This would be freaking awesome, but I think you're expecting just a bit too much.

*crosses fingers*

Here's hoping, though.

Imagine if the the War Walls go down and stay down, then the crashed Mothership in the RWZ takes off and starts gating in/launching dropships while shifting from zone to zone. That would be interesting.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

And I have to ask this question again...and only for people with Omega level clearance.

So..spoiler ahead...

Last warning....

Why do they need a Mothership?? How inefficient is it to build a massive spaceship that never has to leave the planet?? Do you see Tyrant building a ship to invade us? So why do the Rikti have to?!?!

Duh, because they're supposed to be aliens? It's part of the imagery.

Really though, it's the same principle behind the floating citadel or the warship. A fortress to hold a large number of troops that can be easily relocated.

They obviously weren't expecting it to get punched out of the sky...

You know, that never made any sense to me either. More importantly, why are they still hanging out in it? It would make a lot more sense to use their teleportation tech to move everything useful out of it to various hidden locations and them blow it up. They could then build up the portals to their own dimension in peace and quiet without having heroes bust in every few hours to destroy them.

I figure it's needed to use long range teleports, rather than just the short range stuff their troops can use. Plus, given the events of the Lady Grey TF and Dark Watcher arc (where the portal room is below the mothership, likely using the ship to power it), plus how they invaded in the first place, the motherships are probably used to open the cross-dimensional portals between here and there (albeit that ability was neutered for a while when Omega team destroyed the portal generators or whatever on the Rikti world).

And a laptop to upload a virus if they happen to use USB ports on the mothership!

My Dream. A devastation event where parts of the city are destroyed and have to be rebuilt (with GR tech).

We need to get a recon team to find out when and what is going on. I need to let my day job know that I need time off to beat some ailens

Like Swedish Meatballs, USB is one of the odd things that exists on every world in the universe.

I took it as they needed a mobile base to house there support structure and be able to return.

Tyrant made Two way portals so they can returned, Rikti's are one way ones, they also need to observe to before attacks. Placing on ground would cause to many dual existence collisions.

Alt, theory, they want us to believe they were from somewhere else, knowing were there really from would cause problems.

In theory, Tyrant can conquer a whole world by himself. He's Tyrant. He's invincible and insanely strong. Think Superman.

Rikti are strong, but they aren't that strong. Their strength comes by swarming in force. Any given hero can handle numerous rikti at once. So to invade a strong world they'd need millions, even billions of rikti. So unless their teleporters are REALLY large, a ship that can land and let everyone off is the most cost-effective way.

I have to disagree. Millions of 1-2 person portals would be much more efficient than building a massive superstructure, lifting it into the sky, moving it between dimensions only to open portals to send your troops down.

The argument could me made that the mothership is a launching platform for Dropships. However these were not used in the first war, and based on the size of the Dropships vs the size of the Mothership it seems unlikely it is the current source of the ships.

Unless you intend for the mothership to be your permanent presence in the conquered world. A Death Star fear inducing kind of thing.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

At the end of the CoH beta there was a massive invasion of Rikti, including Dev controlled commanders. This was well before the current invasion code so you would stick to zones that were your level. Above Atlas part floated the mothership, as seen in the linked picture. I didn't have a travel power at the time but many fliers went up to take a look.

awesome! So this is before cov came along? I'm 99% redside, I wonder where it would hang out in the rogue isles? I guess I didn't recognize it because I'm used to seeing the top of it in RWZ lol, assuming that's the same ship.

Speaking of Death Star, what if the Mothership has the world-destroy-o-gun on it in case the war starts to go south?
