As of now, I have two characters who are very much likely to skirt the gray areas of morality. One is a character that I've already described in his bio as a vigilante, so vigilante he will become. The other is a villain who believes that he is heroic in his actions despite many of the appalling things he's done, thus to help rationalize himself he'll be becoming a rogue.

Otherwise, I have no characters I expect to make a complete switch with. Yet....

As far as my villains go, RP reasons. Many will stay villains. Some will go renegade to spy on Paragon. Most of my new villains will run through Pretoria instead of the Rogue Isles.

I do have a couple heroes that might go Vigilante, but unlikely to go full villain. Granted the way pretoria runs that could change. Pretoria appears to turn Good and Evil on its ear. The Resistance is good but breaks the law, The Pretoria Regime is the law, but wicked.

Switching should work well for me as I have a handful of toons that I stalled out on around the high 30s to low 40s. That said, I have to admit that my conception of the character strongly influences my choice - how do I see them? Are they 100% worthy of that Heart Of Darkness badge? Are they evil to the core or is there some room for redemption? Are they tempted to do hateful things normal society would shun them for or will they go out of their way to help someone?

I'll be taking one of my bots MMs to Paragon City just cuz. It'll be hard to know which one as they're both pretty eveil, but I'll figure something out. I'll probably go looking for a stalker as well for the same reason, although I'm not sure off the top of my head who I have that might go - my namesake here certainly won't; maybe my panda assassin that I made for the SG that only runs MA arcs (but that sort of defeats the purpose, huh? )

Other than that, I don't think I have anyone blueside that I wish to take red. I rarely play blueside (and have few hero toons whatsoever); something about either the ATs or the content feels very lifeless to me compared to red. Then again, I'm looking forward to dual pistols, so I might make a Corr and take it blueside.

EDIT: I actually thought of a villain that would be worthwhile taking blueside - Operative SNAFUBAR, my Widow who's strongly rebeling against Arachnos through cyber terrorism... well, ok, she hacked Lord Recluse's blog and sent him a RickRoll. She claims. Anyways, I forget - can VEATs go good or HEATs go bad?

All of my old heroes/villains will stay where they are providing that Redside doesn't become a ghost town. I might switch some of my new toons over to each side depending on how the process works.

Most of my villians are undercover heroes therefore some will move to rogue but they will not become a full hero. I have at least one that will become a full hero.

Yes. They just cannot be Praetorians... or so the story goes.

Zube is going over for the badges. The juicy, luscious, badges... the shiny red badges... the jolly, candy-like badges...

*tiltheadbackanddrool*

That’s the real reason. That and because red-side content has *always* bored me to tears. Perhaps running through it with my main character will make a difference. But the *STORY* reason will be that he’s going under cover. I intend to do all the arcs, but I will drop all the missions that have me doing something particularly nasty. This will be my in-my-own-mind roleplaying way of telling myself that Zube found a way to thwart the evil contact’s plans without blowing his cover as a double agent.

I also have an alt blaster, Moon-Rabbit, who has never really had the proper primary-secondary to use as a hero. She’s the Easter Bunny and she’s lived on the Moon for 4000 years or so (really), so she has cool “Moon Powers.” What would cool Moon Powers be? Well, gravity and radiation would work, but I already have an awesome concept for that, my ‘troller Schrodinger’s Cat. So I want ice and radiation, but blasters have no rad secondary. But *corruptors* do.

So I’m going to re-roll her in Praetoria as a corruptor and bring her blue-side ASAP.

This, to me, is the real power of GR. The ability to bring an AT to the other side for concept reasons.

most of the pvpers will go red, at least temporarily.

the time to accolade a toon redside is still dramatically lower than the time it takes to do it blueside (with the exception of geas and portal jockey on a good AV team). getting invader takes 20 minutes per TF equivalent badge when you have a lowbie in range. and i'd rather kill 200 marcone bosses than hunt for unveiler (takes 30-40 minutes if you have a farm mish).

I don't think that any of my existing characters will switch. I'll probably make new ones who are rogues or vigilantes with the idea of side switching.

Few of my characters are morally grey. I find that a lack of commitment to one side or another makes it hard for me to play the character. I really couldn't play villains much, until I hit on a 'cold-blooded mercenary' concept. Most villain motivations don't make a lot of sense to me. Revenge would work, but for that I need an arch-enemy. World domination always bugged me. If you are powerful enough to conquer the world, what do you need the world for? A trophy I guess.

I have a ninja/trick arrow mastermind, who I described as being brainwashed into being evil, who would be perfect for side switching. However I already created a Trick Arrow/Archery defender and an Archery/Devices blaster to be reformed versions of that mastermind. I couldn't decide which one of the two to play, then lost interest in the whole project due to the overly maudlin background story. Haven't played any of these in over a year, aside from logging in to move them from one day job location to another for the badges.

More fun for me to make someone new for the new content anyway. I love an excuse to start over.

