Your thoughts on your i16 Trollers and custom powers
I think I might do a mind cold once I get the right colors figured out... blue green I think...
The cake is a lie! The cake is a lie!
Been playing a little, but still have a long way to go. First thing I did was to make changes to Area Man, my first 50 and #1 controller. He has a Mardi Gras colored outfit, so PA became Green and Purple . . . maybe not the most attractive, but everyone will know they are mine. Spectral Terror looks really nice in Dark Purple -- much spookier. Same with Phantasm. Most of the other Illusion powers don't really have that much to color. My Rad powers have some nice variety that will be useful . . . each of the three Rad Debuffs now have a different color, so I can see which ones apply.
Still thinking about a */Cold controller. As much as I love Illusion, I already have 3 Illusionists at 50 and another at 40. For Earth, I have my Earth/Rad at 50, an Earth/Storm at 39 and another at 21, plus an Earth/Kin in the 20's. Ice? Of course Ice/Cold go together thematically, but I have an Ice/Storm at 50, and Ice is so low damage that it could only be a team-support character -- my usual group does not seem to want to start up new characters on Guardian lately. Fire/Cold? Nice Dichotomy and Fire has the damage. I find it hard to imagine Fire with anything other than Rad or Kin, or maybe storm, but that may be where I go.
On the Earth control visual changes, I'm finding that I really like the Crystal set for most of the stone sets. I already changed my WP/Stone tank to red crystal and it looks really nice . . . but I have yet to play around with the colorization on Earth Control much. I haven't pulled up my Earth/Storm, Dirt Deveel (fans of Robert Lynn Aspirin will get the reference), but he might be a good one for the Lava effects.

I made a wee lad from the future (Technology Controller) named Celsius Boy. On both the primary (Fire) and the Secondary (Cold) I went with a primary color of a muted blue. I mean the blues on the right hand side of the costume color grid (they are in different places in the power color grid). For my secondary color I went with a grey/white. This gives all the fire powers (bright fire) and all the ice powers an overall blue gaseous / energy / hazy look. Hot Feet is going to look really tight with this color scheme. Same for Fire Imps, and etc.
Otherwise, my build is pretty generic. I'm just taking all my powers and slotting them in the most minimal / generic way to get some use out of them. I'm new to the cold set, after all.

I tweaked my Fire powers to make them look a little more robust. Red/Yellow really pops nicely, as opposed to the standard, monotonous orange of Fire.
I like LM's idea of different colors for different Rad debuffs. May have to play around with that.
I saw someone with a blood-red singularity. Looked very kewl, like a Pain/ vortex.
Stay Gold, Paragon. Stay Gold.
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
My son was playing around with a Fire/FF that he rolled up, as a witch with a red-n-black color scheme . . . Red and Black on Personal Force Field looks really nice, as do the fire powers in Red and Black.
I did roll up my Fire/Cold over lunchtime . . . all the powers are dark blue and purple or dark blue and black. It is an interesting look.
Did a Respec TF last night, and the new super sideKick is a huge improvement. No more invisible leash. No more worrying about matching up SKs with Mentors. It is a big quality of life improvement.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it puts the mission owner at the top of the team list (at least I think thats what it was doing). The result is that the team order is constantly shifting. That really sucks for keybinds and macros that target specific individuals or positions.
For example, I have shift+left Mouse button assigned to port player 2 on the team, and alt+left mouse button for player 3. I was running missions with a couple of friends last night and as we switched whose mission we were doing, my binds became broken. I had to go create a series of text files named recall12.txt and recall13.txt and recall23.txt so that I could load new binds as the team shifted. Blah.
I would guess it would suck for bubblers too, just in terms of re-learning each mission which slot you were in so that you dont fail to target yourself and then hit the last guy you buffed again. I know it seems a simple matter to just remember "I'm player 5" but I rely on the instinct of repetition to get me solid when it comes to that. So if I were to get out my bubbler, I bet it'd drive me bonkers. I expect that I would occasionally try to do the pattern from last mission on THIS mission with the different team order. Once I get both patterns in my head, even some, I start repeating the incorrect one more often.
Or is there a way to disable that? It would be nice if the team list order could remain rigid. Maybe I overlooked an option.

