What would be a fun Stalker?
Nin/Nin is pretty easy mode

Claws/SR (Coupled with the Magic Pack's Jump + Run Power and Quickness and Swift and Sprint you will never have a use for a travel power)
Spines/SR is also fun.
Electric/(Any Defense Set) is pretty fun for Stalkers too. Electric does good damage with plenty of AoE.
Defense set for secondary because they help keep you hidden for Assassin's Strikes.

Ice melee or Fire Melee would be ungodly amounts of fun on Stalkers...
....what? He asked what *would* be fun, not what *is* fun.
I have to cast my recommendation for a DM/SR Stalker. It was my first Villain 50 and I still really like playing him, which is rare for me. Also, the build was exceedingly tight... I actually have all of the Primary AND Secondary, a travel pool AND the fitness pool... getting all that stuff to mesh around the somewhat incovenient scheme at which the "required" Stalker powers open up was a bit obnoxious, but the end result was great fun.
nin/nin has my vote. As a huge ninja fan, that build really does make you feel like a ninja.
Super Reflexes will probably be even more survivable, but with Ninjitsu, you get fun toys to use too.
Either way, with Ninja Run and fitness and sprint, you probably won't need a travel power. I took Combat Jumping, but only for slotting purposes, and I can easily make a bind to shift between that and Ninja run:
/bind T "powexec_name Combat Jumping$$powexec_name Ninja Run"
My nin/nin has actually restored my faith in stalkers... but only probably because my first was a claws which was already considered the weakest set, which got nerfed even more with Eviscerate nerfed into single target only.

Going with the rest of the crew here that said Nin/Nin. Mine started a bit slow, but grew into an amazingly fun ride all the way to 50.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict
I really enjoyed Dual Blades/SR, its the only stalker that I managed to get past the teens, and went all the way to 50 with.
DB/Nin made for a fun stalker; my only 50 villain is one. Just about any good primary will be made fun with Nin, really.
The primary I would advise you forget about is Energy Melee. I understand that it was once the god amongst stalker primaries, and I ran one up to about 30 or so then wandered off due to altitis. I came back off and on after they changed the set around - mainly making some attacks take longer it seems - and it's like start-stop-go-start-wait...go-stop... In other words, not much fun at all, the attack chain doesn't seem to unfurl smoothly anymore.

I do think dual Blades would be a fun melee set to play on a Stalker...my issue with it,is the factor of hitting combos to do anything..i dont find that fun...or very helpful to a AT,thats primary goal in attacking,is hitting and running...who the hell wants to think about there attack chain and pray they dont miss once and mess it up?not me..
I enjoy Energy Melee just for the visual effect of smacking the enemy.
I wish Martial Arts were better because it could have been fun.
And I derive a great deal of fun with Broadsword bringing out a big blade and whacking and hacking.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
Just for something different, I love my DM/EA, a lot. One of the big draws was the bottomless end bar even before IOs (no stamina on this build) and despite EAs less then optimal reputation (although I don't really see people calling it outright bad anymore) I found it to be a solid combo.

Next. You're thinking it all wrong. Look at the Combos as a bonus. Not the MUST DO/HAVE TO DO, to succeed.
On my DB/WP (and on my DB/SR) Scrappers, I just run the AV combo. If I miss, I'm right off to the next attack in the chain.
That said. I HATE HATE HATE how Stalkers Combos are setup, sooo...sadly, I just can't get into Dual Blades on stalkers.
It's one thing to miss (not that big of a deal)...it's another thing entirely to use attack chains, I would never use. :/ Or chains I have to wait on FOREVER to use (Build Up in a chain...really? *sigh*)
As for which is fun...I've gotten a few into the 30's and still looking for that one combo that sticks with me. :/ Still trying.
Broadsword looks to be fun, just to go around ASing with a Rularuu Broadsword, sadly I can't get the skin at lvl 1, so I've stayed away from it. :P
Electric Melee has Lightning Rod (lots of fun there), and the BEST (imo anyways) looking Assassin Strike of all the sets.

And ice melee might be fun if you dont mind terrible dmg

I never have. Was never my play style even when Stalkers had a small amount of hit points. I was often congratulated on how I meshed well with teams in those days. With the changes I am inclined to agree with you though, there is zero need for hit and run tactics in PvE anymore with the updated Stalker changes.

I still used placate/hide (when it rehid before the next mob)...but I kept pretty hit, hit, hit.
I would also use Hide to just blow through paper missions.

I make and delete stalkers like I'm getting paid to do it, so I'll be the voice of dissent by saying I've only ever found one I could stick with:
Spines/Regen
(/Ninja would probably be nice too.)
If ST damage and passive defenses don't bore you to tears, though, you might want to take this with a grain of salt.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I paired it with Regin and its fun like freakin hell!
I've only ever done properly with Ninja Blade/Regen. Regeneration is an interesting set, and it can at times be very tough, but it's extremely vulnerable. That's where Ninja Blade comes in. Divine Avalanche, with three defense slots. With standard one-recharge you can easily double-stack it without trying as part of a short chain. Single, it's a little extra survivability, but doubled, it's the softcap. That extra defense is crucial since it gives you some breathing room to use your regen powers, and when you already have shenanigans like Dull Pain plus Instant Healing it lets you stand up to Elite Bosses.

I've only gotten one stalker to 50 spines/nin he was a blast to play and this thread kinda makes me wanna roll up another maybe broadsword.
What would be a fun stalker to play?
Without looking for numbers,or what IOs do what to what power sets, and not worrying about whats the best or the worste build, what build would you all on the forums say would be a fun one to play?just for S&Gs?
