Invincibility sound loop

Posted

As of this morning, I noticed that invincibility is making a sound when you bump into a foe. It sounds like the first second or so of the sound invincibility made when you turn it on, past tense because it isn't playing a sound when it is turned on. Guessing the sound got flipped as to when it should play or something.

I ran into this on a brute, I asked around it looks like its across all AT's. Its kind of annoying.

I am getting the same thing on my Tank, but it seems to be glitchy. I had to play around with it to get it to work the way you describe.

It worked just fine when I logged into Warburg. I had to go to Kings Row and toggle it on again to notice the problem you described. Maybe it's cause I was EX'd? Seems silly. I went back to Warburg again and it still doesn't happen.

Invincibility has a modifier included; enemies within range (up to ten) grant a +tohit and defense bonus, which might explain why the sound loop only happens when enemies are within range, and not while there aren't any enemies within range.

I have the same problem on my brute; when I turn on the toggle, there's no animation sound, but there definitely is when I run into an enemy...over and over.

Bugged it when I first noticed it two hours ago, and now I know if I want to play my Invul, I probably either want to run without Invincibility or turn off sound... I'm hoping it'll get fixed soon though, because I'd rather not have to choose for sanity's sake. >>

I have a level 50 Scrapper, a level 42 Brute, and a level 39 Tanker with Invincibility. None of them play a sound on activating Invincibility, but the Tanker and Brute get the loop while in melee. The Scrapper doesn't. None were exemplared when I checked them.

Very annoying. Came here to see if other people had run into it.

It's very consistent for me. I tried fiddling with the power and can't get it to not do this.

But the question is, do you HEAR what is going on here?

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I don't have any speakers, so no.

+ 1 here, level 50 tanker and I'm getting the looping sound as soon as I am in melee. Irritating!

Just for giggles I tested while exemplared, and it still did it. Looks like BaBs is onto what's up though, so I'll stop fiddling.

Hmm, either Order Entry or CSR, going to go CSR because they [customers] don't get irate before they order...

So BaB's has nightmares about having to rig 6-legged skeletons to support hundreds of transitioning animations ... while wearing a headset.

Gotcha...

You, sir, are cruel.

I wonder if one of our talented artists could get some concept art going on that?

Get a set with the small foam pressure pads, then instead of putting them over your ears, put them behind your ears on the Mastoid processes (the bone that sticks out behind your ears).

That bone conducts sound almost as good as your ears and it doesn't block out exterior sounds in the environment.

Hehe I turned off sound in CoH in 2005 or so and only have the shock and horror of the game sounds when I run it on a new machine or a freshly reformatted machine. It is very weird how I deeply dislike the sound effects in game they take away a lot from the game for me. (Although CoV does have some nice sinister music sometimes)

Well on top of the sound loop, on my female inv/ tanker Invincibility doesn't even show FX anymore. I double checked the power customization to see if a glitch had made it slip into NO FX option but it's still on the original setting, no customization, but still doesn't show FX. In the costume editor it shows the FX delayed after a couple of second in the preview, not in sync with the animation.

My 50 Scrapper has this issue and I know why. Open up Powers/Combat Attributes/Defense and make sure your sound is on. Then approach a baddie that cons grey and just stand next to it. I did this with a CoT Demon 5 levels under me.
The numbers in the defense window will go up and down, giving and then taking away the defense bonus. Each time this happens, it activates another instance of the sound. The sound is NOT looping.
And if you stand there long enough, each instance of the sound eats up more memory. until you run out of memory and the game has a hard crash.
DO NOT run a TF/SF with Invinc on or you WILL DC. Even if there are pauses between groups of baddies, the memory has been "eaten". It took me 12 minutes standing in front of the Demon before the game hard crashed.
I just ran Lady Grey's TF and half-way thru, the lag had built up somethin' fierce. I turned off the Invinc and the lag cleared up.
Then 2 mins out of the TF, while hanging in air (cuz i was getting a soda refill) the game hard crashed.

You're Welcome =)

While I cannot contest that there may be a memory issue for some systems, it is not universal. I ran my Invul Scrapper through numerous missions spawned for four, then went on an 8-man ITF. I did not crash or appear any the worse for wear, other than being kind of tired of hearing the sound.

It doesn't seem to eat my memory either, was playing all night yesterday - no crashes.

A sound that constantly replays is still a looping sound, regardless of the mechanic that's causing it. Point is, it shouldn't play at that point anyway.

Replaying the sound does not eat up memory... at least it doesn't for me. My Main#2 is an Invul tank and I've been using her constantly without any crashing issues or crazy memory problems.

I had my music turned off when I was in Warburg and noticed this sound replaying issue on my level 50 invuln tanker. Was using the tintable version of invincibility at the time.

Upon further examination I almost always get this to happen when I have an enemy in range for invincibility. It sounds like the powering up FX the power runs when you turn it on. I didn't notice any problems with memory regarding this, I do have a crash issue but it's probably not related to this.

Saw BAB was working on it but I figured more input wouldn't hurt.