I built my Fire/Cold Dom controller last night, Divine Equilibrium...got his powers fixed up all nice and purddy I won't be doin' much with him right away though since my SG is doing a new toon thing that'll start next week.
Till then, I might experiment with some other builds. I like having AR on the Defender side...I might actually roll another one. Have the blaster AR values been applied to the defender AR, or was there some nerfage (I'd imagine that there was....heaven forbid we have a feasible defender *SARCASM*)
My main Controller, Joe Everyman, I haven't had a chance to play with yet. Since he's a Natural, using gadgets and slight of hand to distract his foes, I was thinking of trying to choose really dark, saturated colors with him, and try to make his powers very subtle, almost like a No FX look. He's got to wait until I finish with some other characters, though.
I have a new Controller, though, Genie Gold, who is supposed to be the teammate of my two mains Jade Dragon and Blue Diamond. I rarely played her before, but recently I got her into an SG, and she's leveled to 32 really fast. She's Illusion/Rad, and like the other two characters I mentioned, her powers are supposed to be tied to her color, yellow-orange. Her costume is very distinctively that color as well, so I definately wanted to tie her costume and powers all together in a single theme.
Plus, concept-wise, she controls the air around her to create effects. So I figured a gold glow effect, combined with Rad's gaseous look would be perfect, and in fact it looks great.
For the Primary, I went for a very deep golden color, more orange than yellow, and her Spectral Terror and Phantasm (which I got last night and got to test out) both look incredible. I had other teammates commenting on it too. Spectral Wounds also made a very bright golden halo around my targets, from the "skull faces". Between that and my Secondary, it was very obvious who I was targetting. I also found it interesting that although I took Invisibility from the Pool and not my Secondary, because I wanted Phase Shift, both that and Phase Shift really matched the color scheme. I don't know whether it was because when the animation first started it was somehow tinted by my aura (when I had Accellerate Metabolism going) or Invisibility is naturally yellowish before it turns whiter once the transparency effect kicks in.
As for my Secondary, since I had already discovered Radiation can be very bright from playing with another character, I used some more saturated tones. Sure enough, it cut down on the brightness, and made it look more like clouds. Enervating Field and Choking Cloud really look like clouds now, they're bright enough to be visible, but except for the aura around the anchor (which is REALLY obvious now) they don't glow. My Accelerate Metabolism and Radiant Aura, though, really glow, and look very much like the Illusion effects. It really ties the whole thing together.
Anyway, I've very satisfied with the look. It definately makes her a lot more fun to play, as she doesn't look like she's just cobbled together from unrelated abilities, it all fits the same theme. And she really does look like she has some sort of genie powers, which I suppose is the point.
The new /Cold set I have not tried, however, I have an Earth/FF Controller that I may decide to recreate as an Earth/Cold, and then recolor the shields and other powers to make it look more like the Earth Primary. I'm not sure how well it would work, I'd have to try it out. (Plus, he's in a level pact, and I'm not sure if he's over level 5 yet, if he is, I'd have to break it, or recreate the character he's pacted with)
My main is a Mind Control / Trick Arrow controller. So yeah...uhm...my brain wave effects that I never see because my character stands in front of them are...okay I got no benefit from power customization. Oh well.
I'll get around to rolling a Gravity / Cold eventually, I think. I'll probably go with a blue and grey color scheme for both sets, I'm still not sure. I'm thinking Wormhole + Sleet might be fun, and might work well with the other AoE powers also.
I put a cowboy hat on my fire/storm and colored all my storm powers to look dusty/dirty and my fire powers to look like dirt.
I was pleasantly surprised how well steamy mist turned out to look like I was kicking up dust/dirt as I ran around.
I recolored the kin colors to be more representative of what they do on my plant/kin. ie transference is very blue now, fulcrum is angry red, transfusion has a lot more green to it, but I haven't done anything to plant as of yet.
I've wanted to play a cold troller for quite some time and I'll probably end up making it a fire/cold. I just have to settle on a build that I like in mids before i get cracking and decide what I ultimately want the toon to accomplish.
I was a little bit sad that for w/e reason I have full color spectrum on my defenders freezing rain on my storm/son (ie can make it red/yellow/bright green w/e), but on my storm troller it only gives options for drab flavorless colors.
I haven't rolled anything new yet, but I'm thinking of Ice/Cold. It's the only Control set I haven't been able to play past 10 or so. On the other hand, I want to save Cold for a Necro/Cold MM someday.
As for the customizing, I've changed my Grav/Rad to pale blue and white to make Radiation into Time Manip. I've given my Ill/Thermal the Mirage treatment, with firey illusions (Orange Blind looks fantastic with an orange fiery eye aura). My Plant/Kin had her plants brightened, and her Kinetics are a light green shade now. It looks much better for her Lifeforce manipulation powers. My Fire/Sonic is probably going to stick with the default sonic colours, although I find the Orange/Yellow Bright Fire looks better than the default, so I may alter that a bit.
I haven't played around with Weatherby yet, but I want to see haw he fairs against 8 man spawns.
So far I've just been customizing one slot per character; then skipping to the next to see what I can do.
My Earth/Storm Nerys, who is supposed to be a Sidhe now has powers that are all purple and red and blue, with crystal themed Earth powers. Her purple and blue crystal golem looks quite cool.
My Earth/Sonic Voice of the Earth got dark yellow crystal Earth powers mostly.
My Fire/Storm Hound of Souls got red Steamy Mists, yellow-orange Hurricane, and Dark Fire themed blood red imps with black fire.
Crystalflame my new Fire/Cold has white/pale blue fire effects, for a "white hot" look.
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Question: I haven't been able to log in or test I16 yet... are the color changes visible to all, or just on the local client a la Propel objects?
I changed the look of the radiation on my Fire/Rad to more closely match the original fire color from the primary. It looks like 'thermal' radiation

My first move was to add some green into the ice powers of my Ice/Rad, "Fre0n." Because freon is bluish-green?

