A Rant About i16 (undocumented changes to TFs lead to bugs...big surprise)
So does this mean we should be expecting some sort of change to the Hess TF sometime in the next few issues?

To Horatio, Backalley Brawler, and Castle:
Thank you for coming into this thread and delivering your insights and mea culpas. I have noticed that less and less people in our society seem willing to admit to mistakes. It takes a courageous and responsible person to do so.
I have also found that most people are willing to forgive and forget after an apology. At least I am. Not only that, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is. I had cancelled my second account and not purchased the magic or science packs in protest after I15 (let's not go into why and ruin the moment).
Tonight, if the store is open, I will purchase the packs and renew my second account.

Thank you for the posts in the topic. We appreciate all of the comments. Its really not our intentions to try to slip changes past the players; we want to be as up front and transparent with you all as we can. We want to make sure that every change appears in the patch notes so you know whats going on with the game.
Occasionally, we slip up, and thats what happened with the Hess Task Force. As Positron has mentioned in the past, we are generally working an issue or two ahead of the current issue. This means we maintain multiple code and data branches, to make sure that stuff from the future issues doesnt creep into the current issue (though that has happened from time to time.) Due to changes in our internal processes (to make this kind of error less likely in the future) a number of incomplete changes slipped through. Since this was not intentional they were pushed to live with no notice (and no testing). In short, we screwed up. For that, I apologize. Were sweeping through the old data to make sure there isnt anything else that fell between those same cracks. If there is, well fix it and put it in the patch notes. We also have a lot of processes in place to test what were doing before it gets out to PTS and to the live server. We want to make sure that what were giving you works, and our QA departments do their best to catch bugs before they become a problem on live. However, an MMORPG is a complex game, with lots of moving parts. We do not have the ability to test everything every issue. If we arent making changes to something, we have to assume it still functions. We do perform regression testing, but, as I said, we just cant do regression on every item in the game. Not if we want to actually ship an issue. The bug to Katies ability to follow the heroes came about because of change to something else in the game. We didnt run into any other problems with escort missions breaking and we didnt come across the problem with Katie and the witches until you guys found it. Were sorry it affected your game play and were working to find and fix the problem as quickly as possible. Were adding the problem with the Katie TF to the known issues list and well let you know via the patch notes when it is fixed. Again, Im really sorry this happened. It is really important to us that our patch notes are complete and describe all of the changes and fixes that are in the patch. We will do our best to make certain that this type of thing doesnt happen again. --Horatio |

Thanks alot for actually reading the thread and showing that you cared and taking responsibility for your work. It makes the work you do more respectable and restores trust and faith with us something that i think got lost in the events flea refrenced.

I think the locking and unlocking of the thread is fine as long as people refrain from ad hominem attacks and stay on topic.
However, since the redname posts have made it very clear what went awry, there isn't much left to go back and forth over. Thanks to all the rednames, including the mods, for being responsive and clearing things up.
PS. This is the ultimate thread necro.

In which case, recognizing this reality, perhaps it's time we piped down and got on with the sucking it up.
RE: KHTF
We ran this TF over the weekend. Everything went fine until the last mission (duh) where we are required to save Katie's spirit and lead her to the entrance. The only problem we ran into is that she wouldn't follow us if we flew.
We had to lead her out the old fashion way by killing everything in our path, the ambushes and whatever else that crazy witch aggroed.
Total time on the TF was 40 mins. Probably took us an extra 10-15 on the last mission compared to previous runs.
Just thought I would join in on the actual topic, sortof-ish.
I love this thread. It's one of the many "my brain is bigger than yours" threads.
Regarding the OP's rant.... he suggests that he wanted to show some "new" WoW folks around by trying out a TF. So they shoot for KHTF? Don't you still have to be 30-something to run that? If these "new" people have managed to get that far in the game, I'm sure they've managed to formulate a first impression that does NOT hinge on that particular task force. (Unless they were farmed to 30+ and then tried some actual content, which if they were left with a bad taste in their mouth, would be no great loss anyway.)
So I have to wonder if the "new WoW" folks was just added to try and bolster the initial complaint.

In today's CoX, level 30 and even the 40s can be achieved in a couple of days by most teams/farms/PLs, for good and bad. From what I remember I think these folks were 40-42ish.
I chose KHTF since it was a short TF, as I had a hami raid to attend in an hour. Since I had a personal target time of less than 30 minutes to finish the TF and get into the Hive (max 1 hour or the Hive would have filled up and I'd be SOL), my choices were Eden (9), Hess (21), ITF (25), 5TF (21) and KHTF (20). Outside choices would be Manti (42), Numina (45), and Cavern (12). Didn't bother with Ouros TFs. The bracketed numbers are the average number of minutes that my teams can finish the TF in.
Task Forces that required too much ghosting wouldn't be fun for new folks/non stealthers, and ones that had too much going on, ie defeat alls or defeat X would mean that the team would probably be moving too fast for their skill level. Slowing down would have breached my time constraints. ITF was out then.
Eden was too short to have much fun for them, Hess (didn't know it was bugged at that time) and 5TF requires significant explaining about the whys and wherefores in order to do it under 25 min, so that was out.
LGTF (24)/STF (41) needs 45+ so it was no go anyhow, regardless of complexity. Cavern was too boring (single mish, not much to do).
KHTF was the best choice, since they got to face down 10 AVs in the first mission, and didn't require that they move from mob to mob so I could watch them. The second mission I could ghost and vet tp them to the end mob, and the third defeat all mission was a small map. The final escort was normally easy anyhow, and not everyone needed to be present to rescue Katie's Spirit.
I wanted to show them content outside of AEs...they wanted to know what a TF was like, and 'real' content. And yes, having new folk see buggy things does bolster the initial complaint because they shouldn't be Beta testers, nor should I, on the Live servers.
PS. It is also why I was miffed, since we had to abandon the TF as opposed to waiting for resolution, since sitting around for 20 minutes without support coming (not that I blame support for not coming before then) meant that 5 of the 8 team members had to leave to get into the Hive, which made them feel like jerks for abandoning the TF for their Hami commitments.
