Dark / Cold Viable for Solo PvE?

Is a Dark Blast / Cold Domination Corruptor viable for solo PvE? I currently have a Force Field / Dark Blast Defender, and it's an extremely slow uphill battle playing him solo, even at the new -1 level difficulty setting. :\ I keep being told how much better Cold Domination is than Force Field, so I want to try one, but not if it's going to play like my bubbler.

Hey CL

Cold will not play like your bubbler, I can guarantee that. Dark/Cold is a superb combo, and will solo quite well!

Also, it seems like you want something that can solo really fast. You might consider ice or fire as a primary. Both have excellent synergy with cold, have excellent damage, and ice in particular will solo very well.

ice/cold and fire/cold corruptors are two of the most powerful combos in the game in my opinion.

Just echoing what Kahlan has said, a cold corr will be nothing like your ff/dark defender. Will be much better at soloing, though it is worth noting that while Gloom, TT and NF being pure DoT is awesome for Scourge, Dark Blast is definitely one of the lower damage Corr primaries.

Ice and Fire are higher damage primaries, with fire being higher damage (especially with AoE) but bringing no mitigation to the table. At lower levels Ice or Dark might make things smoother because Cold Dom only really starts to shine solo at higher levels (Sleet and Heat Loss). Now, this isn't make-or-break, just something to consider.

Other than that, I've got a Cold Dom guide if you want to take a look, link is in my sig.

I've been leveling a Dark/Cold up, and I found it absolutely terrible to solo from 1-26. I almost gave up on the alt. It got a tiny bit better after 26 with Life Drain. I did some frankenslotting at 32 and soloability improved quite a bit. Once I got to 35, Sleet made things a lot easier. That's when I really started to like the combo, and was the major turning point from pretty sucky to quite good. After Sleet you can look forward to Heat Loss and PPPs, which will be nice for soloing as well. So yeah, Dark/Cold is viable for soloing, but it's nothing special until 35+.

Also, don't forget you have dual builds. Set up a solo build when you can, skipping things like the shields, and go a little more offense-heavy. When you team, switch over to the teaming build. (I do the same thing with my Dark/Therm - at 34, I have exactly one power from my secondary in my solo build. >.< Opens up a LOT of power choices!)

Obviously with cold there are going to be fewer skippable powers on that solo build - but there are still a few (two shields and Frostwork.)

This. Dark/Cold corruptors (I have one) are mediocre PvE soloists, excellent team support for PvE, and truly beastly in 1v1 PvP.

This is exactly my impression of the combo. Sleet is game changing for the build, but comes late at level 35. Dark blast damage is *not* going to wow you.

It's a powerful combination, but it matures late.

Agreed, it's REAL hard for my low teen level Dark/Ice Corruptor to fight.
