Is it that,or do you just want to not loose your ability to save "No" ober and over and over"

..and,i suppse that, just like AE farming,(May the high one bless it)people who refuse, and not team with each other constantly, over and over, and over,is one of the things ruining this game in my opinion, and also, people who ignore each others tells for teaming is another.

..and as far as being the one that people dont like to take team invites from,Lost Ninha?I'm not really a big fan of people to begin with Ninja. There loyalties and love are like granola bars..flaky.Who cares what they think,Ninja?

What would happen if people were to say no,over and over to suggestions made in thsi thread, like they do in the game?It would pretty much be decommissioned due to lack of interest.
It's called "criticism"

One of it's side effects is: It tends to point out how your idea isn't as awesome as you thought it was.

And no, I HAVEN'T gone through constant refusals from ANYONE, because I only team when I feel like it. I supposed that makes me a dirtbag liar?

What I got out of this, and the OP is a not-so-cleverly disguised version of "WAAAAAAH!! I CAN'T FIND A TEAM!! MAKE THEM TEAM WITH ME!!!"

Your idea is to force people to team that don't want to so they can get rewards for it, and it's a bad idea. As I'm sure you've noticed, this section of the forums is NOT shy about telling someone when their idea sucks.

I and many others, LIKE the fact that we are not required to be on a team to accomplish things. Your idea would kill the enjoyment people like us get out of doing things by ourselves.

Your next argument of "If you want to solo, play a single player console game" falls flat before you even make it. Even the most hardcore soloist enjoys playing on a team occasionally, which is impossible in a single player game.

You seem to have this notion that because you asked someone they HAVE to accept your invite. Wake up pal, it's not all about you.

Edit: Well said Sam. You were coming from the same place as me there....

...only you were a lot nicer about it. I'm honestly tired of being nice to people who have insulted me for disagreeing before I have even spoken.

Everyone in this thread is just shortsighted, dumb, or secretly wanting the terrorists to win. There's no other explanation.

The main problem is that the OP's suggestion didn't go far enough. Here is what he should have suggested:

1) When you start playing CoH, you are assigned a group of 7 perma-teammates. The "Quit Team" button will be removed. You may not quit your team. EVER. This will save loads of time and will help everyone realize the truth of the joy of teaming. (Also, it is polite to refer to your perma-teammates as "comrades". EDIT: except for whoever gets the star; refer to him/her as "Dear Leader".)

2) Because it may take a period of adjustment for people to realize how fun this really is, you will not be permitted to quit the game. EVER. NCsoft will just keep billing your credit card. Because it's fun. Even if you don't know it.

I am confident that these sensible proposals will, with time, come to be embraced by the proletariat, errr, player base.

Guys,im sorry, but I just noticed something.I made this thread yesterday, and it is above 24 posts. No major record,I understand, but even all of you wernt this quick to try and destroy AE for other players. It's as though you have something to hide, like, intentional poor teaming habits that make it bad for everyone else?

Heck, even on this thread, all I hear is "No" to teaming!

Wouldn't you agree that lack of teams,or teaming is destroying the game too?

Sure you all have rights to do as you wish in the game, whether it be nest,or whatever, but sooner or later you guys might find yourselves crying and complaining about not having a certain accolade for example, and certain accolades, like the respec trials, require, well golly!

Nope.

A) This game is not being "destroyed". It's still vibrant and lively. 100k subscribers is no small feat. Don't let WoW's numbers fool you; 100k used to be the pinnacle of achievement in this genre. It remains a damn fine accomplishment.

B) I see no lack of teams. You might not get teams for whatever reason, but I pretty much get a team any time I want one. Maybe you should try cultivating some contacts in the game rather than relying on random strangers?

So perhaps the problem here is that we're not Chicken Little, and we don't think the sky is falling.

Lack of teams might destroy the game... if there ever was one. Unfortunately* there isn't one.

Then you're a fool, to be blunt about it, one who needs to learn how to comprehend what's being said. Nobody in here has said anything close to "No to teaming." That there are times teaming is impractical? Yes. No to teaming with you, yes, but not "No to teaming."

Actually, no, I won't be. See, I have these funny things called "Friends" who happen to play the game*, as well as the in game character-centric and global friends *lists,* multiple supergroups and global channels. Some of them also have websites to plan and schedule events. I also realize that this is precisely that - a game - and that I don't happen to *need* anything related to it except the feeling of entertainment value for my money. When that no longer exists, I'm no longer in the game.

Quote:

There's that attitude again. Think that may, potentially, be part of the reason people don't team with you? Besides, if you didn't care, why did you bother to make the post in the first place?

*and several others, which we jump between often - sometimes on the same night. L4D is a favourite "everyone get together after our various days at work and slaughter stuff" one. Even if we're not playing the same thing, we're usually talking to each other via IM. Perhaps you should look into making some friends of your own.

You can't read. People are writing no forced teaming or penalties for not teaming.

The game is not being destroyed as long as ideas like yours do not get implemented.

To be honest I think your suggestion too draconian. Theres a lot to the game other than teaming. People play how they want to as is their right, they are paying for it after all.

One point though

Yes it is, but there may be a reason they are ignoring you.

If they are updating their Cossie the can't see their chat window.

If they have Dc'd they can't see their chat window.

If they have a slow connection/machine and are zoning they can't see their chat window.

