Well... I'm loyal to CoH in the sense that I've renewed my subscription in each of the last two months despite not actually playing much, but that's down to the promise of early(ish) access to the Going Rogue beta.
Recently I've been playing mainly WoW, which is probably heresy in the eyes of some people.

HA! You silly WoW players with your quaint concepts of torches and pitchforks.
*builds a quantum reality drive phaser and attaches it to the end of a stick and pokes Nightshade with it*
HA! Take THAT!
1) Thats suggest the marketing ploy 'loyalty through thick and thin' has some merit
2) WoW hate is over done. Its a decent enough game, but for sure not my cup of tea. So any hate that comes, just let it pass.

But I wonder how many people who play MMOs subscribe to more than one at a time? (I honestly do not know.)

You're just coming to this realization?
You see this in every MMO, without exception. Folks go to try something new and the mouth breathers (some of whom have, sadly, procreated ) start talking about people being disloyal.
This is most likely the most common occurrence. I admit I am the most extreme of outliers.

However, there are the folks that say, "OMG! So and so is playing Aion now! Well, looks like they weren't so loyal to CoH after all!" Or the "Well, looks like so and so is playing Aion... good, glad they're gone."

In this context it isn't a very useful term.

My City Was Gone
So, as I tend to surf the global channels often, I happen upon a discussion about questioning people's loyalty to CoH if they play other NCsoft games. Lately the talk has been about Aion.
Don't think this is turning into a flame-fest, well, at least from me, against Aion. In fact, I've subscribed to it and I'm loving every minute of it. However, there are the folks that say, "OMG! So and so is playing Aion now! Well, looks like they weren't so loyal to CoH after all!" Or the "Well, looks like so and so is playing Aion... good, glad they're gone." The funny thing is that people tend to see things no more than 3 feet in front of them. They see playing Aion as a breakaway from CoH. They think that subscribing to Aion hurts CoH. Well, sadly, they are mistaken. Any business made from subscriptions and sales of Aion actually helps CoH. CoH isn't only getting funding from their own subscriptions. They get funding from NCsoft, who in fact is taking in the money from both products. If Aion does well, it means there is a larger pool of money that can be distributed between the products that NCsoft produces/distributes. Just like the money taken in from CoH is used to fund other NCsoft titles. Every major company makes a product that competes with itself, well, because no matter what product is bought, the corporation takes in money. Maytag makes more than one washing machine. Blizzard makes more than one MMO. NCsoft is just another company that is making its own competition just so it can continue to produce the products that we love so much. So, the next time that you see someone bash someone for playing another NCsoft game, you march right up to them and give them a stiff right hook to the jaw! Any money that can go towards the preservation of CoH is clean money in my book! And that's the way it was. Before that, I was playing Batman: AA, before that Champions Online, before that Civ IV, Prototype, World of Goo, Deadspace, Left 4 Dead, etc etc.

On the question of loyalty I think BAB's response sorta answers it. I can eat at McDonalds and Burger King without being 'disloyal' to either. Naturally I'd also have severe indigestion, but ya know...I like me burgers.

I'm playing Aion right now. A lot of other people here in the office are also playing it.

I think you should be loyal to your friends and family.
And nothing else. |
Where a subscription fee is charged, my loyalty lasts as long as the subscription period, and that loyalty is not necessarily exclusive.
That being said, I have time for about one game at a time. Odds are, if I'm active in this game, there isn't another.
I had country in my list once. I even took an oath to defend my country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
And then one day I realized that my country had been taken over by domestic enemies a loooooong time ago.
Be well, people of CoH.
The only thing I hope BaB's takes away from Champions is the travel power flavoring ideas (I do sooooo like Acrobatics as a travel set. Flippity-flippity-flippity-BOING! Also "platform" flying adds a nice touch.
Bill, I am constantly distracted by your signature banner, just WHAT is going on there?

That's my main impaling Lilitu with his claws. Don't feel too bad for her. In lore she's done the same and worse to him many times over the centuries they've been dancing.
Be well, people of CoH.
I'd be loyal to anything and anyone who would be loyal to me in return; nothing more, nothing less.
