I honestly didn't think Virtue TFs was moderated at all.
I remember being on a TF once and someone was just handing out ops left and right with the reasoning being it's a "public" channel. Ever wonder why a third of the members are moderators?
I think I jumped the gun with this post though. I think I've just logged on during some annoying topics the past few days. I got to play for awhile this morning and it wasn't bad at all. -
I always considered VU2009 to be the social + teaming channel, while Virtue TFs was more of a short and to the point channel. The last couple of months Virtue TFs (and to a lesser extent Virtue LFG) has been slowly becoming more and more VUish. I'm guessing it has to do with VU2009 reaching max capacity, even though there's a new VU2010 now.
I was totally fine with the sporadic conversation now and then, but now it's to the point that it's honestly just another Virtue United channel. Perhaps I'm in the extreme minority, but I liked having the option between social + teaming and just teaming. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to read about various people's opinion on WoW or other various topics.
So... does anyone else feel this way? If I'm totally alone I can just suck it up I guess, but I am sort of curious what other people think. -

Quote:Thanks again for parking him there. I got Gold on my lower alts thanks to you.So, I've been parking a Kin (Speed Skater on Virtue) on my second account atop the Advanced Slope and put IR on auto-cast. Slotted for recharge, it goes off about every 40 seconds.
No fancy second build needed! Just Sprint+Ninja Run+IR did the trick for me.
Oh, another tip for lowbies is grouping with a 50 so you're SKed to 49. It's not necessarily needed, but it can help shave off a second or two. Sometimes that's all that's needed. -
Thanks for the replies.
I might drop the Fighting pool and aim for 33ish positional Defense instead, that way I could pick up TT:Assault and another patron AoE. That seems like it would be a decent compromise between team utility and survivability. My Arch/Kin Corr is set up similarly (33 S/L/Ranged) and he does okay with a good supply of Lucks. I haven't even tried to make a build yet for my Crab though, so maybe I'll even be able to soft-cap something.
-
I am considering skipping TT:Assault on my Crab. I know they stack well with other damage buffs, but it's hard for me to get excited about +15% damage after playing a Kineticist. Here is what I would like to know: am I going to be branded a noob if I skip this? The only team toggles I planned on taking are TT: Maneuvers, normal Maneuvers, and TT: Leadership. I sort of wanted to fit in Fighting and some patron powers. I can likely drop a patron power if another toggle would be important for teaming though.

This feature looked awesome to me as well. However, some past experiences with a similar system in WoW kind of makes me hesitant about wanting to see this in CoX. When Blizzard added cross-server battlegrounds, it abolished all sense of server community from the BGs. It went from friendly server rivalry and camaraderie to an endless stream of different faces. Now, maybe it won't have such an impact in CoX due to its smaller playerbase, but I think I'd rather take it slow and start off with an improved LFG/LFM interface first.

I actually like Taunt for the -range debuff on it. Despite all the negativity that the power gets, I find it to be kind of useful. It wouldn't hurt to try it out at least if you have room for it.

My first thought is maybe shorthand for "merci."
...which I guess wouldn't make much sense, but that's all I've got. -
If it's just a choice between ElM and FM, I'd say ElM has greater AoE damage potential, but FM is more consistent. You have to keep in mind that ElM AoEs have pretty small coverage outside of Lightning Rod, and they all don't hit for full damage on secondary targets. I personally would go FM with WP, but that's just me. I find FM a bit lighter on the power choices, so it'd be easier for me to fit in things like Soul powers.

I think I'll be switching all of my villains to vigilantes or heroes. I love villain ATs, but many red-side PUGs on Virtue are an exercise in frustration. So many people are just half there, there's a lot of sudden AFKs with no warning, and a lot of people treat teaming like soloing but with more people. I could go on and on, but I'll just say that on average blue-side PUGs have a better team mentality and are a lot more enjoyable. Hopefully that won't all change.
...and yes, and I just got away from a frustrating PUG. -
The search term is too short, so it won't return any hits. A limitation like that kind of sucks for MMORPGs where acronyms are plentiful.

Hmmm, I didn't think anything could be worse than my Brute's current taunt sound, but a Tarzan yell would definitely top it. Thankfully he doesn't have this bug.
I didn't think of changing it though. Time to ponder a good replacement!

I didn't see any kind of message when I tried adding/removing myself from my other account. Am I missing something?

