But based on everyone's thoughts, I don't think the CPU switch out would help much.
If you're looking to reduce performance degradation when running two instances I would recommend the /maxinactivefps command. It limits the maximum FPS on whichever instance is in the background. I personally use /maxinactivefps 5 (you can choose whatever number you want as your fps limit). I enable it in both instances and when I alt-tab between them the background one drops to 5 fps.

If you're not already using it, this command may help tide you over until you can afford a more meaningful upgrade to your mobo/CPU.
  3. Well, "harder" is pretty subjective; it could mean many different things to different people.

In short, yes it does get harder. The enemies gain new powers and abilities, as well as doing more damage and being harder to kill. Keep in mind, though, you can adjust the difficulty at a field analyst, upping the number of enemies you face at once, or their level, or both.

    Difficulty adjustments

    Edit: Too slow...
  4. The Venture Brothers.

Pop culture references (though often slightly obscure ones), intelligent, the occasional fart joke...that covers most of your criteria.

Just a great, great show. 4 existing seasons, and it was just picked up for 2 more.
  5. First time I've been able to connect in about 4 days. And was having intermittent trouble before that for about a week. It's getting quite frustrating. I sure hope someone at Paragon/NCSoft is looking into it...

Thanks, UberGuy, for investigating this. Your work is appreciated.

Also get the FF+rech proc in foot stomp.
You will easily be able to support end costs with the spirit alpha; this build you listed of course won’t be able to run any of the content to unlock it.
Last but certainly not least: rech, rech, rech, rech, rech, rech and then more rech. Shooting for fire def is waste. Insp can give you def/dmg/end/healing/etc. the one thing they can’t give you is global recharge. On a "cost-is-no-concern" farm-only build i say 130% rech (140%ish if you REALLY dont care about cost is possible as well) from sets is about what you want.
It seems to me that one only really needs as much recharge as it takes to get a seamless attack chain of FS/Burn/EF/BL and any more would be of questionable value, especially in light of the diminishing returns on higher and higher levels of recharge. Anyone know how to calculate attack chains? How much recharge per power is needed for seamlessness?

I re-jiggered my build for the absolute maximum amount of recharge and came up with 213.8% total global recharge. It would be obscenely expensive, lol. With a very rare Spiritual it would knock around 4.5 seconds off the recharge of Fiery Embrace and between 0.4 and 0.8 seconds off of Burn, Footstomp, Ball Lightning, and Electrifying Fences.

I'll be honest, Im not sure if those gains are worth the tradeoffs in survivability, end reduction, and price. At least in theory. Perhaps those gains really make all the difference in practice. Perhaps the difference in defense really isn't that big a deal. (I hate having to keep track of too many things at once so I figured some extra defense would slow the rate of incoming damage enough to allow some leeway on watching my health bar.)

I have a feeling this is the sort of thing that can only really be decided by actually playing with the two builds. Yay for test server!

  7. Here's my attempt at a cost-is-no-concern farm build. I'd really like some feedback from the SS/FA/Mu experts in this thread, as I have never run one before. I managed 166.3% global recharge, 32.6% fire defense (capped with one small Luck), pretty good end reduction on the big hitters, and decent HP/max end/regen/recov. Considering I have Consume slotted for end mod (giving me a net recovery of 4.35 eps) could I get away with the Spiritual alpha? Folks upthread were recommending Cardiac. Should I forgo some of the fire defense in exchange for more recharge?

I haven't ever run one of these highly specialized farms/farmers before. All my farming experience has been on my purpled WS and my softcapped/high-recharge Elec/SD scrapper. Any ideas/thoughts/comments on the build are welcome.

  8. After going back and rereading your OP I realized I should try to address your issue with Grav Well and human attack chains.

My basic attack pattern on my WS is eclipse > human mire > dwarf mire > grav well a minion > unchain essence > quasar/stygian circle/nova blasts/summon extraction (whichever is appropriate). I have around 205% recharge, though, so my key powers are either perma or up just about every group. I basically use grav well to one-shot a target for unchain, then switch to res-capped nova for the whole death-from-above schtick. I will also fire off a grav well on a hard target when I drop to human to refresh my human mire. I use grav well as a hold to take out troublesome enemies (sappers, illusionists, etc.)

Would it be nice to be able to use grav well as part of a proper attack chain? Absolutely. Creating that attack chain...well...there's the rub. It would involve using precious slots on somewhat weak human attacks. A human-form build can be used to great effect, but IMO isn't as effective overall as a tri-form.

Don't sweat not being able to use grav well every time it's up, IOW.
  9. A few first-glance suggestions:

First and foremost I would suggest slotting for more recharge set bonuses. Recharge is crucial for Warshades. Getting Eclipse perma will do amazing things to your survivability. Getting less than 41 seconds downtime on Hasten will be really noticeable, too.

You could free up a lot of slots by forgoing the extra slots in health and stamina. Stygian Circle really obviates the need for regen and recovery. Also, Dwarf Drain is a pretty anemic attack as well as a mediocre heal. I'm not sure I would six-slot it, personally. I have found that when things start going sideways on my 'shade Drain usually doesn't do much to keep me alive.

I fiddled with your build for a bit and was able to get Eclipse and Hasten perma. However it comes at a significant sacrifice to max HP. I think perma Eclipse is definitely worth it, but you may feel otherwise.

Dwarf Mire is a great AoE attack as well as a buff, so I slotted it up.

I changed some of your one-slotted power picks, too, taking Stealth, Invis and Grant Invis as LoTG mules. I grabbed SS, too, to stack with Shadow Cloak for attack-capable invis, allowing you to position yourself for Eclipse/Mires.

