Look I swear I'm not trolling here. Promise. Really. Here's the thing though. I played WOW a while back and quit because I wasn't that into MMORPGS anymore. Now I'm trying to get back into it, and decided to give CoX a try. Now I know there's a lot less subscribers to this game. But, here goes. I signed up as a villain. I went through the tutorial, went to Mercy Island, put maybe 3 or 4 hours in. Kept working thinking, well it's still a low level zone, everyone else must just be high level, and that's why I'm all alone here (Btw I'm on Champion if that makes a difference). Finally I got so fed up with not seeing anyone that I transferred to the next zone over, thinking there must be people there. NOBODY. WHAT??? Even if this game has a lot of instanced zones, WHERE IS EVERYBODY???? I feel like a crazy person, like either I'm the only one whose ever on or that I must be playing a single player game that tricked me. Please, especially veteran players, somebody give me a reason to stick through this game because right now I'm bored to tears.

Well Cap au Diable is a natural zone for players to be in as it is a hub.
BUT
There is a major difference to other games like wow. This game has plenty of inside missions, that if your not on the team, you cannot enter.

To find team mates, make teams and the like type /sea
You will find an overview of various players online atm, some will be greyed out (they are mostlikely in a team (or solo) and inside a mission) Search around for various players that are in your lvl range and ask if you should do some missions together and such.
Also I do not know about the US servers that much (me being on EU) so i do not know about the timezones and the like that people on the server you are playing are in... or the one you are in (looking for US players to come to the rescue here).
Also villains are generally less populated then hero side.
But again, players are generally at the hubs (hero side I would say Atlas park/Talos, Villain side Cap Au Diable (around lvl 15+) or Inside Missions.
Another way to get into contact with people are to go to Port oakes and into marconeville, there you will find the super register building and hopefully a npc that can tell you about various channels... That you can join.

Giving room now for a Us player and or a champion player to continue.

Anyway, welcome to the game and hope you will have a good time here.

Welcome to CoX, Longhorn!

Redside is nowhere near as populated as blueside, and Champion is not as populated as Freedom and Virtue.

Regardless of that, even if you do a /search for people online, you will not find everyone because some people are on /hide.

Just because you don't see anyone doesn't mean no one else is on. They could be in instances, in other zones, or hidden. I'm not sure about the villian population on Champion, but I always see at least a few people redside on Freedom.

You should also take note that there is a holiday event happening and a lot of players are in Pocket D hanging at the Chalet or doing the Baby New Year mission which you can get from there.

Solutions to finding teams:

*Use the team search tool. Set your flag to 'looking for any'.
*Use your server's global channels. You can generally find them listed in your specific server section here on the forum.
*Find and join an active SG/VG. You can also find several of these listed in the server sections here on the forum.
*When you team with other players that you enjoy playing with, add them to global friends.
*Form your own teams.

Echoing GibsonMcCoy's comments.
Red side population < Blue side population and Champ villains is not so highly populated and most of us are in Pocket D until next Tuesday.

You might want to use your free server transfer and move over to Freedom or Virtue but still most of us are in Pocket D until next Tuesday.

And even those in Pocket D will only be there for as long as it takes to get into the next Baby New Year mission unless we are skiing.

Oh and the Pocket D Baby New Year stuff is co-operative so you can join the heroes but you cannot see them in search so you have to use broadcast there.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Don't be a wallflower and expect teams to come to you. Form your OWN teams.

Hey, here's a helpful guide!

You're just lucky I read past the word "WoW".

Make a hero and check out Virtue which is crawling with people. I call Freedom home.

Even on the big two, red side is pretty sparse, which is lame because I'd love to really get a stalker going, but I need a larger population to keep from feeling isolated.

Welcome to the game Longhorn! As a former WoW vet myself I'm going to reiterate and point out a few things...

As stated before this game is HEAVILY instanced based that's why you won't see too many people around even on a highly populated server because they're running around through instances which make up about 85% or more of the game. Also, these are not the kind of instances you'd be used to from wow. Remember seeing "LF3M for SFK" etc? You won't have that here, people will be looking for teams and more members but it's never necessary to have a full team and it's not an issue if someone randomly drops, dcs or has to logoff due to rl issues.

Another thing to keep in mind and I guess incentive to keep playing is that this is nothing like other mmos... yea you can team up and grind up to lvl 50 as fast as possible but as you will read many times and be told by anyone who's played for a while this game is about the journey, not the destination. I have a friend with 13 lvl 50s for that reason... I myself don't even have one because I actually enjoy playing the game without rushing through it whereas in WoW and most other mmos it's all about grinding to max lvl, which sucks then actually getting to play the game.

One last thing I would suggest also is check out the server forums and try to find the one that you will like the most... I play almost exclusively on Virtue which is considered the unofficialy rp server... I do not rp but playing on a team with even one person that does makes it a very unique experience as opposed to just "run through and get as much xp as possible".

Global @radubadu
Usually playing one of the following toons blueside on Virtue:
Cadler 50 WP/SS tanker
Radubadu 46 Fire/Fire blaster
Hell Runner 35 Fire/Fire brute

By the way, don't worry about having multiple characters, or having characters on multiple servers. I'm told that in most MMO's you pretty much don't want to go through the early game again... I've got a couple dozen characters at a wide variety of levels and I like playing them ALL.

A couple points on "game population":

1) There are more people on Virtue and Freedom than all the other servers combined. There may be more people on EACH of virtue and freedom than all the other servers combined, I'm not sure.

2) There are 2 or 3 times as many people blueside as redside, normally.

3) One quirk of the search command ( /search or /sea ,as mentioned): it initially shows you the people in your zone, only. If you hit enter it will show you all the people in the game on your side.

I don't have much firepower on Champion, but if you're on infinity, pinnacle [another famously low-pop server], victory or freedom I can hop on and beat stuff up with you.

What hours do you normally play?

So you think you're a hero, huh.

Also, go to the server forums, and enter the server you picked.

At the top (among several) should be a stickied thread about Global Channels for that server - these use the global chat system, and most/all severs have some active channels for teaming, etc. These channels, using the global channel system, are cross server (US and EU are separate though). Which is how some large SGs keep in touch (like www.repeat-offenders.net)

For redside/villains the population is much lower in general. It's not like the Alliance/Horde dynamic. The three best servers for playing villains are Virtue, Freedom and (used to be, not sure about right now) Infinity. i play redside on Champion several times a week, but it does tend to be pretty dead. The easiest way to team under those conditions is to join one of the server global channels.

For Champion i generally use BMT of Champion. If you send a tell to @Cobalt Azurean or post in the server forum you should be able to get an invite pretty quickly. You can also send a tell to @Nyx Nought Nothing and i can ask whichever moderator is on to send an invite if i'm online.

Perhaps more importantly, it's the week between holidays, and lots of people are out enjoying real life this week.

...I forgot what experience means.

GYAHHHH!!!!

why has no one pointed this out!?

ok, first, welcome Longhorn.
but right now, until the end of january they are offering FREE server transfers!!!!
this means, if you are unhappy with villains on champion server (kinda low pop on redside there, i know, i play there) then you dont have to start a new character (unless you want to, and i always want to, but this isn't about me ) you can just hit the "purchase server transfer button under your character on the server menu, i believe it's 6 or 7 transfers a week, then move him/her to either virtue or freedom to leverage the higher pop. virtue is the unofficial rp server, i dont rp myself, but i've found their villains side is full of people who really like playing villains., i'd give it a try. of course freedom will give you the absolute most people on of any server. but stick it out and hope you stay for awhile.

Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

screw your joke, i want "FREEM"
