One must wonder if Dual Pistols is going to be like Dual Blades - flashy, but ultimately bleh. I'm guessing it'll have actual usefulness in addition to the looks though, based on the ability to change your damage type and secondary effects.

Based purely on looks, I'm all over that gun kata power set.

It could fire marshmallows, and I'd be on it.

However, with the varied damage types, I think it should surpass DB. DB would be decent but for the Lethal damage type. To be able to pick from Fire, Cold, Toxic, etc... that's awesome. Even if its just one damage type that can't be changed, its a huge difference.

Dual Blades is perfectly functional and unique. How is it even somewhat 'bleh'? Do you just mean because it's 'another' weapon?
I can kind of see that, but I mean come on *WE* voted for it. And it wound up looking really cool too, how'd we lose there?

Also, you think varied ammo types will apply to the assault rifles also? (guess prolly not) and why would we ever pick lethal? (laughs)

Thing about Dual Blades is its reliance on the combo system to achieve the best effectiveness and in some scenarios that doesn't always happen. I'm not saying it's not unique, and I'm not saying it's not functional. I am saying that it's just not that good when compared to the other melee weapon sets (Battle Axe is kind of lol, but then you've got Mace, Katana, and Broadsword). The animations look nice, but since PvE damage isn't balanced around animation time, that means you're just locked in long-ish animations while other sets have managed to put out multiple attacks. Don't get me wrong, I rolled a DB Brute when I11 launched because I loved the way the set looked - but there's a reason DB's relatively rare despite its looks.

I'm merely hoping Dual Pistols doesn't fall into the same pit, and I think much of that will be avoided with the ability to switch between damage types and secondary effects on the fly.

No. From what I understand, choosing your damage type isn't a one-time deal - there's actually going to be a power within the set (called Cycle Ammo or something like that) which allows you to choose the kind of damage, and secondary effects, you want your pistols to be dealing. If I had to guess I'd say lethal would be -def, fire would be extra DoT, cold would be -speed/-rech, and toxic would be -res. I'd also assume the Cycle Ammo power would be on a relatively long cooldown, but again, we won't know any concrete details other than how the set looks until the beta starts next year.

I think they mean from a strictly numbers perspective. It does the most resisted damage type, and overall isn't a stand-out among the cute little initialisms that get flashed around (mainly on the Scrapper boards).

I hope they remember to include europe in the Beta. There will be people with 5 year vets etc.

On a second note it's nice to see Paragon rising to the competition.

I'd probably have 1 blaster for each incendiary XD.

They could even out Lethal Rounds with just doing more damage.

In the end, this far into it, I'm thinking you'll be suprised to learn there will be reasons to use Lethal Rounds over the others.

I can't wait for the set though. Oh how I've been waiting and waiting. And quite frankly 2nd Quarter is to long of a wait.

I hope they're not planning a GR for year 6 release! They need to get it out ASAP!

Little nit-pick. The best ST attack chain for DB use none of the combos. =P


Back to the topic. WOW, a power set that can change damage type. That'll be even better then WP in the "bad against none" categorie.

I'll just be happy if the devs don't let the players use this as a new exploit the way they do so many other things.

They have to realize, one would hope, that many decisions are based purely on damage type, and regardless of the timer on a cycle power, players will look to optimize based on that. It takes the "I only farm Demons" mentality to a mobile level.

I don't see how this would be a bad thing. For the sake of argument lets say pistols replaces set x for the demon farm as top demon farmer. You get people playing and building new farmers for this. Now they have built toons that are more versatile and can do many other things. If they are doing other things they aren't farming. If they are just farming other things, good for them they are having more fun with their toons .

Too many good things seem to be ruined by people going 'Oh, people will exploit it', 'Oh but people win more with it in PvP, waaah' and so many more...

Wasn't it also stated that it only converts 30% of the damage to the elemental type?

So even with Incendiary rounds, or Cryo rounds or whatever, it's a primarily Lethal damage set anyhow. It's only going to lead to a marginal increase in damage.

100lethal damage vs 50%resist = 50damage
70lethal damage vs 50%resist = 35damage +30elemental(assuming no resist) or 65damage total.

Is it better than before? yes.
Is it THAT MUCH better? Not really no.

The sooner everyone realizes that metagame comes before role playing, the quicker any game moves forward. We could all pretend it won't happen and stick our heads in the sand and wait for inevitable, large scale 'nerfs' such as AE brought.

I don't know how much more proof ones needs than the last few years to realize people will look to exploit things, both in PvE and PvP. It only makes sense to expect and anticipate such things in designing a set.

There is nothing in the game that you aren't exploiting. Now that the destruction of english portion is taken care of, we can move on to you what you really meant. If people get this they would somehow have an unfair advantage over you, or some hypothetical other player. Well seeing as everyone has the same access to powersets this is rendered moot. Arguments of the form well I don't want to or its not my playstyle while true hardly give you the right to deny others.

So lets look at it again. You are potentially upset because instead of having to build 4 characters for farming people might be able to build only one. I can't take anything good away from that. You apparently want as little joy for the people that like to farm as possible and want the game made as unaccomodating as possible for them.

Brilliant.

Edit; And P.S. please dont try to make this about game breaking mechanics your referrence to farming in your initial post was pretty damn clear.

Pistols is loaded (pun intended) with "1000 cuts" type animations from the looks of it.

Hopefully it won't be all flash and no dash, and hopefully that was an unslotted defender using the set in the video heh.

Have had my name saved for awhile on Justice for my dual pistols toon. After seeing the vfx of the powerset, the name Circus Shot will fit nicely! Can't wait for GR!

Well, in the video I saw there were about 6 or so attacks that I noticed. The animations all seemed fairly speedy except for the pbaoe. Heck, even the pbaoe was only 3 or so seconds I think, which if it was a nuke of some sort would be pretty understandable.

It looked to me like a pistols/em blaster to me. There were a lot of energy manipulation self buffs in the initial buff-up phase.
