Lord of Winter badge: A guide of sorts
1) Get on or form a 8 man team and start opening presents.( at least this is how a normal winter lord spawned for us in years past)
|
plus not 100% sure just yet it seem to be a ramdom spawn of the winter lord once the certain amount of present is been collected from a ramdon present location
hrm...I don't remember getting a badge for Lord of Winter, though I got the inf, merits and candy canes
i heard you need to open like a hunder ish present per zone so this can be do solo i think now to get winter lord

Early this morning, I think I was perhaps one of the few heroes in Talos opening presents (I logged on right after maintenance), so search showed only 3 heroes present. I got the WL to spawn after about 20 presents or so. I'm sure the number of presents isn't 100.

The same thing happened to me when I was solo. You have to be on a team that does enough damage to get the badge. Not sure if that's what happened to you, but I thought I'd add that to the discussion. I was kind of curious if badge credit would work a bit differently for a zoned GM encounter.

Other than the Festive badge (for logging in), and the Lady/Lord of Winter (for defeating the Lord of Winter), are there any other new badges available in this event?
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.
1387 badges, and counting

Getting canes and merits does not necessarily mean Badge credit as well. It's been shown many times with several GMs that you can earn merits without inflicting enough damage to get the badge. The "10%" rule is just a standard people use to ensure badge credit, but the actual value may be less than that.
|
I am sure I didn't do 10% of the damage when I got the badge yesterday, there were at least 2 other teams and a few other people - I was just there to check out the event. I was surprised to get any rewards at all really.
I believe the Event is still running at the moment.

There are only the two new badges, although you can purchase a new snowflake emote from the Candy Keeper.

Yes, I too saw the new snowflake emote being sold which, of course, my "completionist" toon will be acquiring.

No you just have to tag at least the lord and maybe his guardians. I´m pretty sure i didnt do 10% of the damage and i got canes and merits on 2 separate runs and i was solo.

Also, regarding the percentage, it is 10%. Issue 7 patch notes:
Defeat Badges now require that you or your team do 10% or more damage to the entity to receive credit for the badge. (The former system required that you deal 25% or more damage to get credit). |

This. The same standards do NOT applly for badges and 'other rewards'. I've arrived late to a GM fight, got ONE hit in, and got my merits. No badge though.
Also, regarding the percentage, it is 10%. Issue 7 patch notes: I will point out, it is possible that this is not a 'standard' defeat badge. For example, the badge for defeating Lusca is granted to everyone in the area, even if they have done ZERO damage. |

10 merits for 10 minutes of work if teams are well coordinated and use RF2009 global channel on freedom. 2 merits for killing the winter lord spawn in the cities (about 1 minute to do). 3 minutes waiting for special gift timer. 5 minutes max to kill lord winter and the guardians. That's a merit a minute. I think that tops out an speed ITF or certainly challenges it. The thing is there is no diminishing returns on the merit awards. My buddy made about 300 merits yesterday.
I sold candy canes early on, although I wonder if the value would have dropped as the market must be saturated by now. Made some KB IO's with the merits, and sold em fairly cheap actually (10 mil/io). I think I made about 150 million influence in about an hour in the end. For a non marketeer and non-farmer, it was a good day.

I'll be quick as I can here and feel free to add to this in case I missed something because I normally type in haste.
The 2009 has a new badge introduced called Lord of Winter. It appears using multiple teams is the way to go to get this badge.
1) Get on or form a 8 man team and start opening presents.( at least this is how a normal winter lord spawned for us in years past)
2) Beat the Winter Lord and he will leave a huge gift in his wake ( that has a timer on it before you can click it)
3) When you click on the gift ( which is 8 feet tall and clearly unlike other winter gifts lying about) you will get zoned into the Lord of Winter Realm map
4) The Lord of Winter isnt hard to find but I suggest pulling him than dealing with the winter baddies around him. I should mention he has 226175 hit points and thats why I suggest multiple teams.
5) When fighting LoW you'll find that he does go "Intangible" at every 25% health increment and that means you'll have to beat a Winter Guardian to attack him again . So if you cant hit and he goes intangible scan around for another GM.
I did this on the quick so if I missed something gimme a break and I'll check back to see what other players have picked up. Also I know coh Titan had a page on this but I couldn't find it so if someone does see it please post a link, take care all and happy badging
