In digitigrade legs what you're thinking of as a "reverse knee" is actually the ankle. It's just that the carpals and tarsals are elongated and the animal walks on its toes. Which has some definite advantages for moving rapidly on the ground.

Yep, I know that, which is why I put it in quotes. I actually did a lot of research when I was coming up with my werewolf design. And really, walking on your toes isn't that easy for a biped, so likely it wouldn't be realistic. It's just the Rule of Cool in effect.

Do any actual bipedal animals have backwards knees in nature, though? That'd be good for reference materials, as I tend to not like how artists usually draw them as basically elongated feet and people walking on their toes. Granted, it's probably more realistic that way, but it just looks goofy to me. The much more stylised backwards legs with a shorter shin bone and vertical foot seem to look a lot more natural for some reason.

As a point of reference, check out Mass Effect's Tali'Zora.

Though it comes the cost of reduced stability, especially on for a bipedal creature.

I guess it's very fitting then that my biggest group of custom AE critters are vulnerable to knockdown.

oh by the way my photos weren't dirty unless you were attracted to them. It is a guy that has 2 personalities and one personality cross dresses. I don't have many photo of that clothes style. But I have plenty of photos that look attractive but are actualy guys. In a forum group I am with we have a contest of guess if the person in the picture is male or female. I am the reigning champion, for some odd reason lol.

Birds have been doing it for millions of years following in the footsteps (literally) of their dinosaur ancestors... Stability issues aren't really greater than being a biped in the first place. Actually, most bipeds are digitigrades.

See above. Birds, humans and several other primate species are primarily bipedal on the ground. Bears, Pangolins and a variety of rodents are partially bipedal. Mostly for combat, manipulation, digging and looking around.

Or were you using animal to mean mammal?

Not sure about mamals but do birds count? Birds have a fused Tibia and fibula but are arranged in a similar way.
Ostriches don't have any trouble running with their "knees" pointing backwards.

Edit; Damn, typed too slow.

In a similar vein to the pics you posted, you could alway look at this girl, think she's pretty, then realize that it's Ranma Saotome

To bring this argument back to its point of origin, the question was how bipedal humanoids using "backwards knees" would actually look and walk. Ostriches are what I was thinking about when I asked about bipeds, and having looked up an ostrich skeleton, I immediately spot a potential problem with translating this into human analogues.

The ostrich's posture makes it look like it has normal straight legs, only with the knees pointing the other way, but it is, in fact, walking on its toes. However, its thigh bones are so short that the thighs themselves end up being almost entirely sunk into the body, and definitely sunk into the "shape" of the bird, so they don't actually look like they even exist. The shin and foot bones, by comparison, are about equal length and make up what we perceive as the leg.

To transcribe this to a human, we'd need to shorten the thighs so much they would end up looking like just a big butt, and we'd end up with basically backwards knees. However, the ostrich's frame is actually horizontal at the rib cage and it has a fair bit of bone back behind the legs, which makes it look and act stable. Just shifting a human frame's knees back would at the very least make it look like it'll topple over.

The above explanation is why I'm not sure we should be looking to nature as to how to properly draw "backwards knees." If anything, I'd look to existing anthropomorphic artists, as even though they use bizarre anatomy, they end up making up for it with style and artistic talent. Just to emphasise the point and explain what I mean, here's a a fox thing as drawn by Vanessa Santo (why do I keep thinking her name is De Santo?)

That's basically a human leg if the shin bone were very short and the leg bone very long.