If their 2 year old has thrown up on the keyboard they don't want to type at the moment (yes it has happened).

They might be looking at their Global chat channels window instead of their chat window.

And so on.

OR they might be a jerk who doesn't reply to tells.

If they're a jerk do you want to team with them?

If they have a problem or can't see the chat window they'll eventually get back to you, how about a little patience?

Sam - well, they are polite, which is certainly a positive. I often am simply not in the mood for a team, myself.

Hypocrites,I say.
Ignoring a tell is everyone's prerogative. Just because you call my phone number does not require me to answer it. Even if you leave a voice mail, I am not required to respond - unless I happen to work for you, of course :-)

There are plenty of incentives to team already. Badges, xp bonus, faster kill speeds, taking on tougher missions than one can solo, etc. As well as occasionally the dream team, where there is some semblance of wit in the discourse and skill in the tactics, which for me makes up for any number of less satisfying teams when I run into it.

Time Limit.

I know you all have been here before,so dont try to deny it.

To those players who dont join up with there team,or dont respond once you invite them, you could start a clock upon this player, and if the player dosent respond or join you inside the mission in five minutes, they are automatically kicked from the team.

I jsut believe that there are people out there who just join a team and do nothing to drive the team elader and his loyal members crazy.
I have such a timer already - there is a clock visible at the bottom of my screen (I play in windowed mode). I understand there are also free-standing chronological devices...clicks? clacks? something like that...some of which are even man-portable.

The silent-but-absent team member (or, fair's fair, team leader) is indeed rude, and deserves kicking, or quitting, but once you automate something (and add the opt out button you have to remember to hit to exempt someone, plus the fine tuning when someone finds a means to circumvent the basic algorithm, etc. etc.) it increases the degree to which people must trouble themselves as often as it improves things.

Social issues (which this is) are best handled by social solutions (eg. leader glances at clock, check's absent member's location, sends one last tell or team message, waits 10 more seconds, and kicks) not technological ones. Engineering is great for deterministic systems, lousy for social ones.

Even if there were a lack of teams (which there isn't) it would not be destroying the game for me.

Ineffective attempt to demonize opposing points of view, ineffective attempt to play the victim card.

Knowing what would happen if I used the kind of language this inspires, I'll refrain in an effort to keep my account.

I will simply say, instead, that you can keep your freakin' paws off my playstyle. I like to solo. I pay my money just like you do. When I team it's always on my terms and I'm never afraid to hit the quit button or the kick button. Please feel very free to never invite me to a team. If I ever get on a team with anyone having your attitude, I'd quit in a heartbeat.

As far as I'm concerned, the teaming aspect of this game is entirely secondary. They could do away with teaming altogether and I'd still play. I'm sure there are a ton more people like me out there. Teaming is fun once in a while, but mostly I prefer to solo.

I second SwellGuy's comment: the game is not being destroyed unless your idea gets implemented.

It's as though your idea is stupid. Inventing imaginary hidden agendas and ascribing traits to other people that they don't have, just so that you can then argue against and successfully defeat a position they never took is very much the definition of a straw man. Feel free to keep trash-talking, just as long as you're aware you're not actually talking about anything or anyone who actually exists.

That's the way this forum works. Bad suggestions get decently large threads, good suggestions get a little activity and usually fall away into obscurity.

Bad suggestions usually wind up large because the OP feels the need to come back and defend his idea, then attack the detractors so that he doesn't need to spend any effort refining his idea to make it better. This leads the detractors to point out what the OP is doing, the OP counters, and so it goes. Thus, spectacularly bad ideas live a long time, and grow quickly, just like this one.

Good suggestions usually get a few posts of positive response, and since nobody is arguing about anything, once everyone's piece has been said, the thread gets left alone and fades into relative obscurity.

I tend to team up with 3-4 people all the time, mostly just my friends, because our playstyle is compatible. Dave has little kids in his house; he often has to make us wait while he's putting one to bed, or feeding them dinner, or making them stop hitting each other with rocks. Joe is a nurse and is often "on call" and may have to leave the team without warning. Jon likes to stop and chat with people on IRC. Are these the people you want to team with?

If teaming were required, then lack of teams could destroy the game. Most of us who have replied in this thread don't seem to have the same trouble finding teams that you do. This leads me to believe that the problem exists between your keyboard and your chair, and not the other players.

And when I've needed a team, I've found one. Most of the time, except for certain task forces and trials, I've really only needed one other person, maybe two, to back me up. I responded to a cry for help just the other day while playing on Guardian, and all the help he needed was me (actually, I'm fairly confident I could have solo'd all three of the missions, provided he stayed in range so that I stayed lackeyed to him. I'm not sure what was giving him trouble, but I was happy to help.)

OP:

No, we just don't want to team with jerks like yourself - because if this is the way you behave here where you're expected to be reasonably civil (since of course, this is a somewhat permanent record unlike chat) I'm sure that your behavior in the game is far worse and hardly even warrants the polite responses you've gotten to turn your team offers down.

I don't team often. But when I do, it's with a group of people that I enjoy playing with. I'm on a global channel that really is amazing, and while most of us *do solo*, we immediately come to the aid of those in need. Why?

Because we're friendly, nice, and polite. We dont' make demands like "better be here on time or else" and "you're a dirtbag liar because you declined my team invite".

It's just you. Everyone else in the game is teaming. They just won't team with YOU.
