What, they weren't allowed to team in MA?
I wonder what all that broadcast chatter was about, then. Having a lot of players concentrated in a small area like Atlas creates many more grouping and socializing possibilities than having those same players spread out across a bunch of different zones. Why would it? The rather draconian changes to custom enemies seems more likely to discourage the participation of story-driven authors than otherwise. You didn't like MA farms- great. Don't pretend that getting rid of them will usher in some incredible golden age of teaming and authoring. All it did was shuffle players around the game world, it did nothing to change their basic predispositions. |
I don't expect a golden age of authoring, but the farm maps should fall to wayside, like wheat from the chafe.
As for teaming, I think teaming outside of MA will only get better -- whether you want to call that a second golden age is up to you. The fact is, not everyone wanted to grind MA farms or even grind radio missions. Crazy, huh?

Personally, I love i16. I rolled a spines/DA scrapper a couple of weeks before i16 and with the help of power customization, he looks amazing now. And I was becoming increasingly annoyed with the lack of normal, non-AE teams. But with the changes brought in with i16, I've already done 2 TFs and it's just so much easier to find teams.
If they don't have some new map layouts i'm just going to be sad. So very sad. The Tyrant should have a palace, not a cave with a throneroom.

Sometimes, when I see the "Meh" posts, I want to ask:
-What would it have taken for you to be impressed with this issue?
-Would you still have found something to give negative feedback to even if the issue gave you everything you wanted?
-Are you just a person that is very hard to please?
Now I understand that some people will leave the game to try out something new. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, so the question is more or less directed at those who never seem to be impressed with any issue.
(I don't mind the lack of new content, as there are countless AE arcs to play, not counting the farms, but I really wish that the Coming Storm would get some attention. I am still pissed off at SNK for not finishing the storyline in The King Of Fighters 12. I really wanted to know who this "unseen master" of the storyline was.....but that is another story.)

Right, because all those dead farm arcs are going to magically vanish from the list now.
Way back in the old days, we DID have games that went on forever (as long as you had the skill and patience). Examples include Pong, Pac-Man, Gorf, and so on...

I am still waiting for the console RPG that does this for me. (Jade Cocoon had an infinite-level endgame dungeon for example.) Unless there are some others that I don't know about......

Which would be unfortunate, since the CoH buildings look awful and are just there. Aside from doors to missions they offer nothing to reward someone for clicking around doors.

The players sucks.
Blame it on the AE, blame it on the I16, after all, its just this 'anti' vibe who is pulling the game down.
Did i participate? yes.
Did i started it? no.
I thought we were talking about mission maps, not the actual zone buildings?

Unless u dunno about the game mechanics, i got a few time b4 im completely deleated, and i want to give what it took me 4 years to get, to the next cool dude.
I gave about ..a lot... now, if you feel like a harcore MF, man, have fun, i endorsed enough, so plz, leave me be, if i want to give without restrictions 5 lines of purps, that means 1,4 billion in 2 mns, who are you to even talk to me? do so, then come bk.

My thoughts in a nutshell: Meh.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good add-on, and much needed. However after playing for a few weeks on another [not to be named] super hero MMO, it's too little too late. And no I am not leaving CoH, I love this community, and as long as it's here, I will maintain a presence. Specifically, after over 5 years of asking for it, we finally got the changes to the animations of Super strength, so that a "punch" actually looks like a punch, and a "haymaker" looks like an haymaker. And I love the ground punch animation for Footstomp. However, in that other game's super strength, it's just soo much more. More powerfull looking, more powerfull feeling. Knockback that does additional damage. I could go on, but not here. I am looking forward to GR though, that should be very fun. I guess after 5+ years of almost continous play here, I need a break from it, a change of pace. |
Even with the necessary manning, things like this take a lot of time and work. I guess the poor devs didn't move fast enough for some people?
By the way......wasn't it Cryptic that decided not to implement PC in the first place anyway?
EDIT: A saying that I saw a lot from people that left was: "should have been in from the beginning." If every feature up to now had been in the game from the very start, would it have kept them from going to CO anyway? I wonder.

After playing for a couple of days, I have to say that I have mixed feelings about power recolouring. I REALLY like the option to recolour my powers, but at the same time... it's made the game look kind of ugly.
SSKing is awesome though. I love being able to level up while doing lower level TFs. I also enjoy the new difficulty settings, although I wish some of my non-melee alts could take better advantage of it.

Ouroboros? Same content but now repeatable et nauseum.
On top of all this, a 6 year old game engine (since its alpha/beta times) is buggier and laggier than heck on a machine that's running modern brand new games at full without flaws. New patch day brings (yay!) more lag and bugs.
I love CoH for teaming. Before issue 15ish I could find teams very quickly and I ran tons of TFs. About half-way through issue 15's life cycle folks started dropping off or did mainly farming. Searching, asking in /b and LFG channels I will run around for two hours now on Virtue and Freedom without finding a team that isn't farming. Yahoooo... I don't wanna hear about how I obviously don't know how to find teams since I've gotten 12 50s with no farming and all teaming.
TL;DR: Issue 16 is meh and way too little. Wish we'd get more REAL content Soon (tm).
People on these forums have been pretty consistently saying the game's dying since about... the first day of beta. Being the ones with the most interests in the game also means being the ones who bawl first if they don't like how something looks.

Story content. I15's sole TF per side was pretty weaksauce (and yeah, I do get that it was meant to be an anniversary treat, but here was one of the most requested characters in CoH/V lore and he gets a pretty lousy storyline and goes down like a chump. No build up, no excitement, just "Here's Reichsman, go show him a beat down"). A revamped zone. Something new to play through in a lore kind of way. New powersets for ATs - although exciting - aren't enough when I feel I've already played the content numerous times. And I'm a bit burned out on AE as well, which is why I wanted to see something dev created.
No. I try to keep an even hand on what I compliment and what I criticise. No. Just do what I say when I say it. And like it. I'm very easy to please if you do that. ;-) |
At least we know that story content and brand new powersets are on the way. Most people seem to be inept at exercising patience, however......hopefully, they find something to do to keep them satisfied until GR gets here.
I know Aion will do just that for me. Not that I'm planning on leaving this game, however.

I'm glad not to hear AE farm-spam quite so much. Farming will never die, but hopefully the biggest, silliest exploits will. Sure, the AE needed to provide XP, but 1-50 in a few hours was too much, IMO.
I've taken the opportunity to play with the power customization a bit and like it, but will only do it for a small portion of my characters, since the original colors are just fine.
Opting out of email from strangers, with the option to opt out of ALL email? I like it quite a bit, and was a vocal supporter of this. I'm surprised it's only character by character, but that's okay.
The new difficulty sliders? Awesome. I can truly face the foes that I wish to face. Freakshow x5, Malta x4? Heck yeah!
And I didn't notice a charge for the service.
And a self-heal for /Elec? I like.
I'm a PUG player -- always have been and had usually avoided AE. Grouping outside of AE was tougher but not impossible. From the likes of it, sounds like you grinded the same missions over and over again in AE with you group, regardless of what the story was. I'm hoping now that that inceitive is gone, we'll get some higher quality player made arcs that aren't rated highly because it was a farm.
