Issue17

I have seen this mentioned in posts. Isn't a bit soon to be talking about I17, especially when I think we can all agree that GR will be next.

I17 and Going Rogue are likely to come out at the same time. Much like with CoV, the devs would generally release an Issue alongside an expansion- to match things up with the expansion content, and so players that don't have the expansion yet don't have to download a big patch full of stuff they can't access.

Mind you, we have no idea at all what I17 will entail beyond that, so it's all baseless speculation and lies for a while.

Sounds reasonable to me, lol. I saw I17 mentioned and I thought wow, we just got I16, how could they be mentioning I17 already.

Standard operating procedure around here requires immediate DOOM calls after any issues release (plenty of that out there) AND immediate "that was nice when/what is the next issue" posts.

Pretty much on schedule.

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

R.I.P.
Chyll - Bydand - Violynce - Enyrgos - Rylle - Nephryte - Solyd - Fettyr - Hyposhock - Styrling - Beryllos - Rosyc
Horryd - Myriam - Dysquiet - Ghyr
Vanysh - Eldrytch
Inflyct - Mysron - Orphyn - Dysmay - Reapyr - - Wyldeman - Hydeous

Also the Devs have said previously they work about 2 issues ahead meaning we could actually start talking about all the great stuff we want in I18.

I still haven't seen the developer quote that links I17 and GR... All I remember is the post from BaB relating I15, I16 and GR.

...I forgot what experience means.

I don't agree. We knew CoV was coming as the 'next expansion' several issues before it actually dropped. Pretty much anytime up to the start of closed beta is reasonable to talk about what should be in the next issue.

Yeah the devs were dropping CoV hints about a year prior to it being released.

I'm actually in the super-secret i17 double-closed beta and I can give you some details about what's coming in i17.

i17 will be preparing for the new Going Rogue setting, and as such will be introducing 5 new classes. One of them was hinted at in a previous interview, the Spy. Here are the new classes and a brief overview:

Spy: Assault/Defense. Similar to Stalkers, but have Assault as a primary so that they can fight at range or in melee. They have some elemental choices but also do martial arts and things. Their hybrid assault sets tend to have things like pistols and knives. They also have an assassin ability which is a backstab.

Soldier: Ranged/Defense. These are sort of like Blasters in a way. They're high damage dealers on the grayside, but also come with some self-defense options. One of their available sets is a rocket launcher which can critical hit.

Engineer: Summon/Ranged. Similar to MMs, but a lot of the engineer pets are stationary so you have to be careful how to use them. You do have some ranged attacks to fall back on but your primary use is making sure you have pets going. They can however build teleporters to make sure people can get in and out of combat easily.

Medic: Buff/Buff. Since the devs have noticed how popular "healers" are and how often people ask for them, they went for a pure support class that can make sure people get all the healing they need. As such grayside only has one support class, but it's very useful. They can do things like heal people and even make them invincible for a short time.

The other one they're working on is still in progress but they're thinking it'll be a tank-based class that has ranged attacks.

Do you think they're going to do a scout class?

To be fair, the devs were talking about CoV before CoH even launched That was more conceptual than anything else though.

So really I17 is part of GR. I18 will be whatever they have planned, new content or so on and so forth.

Maybe. We have no way of knowing.

If you were in a super secret closed beta, you aren't now as you just broke the NDA of all closed betas

Well, we know spy has been talked about, but a stalker clone doesn't sound right to to me.

Though I'd love to see a blaster-like toon with more personal defences, this does sound hideously over powered.

So, a whole AT built around the traps set premise? Seems redundant to me.

So, a completely non damage dealing AT that canot solo anything, let alone survive the tutorial mish?

This wouldn't be a heavy would it, because all the other names are right out of Team Fortress.

Sorry if I've missed some sort of joke here, but just reads like a personal wish list to me!

Hmmm... I wonder.

Initially my assumption was that GR was going to be I17 since we got confirmation that I16 was not going to be GR.It wasn't until after the clarification of I16 being something ntirely different that it lead me to belive that I17 was going to be the expansion.Bare in mind that this was only my assumption and not based on anything concrete.

Now that I16 has come and gone it has left me wondering what WILL I17 bring to the table. Is it going to be relevant with GR much how like I6 was with CoV or will it be an entirely seperate Issue like I7 was (mind you this is just an example.)

If you figure about 3 months between issues, that puts i17 around November.
If the 2nd wave of beta invites comes after november *), i17 certainly isn't GR.

We don't even have a solid release date, pre-orders or anything yet for GR, so I'm guessin it'll come out early spring, maybe.

Remember, GR isn't just a free, fast issue. It's a complete Expansion, like CoV was. Expect a decent amount of time to drum up the release, advertise it properly and hype up those pre-orders.

(* Extrapolating what the devs have told us. 1st wave of beta invites is for 60 month vets, 2nd wave is those with an active account between August and November, and 3rd wave is the pre-orders.

If you couldn't get it from that, MY post should have definitely given it away...

Actually, that's the beauty of the super-secret i17 double-closed beta. It's not an NDA but rather a MDA. It's a Minor Disclosure Agreement. I'm allowed to make exactly two posts discussing the details of i17. But since I had to explain that, I can't tell you about the new CTF maps now!

Just pointing out there is no reason i17 has to come out in three months. It could easily come out next year, or in December. Not saying it GR is definitely connected to i17, just that it certainly isn't certain that it won't be.

I think I have to agree with Flyman. Most likely Wave 2 for GR closed isn't going to be untill around the first of theyear. I presume I17 will come before that. therefore I17 /= GR

I17 in November isn't a particularly realistic estimate. You're correct that it's typically 3 months, but that's from the initial announcement of the issue. Not to mention that the schedule is pretty full between now and the end of the year. They'd need to test the Holiday events (even if there were no changes and we already know there are some) before they could put a new issue on TR. IF they test both holiday events sometime in the next two weeks, then maybe maybe they could get I17 tested and done before December. If they don't, then don't expect it before the end of the year.
