That only applies to someone that looks where to spend money before learning how to make money. They are destined to be poor with that outlook and deserve no sympathy. All a newblette has to do is discover the market value for arcane salvage and be reasonably well off for the rest of his or her existence.

Perhaps... Still, I suspect that "Sticker Shock" happened to most of us the first time
(especially those, like me, who weren't here when the Market first released in I9).

I can completely sympathize with that feeling.

What I completely fail to understand is the folks who refuse to move past it,
and LEARN...

After all, simple logic (sh|w)ould dictate that *somebody* is paying those prices.

Why not learn how to become *that* guy???

This^^^ right here. If people looked at the "holy crap" prices as what people were willing to PAY (which is what they are) instead of how much everything actually cost (which is what they aren't), people would be a lot happier. Sell stuff above the last five, buy stuff below the last five.

I agree that's the other mystery.

ie. How people only tend to see the "BUY" side of the equation...

I suspect for that mythical casual gamer the higher percentage of time *they*
interact with the market is in Buy-Mode (ie. they just got a level and only
then do they think of the market). However, they are only in the "Let's grab
some shinies" mindset during that time.

That in itself is fine, but what they also should do is cultivate the Sell-Mode
for all *other* times while they're earning their levels.

As a percentage of time spent, the far higher percentage is spent gaining levels
(for me, at least), rather than equipping newly earned levels. During the levelling
timeframe my default thinking is always SELL. By the time I get to Buy-mode,
the cash is already in-hand. <shrug>

Playing a new blaster, running 'real' contact missions (I swept past Atlas and picked up in Kings at level 6), selling everything for 1 inf. Hit level 11 last night, sitting on 500k inf. And this is with fighting nothing but skulls and lost the past few levels- I've had a belly full of stupid Boresights.

I haven't bought anything, haven't needed to. Slotting whatever trainings drop + 'beginners luck' = plenty of firepower to deal with stock content.

If you play 'normally' you're going to generate a TON more stuff than you'll use. Sell it, reap the rewards, then buy what you want. It's never been easier.

Unless you dream of an Uber Build bulging with +recharge, you'll have all the inf you'll ever need before you can even slot level 25 enhancements.

Agreed with Nether. It all depends on what you want to slot on your powers, as to how much stuff costs.

If all you want are SO's, then WW and inf isn't really for you. What else do you need inf for since a level 50 can fully slot SO's for 5-10mil.

If you want commons, it's a little higher, and you may need to use WW for some extra inf.

When it comes to "sets", then you'll need to farm and/or play WW alot. (imo)

90% of my toons are "setted". My inf has came from selling the higher recipes, like purps, and using above par sets like Oblit's and Posi's. The purps i have used came from drops and have 19 on one toon atm. (fire/kin, if u didn't guess. lol) But that's me.

I would convert it to gold coins, build a tower vault, and dive and swim it on an hourly basis.

To be honest, they don't care, its virtual money to them.

Reason I barely touch this game anymore, one biggest reasons, would be the market, I just dont care anymore, I don't farm & despise it, so when I think, hmm lets get a recipe of some sort, oooh nevermind, -log off-

All the more reason to not care. It's just virtual money, if you're getting all worked up about it there are probably bigger things at play.

You say those words, and they form sentences that I can parse and comprehend, but the concept behind them makes no sense. Let me list the things that make it incomprehensible.

1) The game never used to have a market or the things you can buy there. Yet because the market and the things you can buy there was added and you feel (I'm interpreting here) that they are inaccessible, you no longer touch the game. And yet, you didn't have the market or the things available there before, so they were inaccessible then too. Why did adding something that (you think) you can't use make the game less enjoyable than when you didn't have that thing?

2) You are trying to use the market as a store. It's not. If you want a store, you should go visit Cooke's Electronics, Future Dynamics or Ghost Falcon, and they'll gladly sell you SOs. The market, in contrast to a store, is a place where you bid on goods listed by other players. To earn enough to meet their minimum bids, consider selling things you get at the prices they do. If you are unwilling to do so, you need to see bullet (1).

3) Farming is only one way to meet the minimum bid levels other players on the market are setting. See (2) above. You can also earn money by pying TFs or story arcs (possibly in Ouroboros) and spend merits either on random rolls or high-value recipes, which you then sell on the market. You can also play in the AE, spend tickets on Bronze or Gold rolls, and then sell those on the market for profit. Finally, you can earn common IO memorization badges and sell common IOs for hundreds of thousands of inf.

I think there's something else at play. First, as I've stated, you think you have no access to something when it's simply not true. If you really are this dispassionate about playing, I think you have other reasons, because the reason you have given simply has no sense to it.

Well I guess it's real money for the inf farmers and people who buy from them.

Please take the time to learn how to solve your own problem rather than taking the time to request that someone else solve it for you. If you got a money problem learn how to fix it rather than requesting someone else to fix your problem. There are peeps that are making mad money in this game, and they have posted there techniques in the forms. Please educate yourself and apply what you learn and you will have more money than you know what to do with. It will take time, but so does everything worth doing.

I have a simple question;

Are you trying to kill the game?

Prices from 250,000,000 to 400,000,000 on Purple sets, and certain Procs are absolutely outrageous.

Respec Recipe 200,000,000?

Normal players of this game can not come close to affording these prices. Are you trying to force them to the Spam Sites?

Are you a source of Influence/Infamy for the Spam Sites?

What gives?

I have several 50's and have enjoyed playing them, and IO'ing them.

I just created a new toon, and at your current Market Pricing, she'll never get IO'd out.

You think peeps will keep playing when they can't IO their toons?

Whats up with this?
Aside from purples and pvp recipes you simply dont need the market. For the most part its just there for the marketeer's amusement. I havent used the market in ages because things have gotten so bad. Just farm merits if you want recipes, create an AE arc tailored to your powerset if you want salvage. Thats pretty much what I do and I come out some what ok. As for as respec recipes go, with all the free respecs we have gotten I cant see why anyone needs a respec so badly these days, not to mention we still got the respec trials that can be done.
