Heroes/Villans!!
Anything I should know about as far as social rules? Do's/ Not Do's?

Do: Realize that Dev's hate villains, and any decision is only a thinly masked attempt to slowly but surely kill off villain side, while simultaniously slapping the face of every villain player at once so hard that the WoW players can feel it and eroding the very souls of the playerbase in an apocolyptic death rattle.
Dont: Try to scoop Sho. IT'S NOT WORTH IT MAN!

A slightly belated welcome to the boards then. The obvious answer to your red-side inquiry, since you love RP, is to drop a villain into the Virtue server, home to the craziest RPers in the multiverse. You'll probably find a good RP villain group to hook up with when hanging out in Virtue's Pocket D.
People have said that Villain ATs are easier to solo with, so that does make teaming a bit less frequent on the red side - Going Rogue might change things a bit once Hero ATs start turning up in the Rogue Isles - but until then, I'd suggest you join the main chat channel of whatever server you play on - they're the best way of finding teams, as well as general chat.

Do: remember that the way you play may not always be the way others play. Some RP, some don't. Some PvP, some don't.
Don't: be rude. Unless the person in question is an absolute git with the social skills of a slobbering rabid weasel high on angel dust. In which case, a scathing eloquent putdown followed by putting said git on /ignore works just fine.
Do: be willing to try different servers. Make a couple low level characters. Sound out the folks on there, see how you like 'em. If it's not your scene, move on. You've got til the end of Feb to transfer any characters you get attached to, for free.
Don't: be afraid to form your own team. Some folks just stand around and howl for a team and then wonder why no one wants to play. When in doubt, form your own and see who wants to join. To that end...
Do: read search messages when recruiting. If someone says they're not interested in teaming, don't bother them. And for that matter...
Don't: send blind invites. Politely send a tell, usually including a bit of info on the level, zone, and mish. For example, "heya, lvl 10 team forming to do the Midnighter Club Arc, care to help?" will get you MUCH farther (or at least a more polite decline) than just "need a kin".
Do: look stuff up on the forums. If you want to know some of the best ways of trying something, you might find the answer here. And...
Don't: be afraid to ask someone. Again, be polite and concise when you ask, and the answers you get are more likely to be intelligent and informed.
Happy hunting!

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Halloo!
You mentioned you like Trollers and Fenders so I was thinking that red-side you would probably enjoy Doms, Masterminds, and possibly Corruptors. My fave 50 is a Troller and I solo'ed him (mostly) and loved every minute of it. When I was deciding on builds for my villains I had read on the forums that Doms were weaksauce but when I took my new Earth/Elec out for a test-drive I loved it . I gotta say Domination-building is a fun little mini-game unto itself.
My 50s:
Prime Minister MA/SR Scrap - Protector
Captain Hit-Guy DM/Reg Scrap - Freedom
Prime-Minister ILL/TA Troller - Freedom
Ultimate Minister Inv/SS Tanker - Freedom

- Knockback
- Healers
- Server mergers
- Statements that any server (or the game at large) has a low/dwindling population
- PvP
It's best to just not participate in such discussions, although reading them can serve as a good reminder of why you shouldn't take a game too seriously.
Yeah Doms Redside are very good, as well as Masterminds - MM's especially if you like yer RP. I find so much time to RP mid-battle whilst my minions do all the hard work.
Oh and Welcome!
This community is very touchy on some subjects, and constructive discussion is impossible no matter how well-intentioned you are:

TEH GAME IZ SRS BSNS!
Seriously though, what everyone else has said is very truthful. This is a great community, disagreements aside.
This *is* a great month to try the various servers and find one you like. If you dig RP, try Virtue. It's the unofficial RP server. If it's not populated enough for you, try Freedom--I've found it to be far more populated of late, which suits me for teaming. (But that's my personal experience of late, and subject to criticism.)
Once you've found a server you like, feel free to use your server transfer tokens and move your characters over.
And by all means, find a good supergroup! An active one! They work wonders.
Most importantly tho: HAVE FUN. It's not supposed to be a job.
On the forums, DO NOT mention Troy Hickman, it causes him to appear and Jack your thread.
...Wait... Well maybe he didn't notice.

