I've occasionaly read on this forum that the command to see a players global name is /get_global_name and Paragon wiki confirms this.

However i've just tried this out for myself, and all I get is a message saying the command is not recognised.

Was this command removed? Is it broken? Or am I just doing somthing fundementally wrong with it?

/get_global_name [player's local name] (or /get_global_name $target)
/get_local_name [player's global name]

Happy stalking!

I just left click (the character's name in chat) or right click (on the character) and choose Add Note. That shows the global name.

Using /getglobalname without the underscores will work fine as well. I'm not sure why it wasn't working when you tried it.

Definitely take out the underscores, they are not needed and just add confusion. The game engine reads /get_global_name the same as it reads /getglobalname or /g_e_t_glob_aln_a_me. It doesn't care, the underscores are just for us to read it easier.

He probably just typed the command without following it with a name (or $target) after it.

Without a target, it would have given him an error saying the command is not recognized.

"/get_local_name" and other commands will give you an error saying it's incorrect usage, but that one doesn't for some reason.

If you are left clicking on the name in chat, you can skip "Add/Edit Note" and go right to "Get Local/Global Name".

yeah I wasn't including $target. I would have tried it myself if it wasn't for the fact I got the command not recognised message, usually when you dont include a target it tells you! ("string requires 1 arg you gave 0" etc.)

*shrug*

If you can search for their name, you can right click their name in the Team Search window for the Add Note. Of course, this only works for same faction.

Also, if they show up in a /whoall you can cut & paste that name
(or simply type it now that you see it) into the /getglobalname
command to find their global.

I do that all the time in Zone PvP to see who I'm dealing with, which
is pretty handy for spotting folks that run a lot of different alts.
