With Oriental women, yeah!

Assuming the next Pack IS Mutant-themed, what would you like to see?

I have a feeling it may be costume pieces that were normally merged with other areas, being given their own area so we can put more on each character, ie tails being removed from belts and being given their own Tails category/option. Thereby allowing you to have a belt and a tail. Same possibly for horns and whatnot.

Just one guess based on some comments I've seen a dev or two make.

But personally, besides more costume pieces, I'd love having more limb options (maybe spider legs on your back as just a normal option for any character) and then of course I'd love to have another powers like some of the other packs have given.

As for a power, I am thinking Mutation:

It works like Mystic Fortune, with a random boost given, but is a much smaller boost, and affects self only.

Possibly lasting 20 minutes, but with a 2 hour cool down.

Alternately, it can last 1 minute with a 10 or 20 minute cool down.

Mutant Power Booster:

Costume Parts:

Tails that actually move, and are not a belt.
More Animal Parts, especially heads, legs and feet.
More optional parts on animal Heads (esp, horns on the lizard head)

Additional Powers:

Costume Change (Metamorphisis): Become intangable for 15 seconds, during during change and return as new costume. regain some health and energy in process.

New Travel Skill: Hop, same speed as sprint but movement is done via hopping and effected by hurdles jump speed.

Funny, I could have sworn (may be wrong) that not long ago they were looking for (Had a job opening) for an animator that specialized in non-bipedal movement. So, I would love to see a power that let us run on all fours in this pack. Sure that would be hard, and weird looking for some characters.

Probably for stuff like Demon Summoning. Though it would be nice if we got some player-related animations too.

Backstory wise, Rikti are very, very mutant

Just check out their Lost buddies

I would say that backstory wise they are science not mutant. First off the mutant origin implies that the person is different from the norm for their species and while they differ from humans the entire species is different in the same way. Secondly the Rikti mutations were deliberately induced by an alien species rather than being random mutations in the genetic code. Similarly the mutations exhibited by the Lost are deliberately induced using a mutagen rather than being part of their original genetic code.

That's still massively mutation-based

Right, but for origin you have to consider the cause of the mutation. If you were born with it then it's mutant origin. If it was deliberately or accidentally induced after your birth then it's something else (normally Science or Magic). Now admittedly the Rikti are born with it but the original mutation was introduced into their species genome using science.

Doesn't the Origin description for Mutation cover people who mutate after they're born?

Well, mutate with no explained magical cause or scientific experimentation.

Here's the description:
Quote:
You were born with abilities which set you apart from the rest of humankind. Your powers manifested at birth, puberty, or possibly adulthood. Mutants are often viewed with awe and fear by those who don't understand them. This origin will give you access to Mutagen. This item has a very short range and deals minor Energy damage, as well as lowering the damage the affected target deals out.
So it covers your powers manifesting after birth, but you were still born with the genes for them.

Hope that'd doesn't turn into another fad like City Of Neo (when trenchcoats came out).

...otherwise my morning commute is going to look like this....

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

I'd just like to say, if a Mutant super booster pack ever includes weasel/ferret/mongoose animalistic parts, I totally call dibs on making a Claws/Willpower Scrapper called Rikti Tikki Tavi.

I haven't gone through the whole thread to see what might have been said about this. But ...

While I don't necessarily agree with the way origins have been laid out in the game (kinda confused about differences between Natural and Tech, Tech and Science, Science and Mutant, Mutant and Natural, Science and Natural, Natural and Magic, Mutant and Magic, ...) I think the basic distinction between Natural and Tech is that Tech items are powered and/or produced as the result of a high-tech process.

Natural items like swords and bows depend upon the user's strength and dexterity to be effective. Guns and flamethrowers and such that are really just modern versions of Middle Ages technology could also be considered as Natural.

A Tech origin would involve a dependence upon things that have computer circuitry, energy effects, and high-tech performance-enhancing drugs that must be taken repeatedly for effect.

But the lines are blurry, especially if you consider Science and Magic as additional explanations for powered items.

This is pretty much deliberate. If you look at how the dual-origin enhancements at setup the two origins that an enhancement works on always have a rather thin dividing line, in fact the list of distinctions that confuse you is almost the same as the list of dual origin enhancement types .

To me, the distinction between Natural and Technology origins is the availablility of the technology.

If the technology is common, available to anyone (within reason), or generally accepted, then it fits in just fine with Natural. Even a high-tech gun like the Assault Rifle would be Natural if you consider it to be standard issue for military of the time. This is how a Natural hero can have teleportation abilities. While not in the hands of everyone, teleporters are routinely used by hospitals, police drones, and various other agencies.

If the tech is one-of-a-kind, customized, or otherwise unusual then it would be Technology origin. A guy who builds a freeze ray device and straps it to his arms is a Tech origin. A Crey scientist who is issued a freeze ray is Natural.

That's a good point.

One other aspect of this always comes to mind for me, though it doesn't really have much of a role in this game.

To me the real point of declaring an origin is to determine what type of milieu or what type of foes you see your character existing in / fighting with.

For example, normally a Natural hero like Tarzan, Shang Chi, or possibly Daredevil or Batman would fight against foes who are also of Natural origin.

Science heroes like Superman and the Fantastic Four fight primarily against foes of science origin.

It's a feature I'd like to see explored in game content. It may have even been part of the original plan for CoH, as you can see with the various origin based contacts (MAGI, ELITE, etc.), but a concept that was dropped almost immediately, probably due to a desire to limit content creation.
