Real life farming

So everyone is against farming, well almost everyone. Its a bad thing, destroys a game etc etc.
this is what wikipedia says about farming :

Quote:
Gold farming is a general term for an MMORPG activity in which a player attempts to acquire ("farm") items of value which are sold to create stocks of in-game currency ("gold"), usually by exploiting repetitive elements of the game's mechanics. This is usually accomplished by carrying out in-game actions (such as killing an important creature) repeatedly to maximize gains, sometimes by using a program such as a bot or automatic clicker. More broadly, the term "gold farmer" could refer to a player of any type of game who repeats mundane actions over and over in order to collect in-game currency and items.
Now I can think of a few times where me or someone else has farmed in real life, like taxi drivers hanging around busy nightclubs for good fares or some other situations.
have you ever farmed outside the mmo world?

Well, I actually grew up on a farm. The kind with animals, that is.

I farm every day. I go to the same resource field, repeat the same actions over and over, and gain a monitary reward.

The only difference between my RL and CoH is that I don't look nearly as good in tights in RL.

Do lap dances count as farming?

sure, I've done some stuff that could be called "farming".

Back in the day, my roommates and I used to follow yard sales, store closings, storage shed auctions, that kind of stuff, hoping to find bulk sports cards and comic books at discount prices, then sort through them to find the money makers. We'd sell those at the local flea market, and sell the rest for whatever we could get to the card and comic shops. We didn't get rich, but it was good mad money for guys right out of college. I remember finding a Willie Mays which due to the unique photo (he'd had a black eye the day it was taken) was worth $100 in 1992 currency.

And we didn't limit ourselves to cards and comics. I still remember a storage auction where a roommate paid 40 bucks for a piece of professional sound equipment. I think it was an amplifier. He took it to the guy in town who sold expensive upscale sound systems to businesses and rich people. The guy recognized the item, not just model but serial number. He used to service that very item. Turned out to be some fancy piece from a closed nightclub. It was worth a couple of thousand. It blew my mind when my roommate didnt cash out, but instead traded it for a new upscale sound system.

Same pick`up lines in the same pub/bar could be considered farming. Lots of farming at work places for "badges" and raises

Now, is that real-life farming, or real-life flipping?

I grew up on a farm.

'low risk high rewards' is NOT the words I'd use, put it that way. At least it seems to be raining this year but my family's still going further into debt.

I go to work. What more do I need to say?

But then, I don't like doing that in real life, which is why I cry bloody murder when I have to do it in-game.

I totally used to farm customers for my 'gainfully employed' badge.

Nowadays I craft code instead. I'd probably make more just flipping it, but that gets you less accolades in the long term (even though I already have a laptop mobile crafting station.)

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Horse farmers are just rich people who like big animals... seriously we can make a bale of hay (mini round bale) for £1.80, that's from grass standing in the field to a bale either wrapped and stacked or in your barn. If we can find a mug... wait horse farmer (that's a stables to you) we can sell the bale for £5 or more...

Sadly we have a small herd of small cows (Dexters) some sheep and goats plus ancillary livestock so we can't sell what we have this year... maybe next year we'll be able to buy new clothes.

When I say we I mean my parents, any luck and I'll get a nice job in IT and live in a real town... not in the rural location I'm stuck in now.

Lets see...

When I was young I used to farm my parents for extra money which I spent mostly on clothes and sweets. I've 'farmed' the vending machine at the parents club for the Cherry Coke (why is there only ONE button for cherry and FOUR for regular coke?) since it tends to sell out quickly if I don't get there first. Oh... and I've 'farmed' for compliments. Everyone needs a little pick me up sometime.

Not any big animal - horses

And there's a difference between owning a horse for riding, and owning horses to breed them - only the breeders would be like farmers - normal riders just have gigantic pets

If you have enough horses (say, because you offer riding vacations), then other farm activities (specifically, harvesting hay and straw) can come pretty naturally. From a certain size on, buying food and straw instead of harvesting it yourself is not necessarily the best option, economically speaking.
