So now I am all wondering, What could be in Issue 17?

Issue 16 sure was a beauty and all this information about Going Rogue sounds spiffy and all.
But now we know the Target time for GR...
Which must mean *dun dun dun duuuun* Issue 17 will be before GR.

So what in the world is going to be in it?

Since NCSoft took over they have been doing nothing but giving us everything we ever asked for. So what else is on that list?

I for one would love to see CROSS SERVER PVP. But, is the "Tech" for that even possible? Is the City Vault going to come to fruition? Will we be bombarded with new costume pieces? More color choices? New places to put those costumes? Moon Zone? Will lolVillains finally get a new zone?

Do you have speculation?

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
brown paper packages tied up with strings,
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels,
door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles,
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings,
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
silver white winters that melt into springs...

...these are a few of my favorite things.

Funny, I had been considering this earlier, for me, I think the up coming issues will probably be somewhat small things like new contacts and story arcs across the level ranges to hint at Going Rogue and maybe new costume pieces, and possibly some proliferation, though I'm having trouble seeing the Devs with anything major like slipping in a new power set or a zone for us.

Also, I would like to state that while I am always happy with booster packs, the upcoming natural origin one apparently being ninja themed miffs me a little because we already have quite a few ninja options at our disposal and there are other manner of natural themed costume pieces that need consideration, like barbarian and medieval heroes, Chinese can Korean themed, or even things like SWAT and Spec Ops gear. And I'm a HUGE weaboo here, so it should tell you something.

More content coming for Cimerora about the mentioned "coming storm"

Is there any reason to suspect issue 17 will be before instead of part of GR?

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

Well. They have been putting Issues out at a pretty steady pace now for awhile.
Issue 16 has been out for alittle while.

I just dont think we will be waiting 6 months for the next expansion :\

I hope Issue 17 involves content about the Coming Storm as Lady suggested.

It would be cool if you are right because I want that log out ability.

I think I remember people saying that it was said at HeroCon that there aren't currently any plans for an issue before Going Rogue. But I think they also said that if they can gather enough niceness, they may release an issue 16.5 of sorts before Going Rogue launches.

Also, not sure, but I think someone said that it was mentioned that they may give us the graphics update before Going Rogue comes along. -Shrugs-

The only problem I see is that GR is supposed to be a paid expansion where as Issues are supposed to be free. I suppose they can do the same thing as they did when CoV came out but I would hope that there is at the very least a small Issue before GR. Issue 16 came out in September and with GR slated for 2nd Qtr '10, that would mean close to 7 or more months without an update, but lots of competition.

As far as what I hope for I17; I'm hoping Castle will get around to Defenders by then to give them an improvement at or before GR.

Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

This is the reported facts from HeroCon: the combined info from two players who talked to Brian Clayton about it.

**IF** there's an Issue between now and GR, **reasonable** things to expect (and not pie-in-the-sky wishlist items, such as a Cross PvP Server <rolls eyes>) would be:

  • Ultra Graphics mode
  • Mercedes Lacky and Troy Hickman Architect Entertainment guest author arcs
  • Upcoming feature: You do not have to log out to switch character
  • Upcoming feature: Enemies/Objectives will be marked on the mission map when 90% of the enemies/objectives have been defeated/found
  • Upcoming feature: Enhancement prices will be standardized across all vendors/contacts
  • Upcoming feature: Electricity Control for Controllers (And possibly Dominatiors)
  • Upcoming feature: You will be able to trade inspirations between factions
  • Fixes for some longstanding bugs (we'll get to see the effects of having a new Bug Czarbiter Kim)
  • More GR leaks
  • Maybe a few new arcs hinting more at the Coming Storm or preludes setting the stage for Going Rogue
  • Maybe some of the GR updates to the Praetorians will spill into the classic arcs or the MA
  • Dr. Aeon should have ready some more Dev Choice arcs, new or re-introduced mission maps, and maybe even a new mission-making feature

I say i17 will introduce the Cathedral of Pain and Raids back, since we were told they were coming back and it'd be unfair to exclude that from some of the player base.
-The QoL changes with GR will probably be there too.
-Maybe the new powersets.

I can't think of anymore QoL features we might need other than what was announced at HeroCon, but if I had to guess the features for next issue, I'd probably say that they'll consist of a few more contacts and storyarc. Mainly in Cimerora.

And then maybe the people who complain about lack of content will finally shut up......

I honestly think we'll see SOME of Zombie's list and NOT ANY new story content till GR comes out. There is so much work being done on GR I just can't see them having the time to do anything else major for now.

Since GR looks to be all Praetoria all the time (which I am totally cool with, even though it oddly stops at level 20, apparently), I'm hoping that I17 will have two major new zones: the space station and moon. Along with attendant powers, like ray guns, as well as costumes, like spacesuits, both modern and retro.

