I often wondered if I was the only person in the entire state of Alabama playing this game.

I work at a hotel and recently I overheard some guests enjoying breakfast. Someone mentioned finally getting their paladin to level 80 to his friend, you'd have thought that everyone in the room instantly knew him. People from other states started chiming in about their experiences in the game.
Made me really....
Jealous.

I've often hoped to hear someone talking about their blaster being too squishy, or that lusca was to tough solo.
I'd imagine being able to strike up a conversation right away with them. trading tips and tricks.

You see, I have no friends. At least none that care to play an MMO.
The ones I do know are so vested in 'that other one' to even give COX a glance.

So I have nobody to share this game with in real life.
I have an SG, really great group, but it's not the same.
I've tried to get my girlfriend to play but it's just not for her. She's still struggling with Super Mario afterall.
My RL best friend played for a few months but quickly burned out, just wasn't for him.

Way it goes I guess. I was just curious, have any of you ever run into someone that plays?
Maybe they overheard you talking about it.
Maybe they saw the boards on your laptop at starbucks and just started talking about it.

Anyone?

I actually encountered someone who played in a Spanish class I took over the summer. Thing is, it was a few months before I started playing, so I had no context for what a "level 50 Kheldian" was. That's pretty much been it though.

I'm not surprised you haven't encountered anyone. CoH has a much smaller subscriber base than WoW. Face it, we're in a niche.

Wow. As if the first post wasn't depressing enough...

I'm a lucky SOB... I work with 2 players.

I was hanging around around the Deli department (I work in a grocery store... Yeah. :P) and as I'm getting my meal I hear the assistant deli manager and one of the meat slicers says "So, I tried soloing the Reichsman. Baaaad idea."

This immediately caught me. "... What AT?" Immediately I have both pairs of eyes on me. "What server?"
"G-G-Guardian?"
"GAH!" Turns out they play on Freedom. I rolled up a Defender and got onto their team. Turns out? There are 11 people in the district I work in that play, and we got together for a team. After they played enough tricks to bring me close to the debt cap (LOLDEBT) they told me I was 'in'. It was the hazing, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Here's to you, guys.

You weren't. My girlfriend plays, and she lived there until May. She moved to Maine for a better job and to live with me though, so you lost one. My gain though.

I was quite amazed when I was browsing a hentai site and I came across a pic that I could SWEAR was right out of City of Heroes, right down to an almost perfect recreation of several costume items. I first caught the little Bat wings, and then it went from there. It was a nice pic, too.

I'm nor sure if I should be impressed or concerned that my first thought upon seeing an erotic picture was "Wait! I recognise those wings! Could it be?!?"

Browsing through the artist's gallery revealed that he was drawing his character from City of Heroes, complete with an... Interesting "Gratz on 50" pic. I wish I'd kept the link...

That's a side of Sam I could've gone without.

well, i know 3, because i introduced 2 of them to it, and i knew some guys from the old electronics boutique that played, but they cleaned house because their district manager is a horrid person, so i lost track of them. I have met no other ones in the wild. I was surprised to find out how many western pennsylvanians play, from a thread in another subforum. well, not too surprised, the alternative entertainment options aint exactly boundless.

They don't play CoH anymore, but the manager at a nearby Gamestop played CoH. He quit because CoH didn't have enough hardcore end-game raiding and started playing WoW.

Yea ....

I know of at least two forum posters ( names withheld ) whose names I recognized from erotica sites; both with at least some CoX themed stuff. And on one such site I did run across a picture titled "Recluse's Victory" that had a quite unusual take on the meaning of the phrase.

I understand what you feel.

I live in Malaysia and I am one of maybe three people in the entire country who play this game. Over here, World of Warcraft is a distant rumor from a faraway galaxy and nobody knows what EVE Online, Aion or Everquest are.

None of my real life friends are interested in this game (or any Western MMO, for that matter). The few who do play MMO games play horribly grindy Korean, Chinese or local ones that are F2P or paid for by microtransactions, and which are more populated by bots than live humans.

That's sort of where I am. I live in Bulgaria, and I'm sort of at the bottom of a large collection of unlikelyhoods. Few people here play games at all, and few of those that do play MMOs. Few of the people who play MMOs actually pay for theirs, and fewer still play anything other than WoW. I might well be the only person in the entire country who plays City of Heroes and actually pays for his service like a good customer. And it's even worse, since I'm in Eastern Europe, and even if someone else DID buy CoH, he'd be muscled into buying the EU version.

In fact, I could use my own native language as an unbreakable code here on the forums, since I'm fairly certain no-one but me speaks it here

"Run into"? No. I make sure to occasionally wear my CoH t-shirt while out shopping, etc and have yet to have anyone comment. (And I live in New York City where people aren't shy about accosting strangers on the street!)

On the other hand, I started playing CoH after several RL friends told me about it. Most of them don't play any more, but my brother and his wife do.

Flashback 3 years ago...

So everyone had already gotten to know the new guy at work, but being the only person in my "department" I didn't have time to know jack about the guy. Finally I get the chance due to a bunch of the kids calling out sick, and I'm stuck on register duty right next to him. Turns out he's pretty cool, and we become friends.

Fast forward 2 months later. I ask him how his weekend was one Monday, and he says he just stayed home and did his "geekiest" hobby. Boy, was I shocked. He'd been playing almost as long as I had.

Super-fast forward to the present. He used to play on his boyfriend's computer, and hasn't been able to afford a gaming PC since he broke it off with that jerkwad.

My girlfriend also works with someone who plays regularly. So if you want to meet real life CoH players, work in Missouri!

Theres like 4 maybe 5 people in the game who are from wales On union i think i know a total of 3 other people from wales, know theres another cardiffian on your US servers but not sure how many more.

Same as you though, none of my friends play any MMO really [got my one mate to play it a month but didnt take his fancy] and would love a mate to play it with me since i think i'ld enjoy it a whole lot more! Isnt the same playing with a "stranger" [even if u get to know them] rather than a RL friend.

I discovered that there was at least one person in my hometown who played several years ago, when his copy of the Blue King City of Heroes comic and mine stuck together (because of the plastic wrap) and both were delivered to me. No idea whether he still plays, but there you are.

used to play with 3 others from my area, but they've all migrated to the big MMO. I was there, I'm back here.

I run into several who used to play or whose spouses used to play, etc. I've not found any current local players, but the game still sells at the local Best Buy, so I'm guessing they are around.

I have been mildly amused at folks' reactions when I say I play an MMO. Particularly those who have endured their relatives playing the fantasy MMOs. You can tell they brace for a lengthy description of some uber dwarf of elf I'm playing, but they seem genuinely surprised and interested when I say I play a superhero. I still think a little TV advertising might make these interested parties better aware of what we have to offer.

Well, I've introduced a few people to the game, and we still play together. However, since moving to Lethbridge, I've been pretty well alone in my CoH habit.

About two weeks ago, though, I was down at the Dairy Queen by the University, and two of the clerks were mentioning things like "The Next Big Thing" badge. I would have taken the opportunity to ask about it, but my order came up, so I just headed off.

Also, I know one guy in my Dramatic Narrative class who used to play, but switched over to CO. Clearly, he's mad. I've kept a suspicious eye on him ever since.

I'd love to see some TV ads, maybe on G4 or Spike.
You could even do them up like a spoof on the 'I'm a PC, I'm a Mac' ads and have a I'm a hero, I'm a villain banter.
Then have a rogue pop out saying I'm neither...

One of my longtime online acquaintances lives in Singapore, which is close to Malaysia as I understand it. He was on several times last week at times I was on, although I usually don't see him. I think he's still moderately active.