Also, I noticed that all the enhancements you have slotted are level 30, even enhancements that don't contribute to bonuses. Was this intentional? I erred on the side of caution and assumed it was, so everything that contributes a set bonus is level 30. Stuff that doesn't give a set bonus I bumped up to lvl 50.

Almost forgot...Grav Em and Dark Extraction are using purple slotting at first glance. However if you shift-right click those powers it will switch to significantly less expensive slotting (at the cost of perma Hasten).

I tried to get stuff perma for the lowest inf cost I could. Keep in mind that if you are willing to throw large sums of cash at this build you can get perma with minimal sacrifices to other bonuses and slotting.

I hope this is useful to you!

EDIT: Almost forgot! If you haven't seen it yet, check out Dechs Kaison's great WS guide: The MFing Warshade (A Tri-Form Guide)

  10. I only glanced at the build very briefly but right off the bat I would recommend re-jiggering a few slots so that you can six-slot Build Up with the Gaussian's set. That will get you 2.5% defense to all three positions. It's one of the biggest bang-for-the-defense-bonus-buck sets out there. That would allow you to potentially drop some of the sets you have slotted for defense bonuses and replace them with sets granting recharge bonuses.

Also, I don't know how much you are planning to use Jacob's Ladder, but that Oblit set you have in there gives very little end reduction. I would recommend slotting any Oblits you decide to use in either Lightning Rod or Shield Charge, since they are on a longer recharge and consequently won't impact your blue bar as much.

I am going to log in and play so I apologize for not giving more in-depth advice. Here's my current (ridiculously expensive) elec/sd build. It might give you some ideas. I'll try to check back in later, but others will likely come and give helpful advice.

  12. Taunt is autohit and has a 5 target limit. The proc has a 20% chance to fire on any foe hit by taunt. It is entirely possible for it to hit more than one target.

Chilling Embrace is also autohit, but as it is a toggle power the Impeded Swiftness proc will only have a chance to fire every 10 seconds on foes in range.

Taunt auras do not accept taunt IO sets, so no Zinger proc in Chilling Embrace.

If you put a proc in a power with a to-hit check then the proc activation is also governed by said to-hit check.

    Hope this answers your questions!
  13. I had the same problem with the game choking on big AoEs. It was frustrating because I have a pretty beefy rig (OCd i7 920, GTX 285, 6GB ram). Adding CoX to MSE's exceptions completely solved my problems.

    Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Could you maybe explain why this solves the problem (in not-too-technical terms)? I am quite curious...
  14. Well, the next time you are on a team and are not the leader you could try to enter the team leader's base (assuming he/she has a base and has the permissions set to allow teammates to enter).

I am most assuredly not a computer expert, but I suspect that requiring the game to load new base information does something to clear up the problem with your base. All I can say with confidence is I could not enter my base even after following much of the advice in this and other threads. But I entered my friend's base on the first try and was immediately able to enter my own base.
  15. Last week I was having the exact same base issues you described. It was definitely something on my computer because my teammate (whose SG I am coalitioned with) could access my base (he helpfully muled a few purples out of storage for me so I could respec a character).

There were a few other threads here and there over this issue that also suggested verifying files, deleting the checksum file and letting the downloader rebuild it, etc. I tried all of these, to no avail.

Oddly enough, what finally fixed the problem for me was loading into a coalition base. I entered my friend's base, no problem. Upon exiting, I could use my base and haven't had a problem since. I hope it works for you!
  16. Scrapper AAO is very good, and will keep most enemies from running.

That being said, however, the 1-2 punch of built up LR and SC will cause surviving enemies' morale to break really easily. If survivors aren't actively in AAO's radius they do tend to run a bit. Try to wait for the enemies to cluster a bit before you wipe them out and you will minimize runners.
  17. Mr_Enigma

    Unusual but fun?

Well, it doesn't exactly fit your criteria, but you might consider a tri-form warshade.

Warshades are chock full of awesome powers that are visually appealing (if you like purple, at least), really powerful, and that use unusual mechanics (all the corpse-powered ones). And those powers are distributed throughout the level spread, so every few levels you are getting a new power that totally changes the way the character plays.

Warshades - particularly triformers - function best when all the different utility powers are synergizing with each other. It is not a mindless, button-mashing AT. They are a ton of fun to play right on the edge of total defeat (as long as you aren't allergic to some debt here and there).

Dechs Kaison's terrific guide "The MFing Warshade" is a great handbook for making the most of a triform WS:

FWIW, the GvE Jump Jet power will cap Hover's speed for 30 seconds. Can be useful if you are between lvl 6 and 14 with no "real" travel power.

Although now - with inherent swift and hurdle - Ninja Run is really, REALLY good.

Don't worry, all this information is getting compiled into the guide. I'm in the process of writing a section on how to build your own death machine on any budget.

I'm still going to recommend more recharge from the Alpha, but I won't be so negative about the others.
    Civility? In MY internet?

    Ooh, good call...

That inherent fitness thread is pretty remarkable, too.
  24. This thread is the gift that keeps on giving.

In my 6 1/2 years in CoH I have never seen one poster so hell-bent on ignoring arguments counter to his views, no matter how thoughtfully, cogently, and thoroughly those arguments are presented. It's almost admirable, his steadfast devotion to his original viewpoint.

    Almost...
  25. So, I want to take my scrapper redside to get the Mu patron pool set. I'd then like to return to blueside. What, if anything, will happen to my current (blueside) open missions upon my return?

I have a few missions I like to rerun for fun and profit and just want to verify that they will still be available when I return to hero status.

    Thanks in advance!