Welcome!
Post on your server boards that you're looking for an active SG, one that RPs. You'd probably have the best luck finding one on Virtue.

I've never been so humiliated!
Well, maybe not "never." I remember that time in kindergarten when I just couldn't hold it anymore and I left a big puddle in the back row, and I hoped they'd blame it on my deskmate Todd Fleming...
...who always made me think of figure skater Peggy Fleming. Hey, speaking of figure skaters, that Dorothy Hamill was always a looker, wasn't she? I think it was her hair that got me...
...and y'know who else had great hair? Lynda Carter. Say, did you ever see that episode of the old Wonder Woman show where Lorene Yarnell played Formicida, the queen of the ants? Of course, she was the mime partner of Robert Shields back in those days...
...now if you want to talk mime, there was no one like Red Skelton. Man, I loved that guy. Y'know, he was a Hoosier like me. You know where the word "Hoosier" comes from, don't you? That's been an interesting conjecture over the years. Maybe we should talk about that...
P.S. Glad to have you on the boards, Drew! If you need a team in-game, my global is @CommonGrounds.
P.P.S. Play my new guest author arc in Architect!
P.P.P.S. Excelsior!
Troy Hickman - So proud to have contributed to and played in this wonderful CoH universe
How DARE you! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!

At least he didn't mention his lack of pants this time...
Please dont walk up to any female avatar and ask rude comments...
/sigh
I have a villain group on Champion and I'm always interested in teaming.

what help with villains.
Dom's are just like trollers, but they do more damg then support.
Corrs are a much stronger defender.
each have their own greatness and weakness.
Doms- Attack power and domination
Corrs-..much stronger then defenders lol.
Masterminds are a alround good AT for people new to Villains. Nice support for a team or solo, and the ability to control your pets for damage.
if your still not sure i would say masterminds first, people seem happy to look at other AT's after a MM. Challenge- Doms- Lower Levels- their not the easiest toon compared to others, but in my eyes, a more fun to play toon then others.(experience- 1x50,1x46,1x2) corrs are inbetween, easy and challenge depending on powers while still giving you the ability to have fun.
Do: Enjoy YOUR way of playing...PvE, PvP, *shakes head* Farming, Soloing etc etc.
Don't: Let people tell you how to play...make mistakes- u learn.
Don't: Listen to people who dont give Villains a chance. its slower and harder (points-teaming at lvls) stick to it and it'll reward you.
Cant say about Villain RP tho (i only do it here n there with my vg).

I mostly agree with Laevateinn's post; I myself came only to post "never call anything a healer." Seriously.
"Hey baby, I know your just a healer, but how about we go back to my place. I'll show you my ED, you show me your dwindling server population, and lets Merge servers all night long!"
...and y'know who else had great hair? Lynda Carter. Say, did you ever see that episode of the old Wonder Woman show where Lorene Yarnell played Formicida, the queen of the ants? Of course, she was the mime partner of Robert Shields back in those days... |
You know...now that you mention it Lynda Carter DID have hair.
Funny for some reason I never noticed her hair.
Ello all! I'm new to the boards and I'm trying to get more active in them. I've started on being more active on my CoH Faces account but wanted to give a try on the boards as well!
Simply because I can't find any fun in them. Now I know i couldn't be this disappointed unless I was doing something wrong. Any tips on fun builds or cool SG's out there?
Anything I should know about as far as social rules? Do's/ Not Do's?
Also, got a concern. I'm big on playing on teams, mainly because I use Controllers or Defenders, so doing solo stuff is never much fun for me. Therefore, i always try to hop on a team whenever I go online. Now with Heroes it's a bit easier. But Villains is another story.
The highest Villain i have is lvl 2.
P.S. I'm big on RP.