Using /getglobalname without the underscores will work fine as well. I'm not sure why it wasn't working when you tried it.
-
The same thing happened to me when I was solo. You have to be on a team that does enough damage to get the badge. Not sure if that's what happened to you, but I thought I'd add that to the discussion. I was kind of curious if badge credit would work a bit differently for a zoned GM encounter.

I don't really get where the whole "inviting themselves" thing comes from. There's a difference between demanding an invite and asking if a team is full/LFM.
Before work this morning, I was on a smallish team that tried to fill the group but couldn't. We ended up going into the mission anyway. A team member mentioned that they got a tell from someone asking to join, and then I got the same tell shortly after. I guess I made the mistake of saying that they sent me a tell as well, because our leader decided not to invite since they were "bugging people." I didn't get what the big deal was. I mean, I bet you anything nobody sent a reply back so the person sending tells had no feedback to work with. Plus, it was... 5am, and it was a mid-30s alt sending tells to people in the low 40s. Sometimes I think people need to chill the **** out. -
A Wacom "Cintiq" tablet is what you're looking for. Wait until you see the prices though.
Not sure if there's cheaper alternatives, so I'd suggest asking the screenshot/art forum as well.

I've been leveling a Dark/Cold up, and I found it absolutely terrible to solo from 1-26. I almost gave up on the alt. It got a tiny bit better after 26 with Life Drain. I did some frankenslotting at 32 and soloability improved quite a bit. Once I got to 35, Sleet made things a lot easier. That's when I really started to like the combo, and was the major turning point from pretty sucky to quite good. After Sleet you can look forward to Heat Loss and PPPs, which will be nice for soloing as well. So yeah, Dark/Cold is viable for soloing, but it's nothing special until 35+.
-
I'm not really looking for orange numbers though, that's the thing.
I think I'm just finding that extra survivability becomes superfluous a lot quicker than offensive buffs/debuffs do. I will say this though, it's very nice to have a 95% hit rate against +3s/4s. I can't help but think how nice it would be to have Rad toggles on top of that, or FS.
I am going to continue on though. I think I need to get to harder content to see how it plays out. It's pretty easy to make most factions a joke in the high twenties/low thirties. -
Fire, Earth, or Plant IMO.
Have you considered going with a Controller, or are you dead set on a Defender? The -KB available to Controllers opens up some nice combos with Storm Summoning, as does Fissure or a primary AoE stun.
My Defender choice would probably be Dark. I have a Dark/Cold Corrupter, and TT+Sleet/Ice Slick is pretty nice. Life Drain is useful as well, and it could be useful if you go Darkness Mastery for Thunder Clap + Oppressive Gloom. -
If I find myself on a low-damage team, I feel like such a chump with my abysmal damage contribution. The control is great, and being able to spot heal is nice, but I'm not digging how little force multiplication the combo provides.
I guess my question is, should I bother? I'm on the fence between trying to stick it out or try Earth/Kin or Ill/Emp. I'm not sure if everything will just fall into place later on like my Dark/Cold Corruptor, or if Earth/Emp is just too heavy on defensive support. -
Pretty much any combo should have something to do the majority of the time, even FF Defenders. Relaxing to me is not having to keep track of buffs. IMO, Dark Miasma is probably the support set that I find the least stressful. You don't have to worry about buffing every four minutes or hitting as many people as you can with PBAE buffs. You just debuff the stuffing out of mobs and be generally awesome. You even get a pet later on to make your job easier. Mind you, there's always something to do, but it doesn't feel monotonous to me like buffing sets do. I think it depends on what you feel is "relaxing" in a video game.

Quote:While I am not for the whole global thing, you should keep in mind that "new" characters could be rerolls or a name that has been camped for a long time. On Virtue it's even pretty common to trade camped names. Not to mention some of those names could have been using the i = l trick, which I can imagine not everyone wants to use. Your name will look pretty lame if someone is using a different font.I did this this afternoon. Planted myself under Atlas, and spent 120 seconds jotting down all the names I spotted on new alts.
Came up with this list:
...
If a few minutes watching the new names popping in doesn't help you realize that there are good names left, I guess I can't help you.
I think the perceived availability of names is related to what a person considers to be a good name. There's quite a few examples of names across this thread that I wouldn't personally use. Names do seem scarce to me on Virtue, but I'm not a fan of using humorous puns. I can still come up with something that I like though, so it's not impossible. I do think a name scrub wouldn't hurt though. -
Don't worry about my name request anymore. I think I'll, you know, look stuff up.
Edit: Now that I'm less annoyed, I'd like to thank people for taking the time to research and check the availability of names. I've done a lot of this myself, and it's interesting what you can learn.