Ive customised some of my 'trollers so far, not all of them yet though. My Grav/Storm I have just customised his powers to match his costume more than anything else (although his original cossie has classic powers). I really like how Steamy Mist and Hurricane look customised and how Singularity looks
My Mind/TA has just had his Mind powers tinted to match his costume which is subtle but effective. Shame I could customise some of his arrow effects to do the same (e.g. blue flames on oil slick!)
My Illusion/FF I have only very quickly played around with (for the dance party) but that is going to be blast to do!
Not sure what I am going to do with my Plant/Kin, Fire/Thermal or Earth/Rad yet. Although my Earth/Rad is a kitten character with Radioactive kitty litter so may use the lava effects with that!
I have rolled an Ice/Cold controller which I like the look of in terms of the build I played around with. I made her colours a turquoise/green shade which I like the took of.
I have also rolled a Grav/Sonic controller whos concept is that he is an ex-raver so his powers are all a mix of blues and pinks. I will admit I love the look of the big sonic bubble when its got two opposite shades. Oh his singularity is going to be his disco ball
My Mind/Emp, each of her slots look pretty radically different from each other (even to the point of wild variations in size), and I've given each slot different colors. Each slot is a different person she's taken into herself, with different backstories.
My Fire/Rad, I've found a very interesting dark black/purple/green that looks nastily poisonous. Essentially, she's in a suit to keep her dangerous essences from leaking out and corroding/poisoning/burning/consuming whatever it might come into contact. Her powers are her making use of this hazardous essence.
Not entirely decided on my Grav/Storm (probably bright, strange purple-and-blue mixes for a strange robot) or my Earth/Therm (if I decide to keep her as Earth/Therm).
I was pleasantly surprised how well steamy mist turned out to look like I was kicking up dust/dirt as I ran around.

That dirt-colored steamy mist gives me another idea. Someone could make a fun Pig-Pen (Peanuts) homage with that in mind. Maybe you could do Fire/Storm with the Fire Imps colored yellow to resemble the little birds. Several times they were depicted interacting with Pig-Pen's stench. All the storm powers would be brown. Nice!
Of course, names would have to be changed to protect the not-so-innocent.

Previously in the game I've had a frame to tell backstories to explain the existing power combinations. I'm not so sure I'm good at the other way around--making a story then coming up with powersets to match.
I did make a snot/earwax mutant controller though. Really didn't have to tint the sonic bubbles much at all.
Also have done an elec/sand (dark) scrapper, whose early dark armor looks pretty sharp.

I did my Ill/Rad powers bright white/white for his primary (Magician) costume. Click Hover, then macro that turns on Superior Invis and changes to costume #2 (floating Spectre) and his powers go dark purple.
Thinking about using the other costume slots for other "Illusions". Maybe green powers with lizard setup, red powers / fire demon, etc... all switched with /cce <slot> <emote> commands.
So yeah, I love the changes.
The ability to use a bind or macro that activates a power and changes the costume at the same time opens a lot of possibilities.
Only messed around with my 50 Earth/Storm/Earth so far, and I'm honestly a little underwhelmed.
My character has an eco-themed backstory, so there really hasn't been too much to change. I might have to change my character concept a bit to get a little more adventurous with color tweaks. I do like the crystal graphics for the stone cages, though (Fossilize and Stoney look "alright" in crystal.) Storm, there really isn't much to customize and still make sense from my point of view.
I'm also disappointed that power pools can't be customized, that would have gone a long way to meshing power pools into primary sets for a lot of my characters. I hate the graphic for hasten, for example.

Just wanted to give people a chance to talk about their new /cold trollers and give their thoughts and also let people praise/vent about any power customization on their trollers.
I made an Illusion/Cold played it to lvl 9. I also got my 5 year badge last month which is really helping with the build (no travel pre-req!). Early on the extra control of snow storm really feels nice with blind and deceive. At ten I'll have both of my def. shields and the teens will be used for utility junk as usual (stamina/travel) but can't wait for my blue and white themed PA at 18. Overall I think it's going to play like /storms more behaved cousin, the extra controls will go nicely with Illusion and the build will be pretty darn team friendly.
As far as power customization goes all I have to say is: lava themed earth control. /e drool.......... My Ill/thermal now has "orange/yellow fiery looking illusion to go with the flames of thermal and they look great together. I also tweaked my plant troller and dom (you can make the flytrap look pretty psychodelic if you want) to fit their themes. I didn't do anything on my fire trollers yet, that will be today.
So how about you?