And I want to actually *be* on the moon, as in outdoors, with 1/6th gravity (non-Suppression Super Jump all the time!). It would also be cool to have a moonbase, of course, but having *just* a moonbase would be lame, because then it'd be like being inside any generic tech map in Paragon. That would be dullsville, Daddy-O. So we definitely need both moonbase and outdoors on the moon's surface.

Issue 17 = a good content issue or one helllll of a tease into future issues, theres only so much QOL a player can take before he needs something new to play it on

If we don't get the two zones of space station and moon+moonbase, at the least I'd like to see the addition of three or four new tilesets for maps. With none of them being caves, please.

Seconded! Most of it's not that hard to simulate, either:

1/6th gravity = 600% jump bonus to all characters. Falling speed and damage reduced to 12% of normal. (If we're lucky, there's a "gravity" value in the game mechanics that could be altered for just the Moon zone.)

Vacuum = continuous damage to characters that quickly kills "unprotected" ones. Of course, if your character is tough enough, can heal fast enough, or just has the right power(s), they can walk around in vacuum without protection. But even Superman wears a spacesuit nowadays.

While full vacuum suits would be cool, it'd be simpler to just do a "protective belt" like the the Terra Volta reactor. Unlimited supply next to each airlock, useless anywhere else.

The Moon has a 28 day day/night cycle. THAT could be hard to do. I don't know if the game engine could handle running the day/night cycle at 28x slower for a single zone.

The Earth is essentially fixed in the sky from the Moon. It moves through a small area over the course of a lunar cycle, about twice the apparent diameter of the Earth, but a static, motionless Earth would be tolerable. It also goes through phases exactly the opposite of the Moon, but the in-game Moon doesn't go through phases easier. While it'd be cool to be able to see the Earth, it'd be simpler to just put the base on the Farside.

I would rather they just provide us with a bunch of space suit costume parts and let us figure out why the vacuum doesn't kill our characters. If they are already wearing a full environmental suit, or simply do not breath, suffocating would be kind of immersion breaking. Another costume slot and a working backpack attachment point would be nice too.

Ya know, im wondering about this. The comments from herocon seemed to indicate the full allocation of resources is going towards going rogue right now, so while i cant say id be thrilled with waiting that long for a new issue, that is what I am putting he realism of my hopes on. If there is an issue 17, I'd assume it is being done with minimal resources. expecting 2 new zones and powersets, more than there have been in the other issues till now, strikes me as setting yourself up to be disappointed, your call, but be prepared for the realistic result.

The longer this Paid Expansion leeches resources away from the Regular Issues, the less enthusiastic I am about giving them an additional payout for what I had understood to already be a part of my subscription fee. If issue 17 is as story-light as issues 13, 14, 15 and 16 have been, it will be a signal to me that the developers priorities and my own are now irreconcilable, and I'll be done with the game.

When issue 12 was released, it was considered "light" enough on Story Content that the developers actually apologized, and promised something big soon. The four isues since then have contributed less total story content combined than issue 12 did. The four issues leading up to City of Villains still saw the addition of Croatoa, Striga, the Hollows, Eden, the Shadow Shard and the Kheldian storylines. The four issues leading up to Going Rogue (which, unlike CoV, apparently isn't meant to contain sufficient content for a completely seperate level 1-50 experience) have contained the addition of... two task forces and four contacts. Barracuda, Dr. Kahn, Daedalus, Sister Airlia, Mercedes Sheldon, and... the Architect Entertainment tutorial guy, for a combined total of 11 story arcs. Of course, this span has also contained the Mission Architect system itself, which is certainly noteworthy. But what it isn't is cannon story progress. It's essentially a delivery system for CoH fanfic. If an actual comic book were taking this long between story updates and someone suggested to me that I could satisfy my craving by reading fanfic instead, I'd pretty quickly eliminate them from my list of people worth talking to about fiction.

This is the problem. I like the official storyline. I'm interested in the official storyline. I want to see more of the official storyline. But I was promised from the beginning that updates to the official storyline would be a part of the Regular Issues. Seeing all the story resources reassigned to a paid expansion for well over a year now has the same feeling as seeing all the really good new costume bits delivered via microtransactions.

tl;dr - I've been waiting more than two years now to see what the Coming Storm is, dammit. There had better be some story updates that have nothing whatsoever to do with the Going Rogue paid expansion in the very near future.

Oh and in response to the Nightphail person: I'll be getting my content come Nov. 3rd when Dragon Age: Origins comes out. My sub to CoX runs until Dec. 25th. By then I'll decide if I stay or if I go. Either way, you won't see me complaining about content in the near future.
