  1. Upgrading and building a computer are not much different. Advantage from building from ground up is you KNOW every part.

A good case can last many build, as can a good PSU. A $1K budget at Newegg.com would build a fairly powerful game machine. If you are not going to overclock, a Computer is just

    - Retail CPU (has adequate Cooler)

    - Motherboard that fits CPU you selected

    - Memory, that fits motherboard (start at 4GB or 6GB)

    - System Builder Win7 (64-bit)

    - HD (size to fit, fast is better than big once over 500GB), Get a SATA-3g aka SATA-II. That is unless you do video, then Big is everything.

    - Case - If you build your own, get a Mid or Full Tower, I like my Antec 900.
depending on where you are going to have the case, is where the USB ports should be. If on the floor, ports on top, if on desk ports on bottom. Side windows are nice to do a quick check on inside parts (like is CPU fan spinning, is Motherboard Power light on, and no wires are where they shouldn't be.

    - DVD-RW (OEM is ok, Win7 does DVD natively) also get a SATA version, verify bevel matches case.

    - Video Card - to taste and budget

    - Power supply, that will supply enough juice for all above 600-750 watts is generally enough for all but SLI systems.

Guide to get cases and PSU.

Look for Cases and PSU that have many reviews, ignore number of eggs as long as 4 or 5. read worse review (generally either did not work for them or reviewer was idiot, the later is more common) Also search reviews to get good alternate case and PSU combinations.

    Ignore Combo deals.

    The stuff outside the box.

Also leave enough room in budget to get a quality keyboard and mouse, if you do not already have one. A good keyboard and mouse will last through many computers. Wireless is not for gaming, don't even think about them. Don't buy the $5 mice and $10 keyboards, they don't survive gaming very long (as in lifetime in hours). Both Logitech and Microsoft make good keyboards, stepping up to Cherry if you want a lifetime keyboard. Mice are purely to feel, some like big, some like small, some like basic mice, some like lots of buttons, some like heavy some like light. so try out the mice at Brick and Morder Store. As long as it has a good DPI it will work, if it does not list DPI, its not good for gaming. Its easier to slow a mouse down than speed one up.

Monitors prices are dropping like rocks, so just buy what you need, upgrade later. Just look for 5ms or less response time, more resolution = more powerful GPU needed. Small LCD 1080P TVs are viable monitors, but unless you are FAR away from screen, 32" is outside limit for size. With FSAA, resolution is not as important as it used to be, 1080P is 1920x1080 vs a 22" monitor is 1680"x1050" and a 24" is 1920"x1200". Most games are designed to be place at far less resolution. (BTW: 720P is 1366x768, and a typical 19" is 1440x900)

Speaker systems hold value, but they are very to taste so never buy one without listening to the system, same with headphones but they also have comfort angle. A quality sound system will last until your tired of looking at it, and headphones can last a while as well, but do get more wear and tear. I did buy my headphones online, with careful reading, (I have a literally big head (8 1/4, hat size) so fit was an issue). My speakers are 12 year old Boss Multimates, I bought for $99. They still sell for $99, but are made cheaper.

But many people care less about the "quality of sound" and the $19 speakers are just fine. Look for good build vs gimicky and you will do ok.
  2. Thanks for the info.

It looks like I should take some time and check what I can do.

Many times the DJ is in Pocket D, or somewhere else in city and people collect around, pretty much like any radio live broadcast in real life.

I have no affiliation to this web radio station, but enjoy listening to it.

(btw. I loved the Fantastic Four names sketch)
ps. I would not let my younger daughter listen to the station, its can get a little adult content (nothing more than PG-13 though, at least during day, I have not listened overnight)
  5. Given how fast server transfers happen, this seems possible. But moving a player in-game is much different than moving one that is not.
  6. If you crash in-game almost every time you will get a account in use message, then you can go right in. The game seems not two want a plaeyr out while in supergroup base or AE mission, often when I exit to Desktop and not wait 30 seconds I get that message.

By accident, I logged in twice on same account (desktop in office and netbook in living room). It knocked me off the first computer without much fanfare and could proceed to get in with second.
  7. What is the influence cap?

I have only have a couple hundred million on my characters, never really thought about there being a cap. (except playing trial with 50K cap)
  8. While the idea of wall running would be nice, I would rather devs focus on other things. Also if they made wall running, that would greatly boost the power of superspeed so some comprimises would have to be made either in speed and/or energy usage. I would not want either, as would many, so wall-running would have to be another travel power.

Personally I like the dynamics right now. Flying is simplest, Superspeed is fastest most of the time, Super jump is fastest over uneven terrain, and finally teleport is most flexible. Ninja run is nice for those that just want to get around and no real hurry to get there, and makes a nice upgrade from sprint. (I just will not pay $10 for it).

How about as "a skill to go rapidly go straight up, like jump pack, but recycle faster (but not instantly, just long enough to come crashing down from how long you use it) Enough to get over big jumps, but dangerous to use, like SJ can be.

But the point that was most telling is that the Korean government has enacted a 10% VAT on all such transactions -- I suspect that the motive behind the decision may be motivated more by Korea wanting to get a cut of what is believed to be close to a trillion dollars of transactions each year than it was by the merits of the defendants' arguments. The tax implication is a very valid reason why players should never support legitimizing RMT ins MMORPG. You would be liable for taxes on an item when you get it. So if you found that Uber Leet Sword of Unimaginable Power that could sell for $1000, you would be liable to pay takes on it then, not when you sold it. Also unless you are listed as a Professional Gamer, you would not be able to deduct any cost involved with buying other equipment. So playing games could cost a fortune in taxes, and it would be a logistical nightmare for most game companies and they would just close shop.