Hi:

All of my 15 level 50 Villains will go blue, so I can use the cheaper prices of recipes and salvage to IO Set Slot them, also Blue side TFs are better at rewarding merits for the effort than red side, and I need the Merits to buy the rare recipies such as Numina that I will be needing. Once my Villains have been fully IO set slotted, they will return to their villanous ways.

Hugs

Now if they ever give Khelds customization it will be REALLY good.

1. If it's possible, get the easier hero accolades on my villains, and vice versa. Force of Nature is still retardedly grindy and I'd rather spend the time getting the badges for Geas.

2. Bring a VEAT heroside to mess with all the Stalkers in Sirens and RV.

For my badgers - the hope to add to the collection.

For my brute - he is a former side kick fallen from grace and has been searching for a way to prove himself. This has been part of his bio for four years now and GR will be a perfect way to flesh that out.

Depends on what you mean by effort. SF/TF merit rewards are determined solely by average completion time. The TF's that reward lots and lots of merits also take several hours to complete. The major advantage TF's have is that there are more to choose from, and they generally take longer to finish than SF's, so you have more TF's you can theoretically do in a day, and each gives more rewards. Although the longer time required makes having more TF's to do somewhat irrelevant, except that you have a wider variety to choose from when deciding to do a TF. However, unless you have an unusual definition of the word 'effort', TF's and SF's generally require the same amount of effort for the reward.

You can do 2 SF's in 3 hours and get approximately the same rewards as doing 1 TF in 3 hours. Now if you're doing both with PuGs, then i can see the SF's as requiring more effort since you have to form a team twice. If you set up a team for doing the 2 SF's back to back in advance, then it's about the same amount of effort.

Personally, i prefer running SF's on weekdays since i have less time to play during the week. On weekends i can usually set aside at least half a day to play when i do play, so some TF's are more appealing then.

That reminds me, i should see about setting up a Bane squad sometime. My Huntsman build VEAT (Bane secondary, mostly rifle primary) will probably be going heroside when GR comes out.

I only have one character in mind for the big switcheroo right now. Her name is Sturmwolke (German for Stormcloud), an Elec/SR brute. Her reason for going rogue is the fact that the gang she used to run with are now either all dead or in prison, and she has come to see that the life she leads now is doomed. She is frightened by the prospect of either dying or going to prison for the rest of her life without having contributed a single thing memorable to the world, so she "wakes up" and decides to turn her life around.

Is it because of player base/ markets/ better TF/SF’s or something else? Cheers to all who give their reasons.
Sadly, I don't have any toons I prefer to switch, and as of this moment I
don't have any plans to even purchase the upgrade.

I've not seen any compelling (or even interesting) reasons for GR yet, insofar
as my playstyle is concerned, so I'm definitely in the "wait and see" camp.

I think I'll be switching all of my villains to vigilantes or heroes. I love villain ATs, but many red-side PUGs on Virtue are an exercise in frustration. So many people are just half there, there's a lot of sudden AFKs with no warning, and a lot of people treat teaming like soloing but with more people. I could go on and on, but I'll just say that on average blue-side PUGs have a better team mentality and are a lot more enjoyable. Hopefully that won't all change.

...and yes, and I just got away from a frustrating PUG.

I think my Main Hero is going to fall to villains due to a mind control plot by her arch nemesis (her evil counterpart from an alternate timeline).

She'll probably end up going back blue eventually (once she breaks free)

I'd be quite wary of assuming that GR will allow such a fundamentally game changing mechanism "just like that". We know very well that what Positron says in RL and what actually happens, whilst not being strictly inaccurate, are often very different interpretations of expectation.

But I will probably create new characters first to investigate what new goodies we have and then use some existing toons to maybe explore. Certainly Scarlet and a couple of others will NOT switch sides. The caveat of course is that's all based on what I understand thus far. It may be there are game reasons which will direct her in a certain path, but I would resist anything that takes her towards anything close to villainous.

I don't think anyone is assuming that the switch will be made "just like that". I'm expecting a long series of arcs and hoops I'll have to jump my character through. Moving to another side was referred to as a process, not a lightswitch.

Yeah, I'll echo SunGryphon's comments -- and Posi specifically has said it will take a significant effort to switch factions.

Nowhere has anyone indicated it's as easy as "just like that" to my knowledge.

I'm with the OP on this one. I love the way Rogue Isles is set up. If anything I'll bring my heroes over to the villain side. If I had started playing COH prior to COV release I probably would have quit out of frustration. COV was done after the fact so I can understand why it seems easier to play and is more streamlined and less frustrating to get around in. Perhaps its just the fact I unwittingly chose a very strong AT to play, where all others seem to pale in comparison; or maybe i just suck at squishy toons.

I've tried my hand at various hero side toons and so far only my Tanker has appealed to me. Every other AT I've tried Hero side I ended up scrapping because in large groups of mobs they all ended up in a faceplant.