The you have real world theft laws come into place. RMT has no place in for virtual world games. If you buy or sell in-game objects I hope the company bans you from all their products for a long time.

I tried a couple desks, but the ones I tried were invisible from bottom. guess I should have tried some more.

The items on second floor where pretty much easy with the the floor tiles, I just lined up the safes then removed the floor tiles. Next step is to make the handrails, ran out of Prestige, so held that off for another day.

I don't think so, Lineage is NCSoft, just like CoH, I believe that is no RMT there too.
  12. I am a returning old timer. I see the term Frankenslotting, and understand it has something to do with crafted enhancements, but cannot find out what exactly it means.

    What is Frankenslotting?

An explanation or link would be appropriated.
  13. I have successfully made my workroom two floors, using the stacked safes and floor method. Is there anything (besides making floor of safes) that can be used to give the lower floor a ceiling.

I will say making the second floor made a nice cosy 2x2 work room, with a enhancement storage, a vault, a inspiration storage, and 6 tech salvage storage along. With a worktable and tech workbench. Now that its set up, I lost interest in getting the 3x4 room, I'll list get another 2x2, but that is after getting my transporters up on line.

The floor of safes, worked fine, but the I would like something different.
  14. The main source of influence in the game is definitely the Market. Buyers, Sellers and Marketers all can make money in the market.

Sellers, sell things that will not be needed for a while. Every time you have a full recipe, salvage or enhancement bar, you are loosing influence.

Buyers, put your bids in before your need something for a reasonable price, chances are your will get it. Take a look of how fast something is selling, if its not selling, chances are its either not as good as your think it is, or its so value able, no one is going to sell it for under 2B.

Marketeers, they make most of their influence there, there are always people desparate to clear out space, and there are people that want something now and care less how expensive it is. The "Now" demand is why marketers to make thier money.

The people that run in and want to get influence "Now", and those that want their item "Now" are why there is huge fluctuations.

DO NOT PUT a sell price of 1 for anything, you will sell it to someone buying under market, since those paying over market will have their order filled before your sell bid get processes. That is why you will see low sale price mixed in with high ones.

    Power Seller?

Is Power Seller, the top badge? I got that on a couple toon's now. The extra selling slots are nice.

I constantly have slightly below market bids on salvage, and flip them to sell slightly above market. I concentrate on salvage I actually need or will need in a couple levels though.
  16. Comming from DDO and LOTRO with the built in team chat, I miss that. It was great for PUGs but for Supergroups, Ventrillo or Teamspeak works better. Many people used both. In-game chat for teams (Z) and (X) for kinships (LOTRO's version of Supergroup).

I have lost all ability to type and play at the same time.

But then again, I enjoy listening to Cape Radio while playing, something that does not exist in LOTRO. It REALLY adds to the feel of Paragon City being a real place.

    What Chad said. QFE
  18. A server-less environment would be great, but the sorting out of who gives up their name is a pain, but if they gave a month of free name changes, that would be cover any qualms I have about that.

And then add the ability to add "nicknames" to friends list and I really wouldn't that I have to be "Joe The Plumber 08", on friends lists I could be just "Joe", So having a long name would not be an issue.

We however would have to have many more slots available, since many people have multiple server filled up with characters.

Tails that actually move, and are not a belt.
More Animal Parts, especially heads, legs and feet.
More optional parts on animal Heads (esp, horns on the lizard head)

    Additional Powers:

Costume Change (Metamorphisis): Become intangable for 15 seconds, during during change and return as new costume. regain some health and energy in process.

New Travel Skill: Hop, same speed as sprint but movement is done via hopping and effected by hurdles jump speed.

I took it as they needed a mobile base to house there support structure and be able to return.

Tyrant made Two way portals so they can returned, Rikti's are one way ones, they also need to observe to before attacks. Placing on ground would cause to many dual existence collisions.

Alt, theory, they want us to believe they were from somewhere else, knowing were there really from would cause problems.
  22. My Dream. A devastation event where parts of the city are destroyed and have to be rebuilt (with GR tech).
  23. I personally have not, but my daughter has sold some. She sells more directly at conventions. Her general idea was that is was not bad, but she would not put her best stuff up, its great for a couple extra bucks of the ones she does not actively print to take to sell.

Her work though is not CoH related though.
  24. If they made adjustments, that would just change the size of the biggest and littlest characters. Many characters select biggest possible and smallest posible. The current range for 4" to 8" is quite wide with the smallest being smaller than one leg of the largest. Giving quite a range to the size.

Given that an average NPC weighed 150 lbs, Characters range from 50 lbs (4" male, thin) to a ton (8" huge, heavy). Plenty enough range while staying human form.

As for size change, I bought the science booster, so I can "grow". My Wolfboy transform from a thin 4.5" boy to and 6" huge Wolf. and My brute has three sizes, 6" normal male, 6.5" huge male, and 8" huge male, all dressed the same.

It is funny how people always blame the sellers when they see these price spikes, when it's at least as likely to be 100% caused by buyers.
In this game, buyer sets the price, not sellers. I have listed many things that sold for 10x+ the price I asked . I especially like the 10 candy canes I listed last night for 50K each and got 1 million each for them.
