Forum not loading problem back.

Had to flush the dns a few times to get on. Similar to what happened here...

For the past two days I've been experiencing immediate "can not find page" where the browser isn't even looking. That gets fixed with ipconfig /flushdns in a Command Window.

But the hanging on loading doesn't get fixed with a DNS flush.

Switching from Firefox to IE doesn't help, either.

I have the same problem Zombie. I'm now up at the public library and got on but gave up after an hour at home. The pages partially load, adblock shows me that several elements are loaded, namely vBulletin scripts but then nothing. I did get to the tech board once but hung when I tried to login.

This is annoying the crap out of me.

I'm also going to chime in on this one. I've been having this problem more on than off over the last two days. This is a major irritation for me since I participate in the RP boards and write and join in with the others. It's problematic when I go to post and can't because the page hangs, doesn't load, or otherwise throws an error.

I haven't tried the dns flushing - about to try that now - but wanted to make sure others knew it was affecting more than 2 people.

Posting from phone since that's the only way I can access the forums. Same deal here on my desktop and laptop not able to access the webpages at all. Not even billing at plaync for that matter.

I also noticed the "website" area of the NCSoft launcher is blank saying website not available.

This is extremely frustrating. The forums seem to load today more consistently- after waiting 5+ minutes to change screens....

I just wanted to note that flushing dns did not help in any way for me. I am also experiencing this on multiple computers at home, but this is the only website I am having problems with, so I don't think it's from anything here at home. Very irritating...

I'm having zero issues with the forums, and haven't had any issues since they transitioned to this new board, so it's definitely not a universal issue.

I'd still like to see the output of some pings/tracerts when it's not working and when it is for the people that have issues... it might shed some light on what's going on.

Not possible for me. I am only able to access the forums (and account info) from my cellphone currently. And I am not manually typing a ping or tracert on my phone.

You could still do it on your computer. Not particularly interested in connections that aren't having this issue.

But my computer can't post it to the forums . Guess I could send it by another means, but just not really on the forums directly.

The forums seem to work fine for me, but once in awhile, a thread will choose to not load, and then that specific thread will never load ever again... It's been happening for awhile, but now that it's happening with the Virtue Name thread, I'm pretty bummed.

What sort of phone is it? Could always email it to yourself, then copy & paste from the email. You could also tether your phone to your computer (most US carriers want to charge you to do that, though... there's a large number of ways to do it for free with Android, though )

Given I work for one of those carrier, I really shouldn't . Also, some of the carriers are actually changing folks plans who are free tethering. Not really relevant though .

Will give a shot after done at ebil work, not expecting much since it appears restricted to web.

For me at least, knock on wood veneer, I can get back on reliably again. Maybe it was some routing issue between me and the servers.

The forums load faster on an iPhone + 3G than they do on a 6 core processor with a fast broadband connection.

I'm not enough of a nerd anymore to track down what the hangup is, but both ie and Firefox give similar connection reset errors to me. I'm guessing a routing or dns glitch that's only affecting some networks since my phone had similar problems seeing the forums over wifi.

I'm having the same issue, and it's been especially bad since I upgraded my internet connection last monday. Whether that might have something to do with it I can't say since I have the technical aptitude of a gazelle. At least it isn't just me.

I also have had this issue for the past 2 days using both IE8 32 bit and Firefox. Clearing caches, cookies, etc with CCleaner didn't help. Trying the /flushdns fix posted earlier didn't help.

I usually have my computers set to obtain their DNS servers automatically and my router--Netgear WNDR3700--to use OpenDNS servers. For S&Gs I set the router to obtain automatically from my ISP, and it fixed the issue. I like using OpenDNS because of my kiddos...does anyone with more tech knowledge than I have any suggestions? Are the rest of you having this issue using OpenDNS?

EDIT: I've switched back to OpenDNS and can still load the forums. I ran CCleaner again to make sure I wasn't loading from caches or something. This gets curiouser and curiouser...

Ahhh, thanks for reminding me of OpenDNS

I can now load the forums again.

If anyone's having problems, try manually setting your DNS server to 208.67.220.220.

If this is really a DNS issue, and you don't like OpenDNS (I don't), Google's Public DNS is a good alternative: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html (8.8.8.8 for the primary, 8.8.4.4 for the secondary).

So... anyone ever gonna try the whole tracert thing?

I've just had the same problem, but didn't find this thread until after it started working again and didn't take any traces. Next time it happens, if it does, I'll run a few pathpings from my PC and a couple of other locations I've got access to and see if I can track down the source of the problem.

The fact that everyone seems to be "fixing" this by changing the DNS servers suggests that it could be a caching issue.

FWIW, my primary DNS when my problems were at their worst was Google and my secondary was my router (with whatever DNS servers my ISP had configured).

I dunno what the real problem is since I've never seen a DNS lookup for boards.cityofheroes.com fail. And, just to add a further wrinkle ... I'm once again having problems with the forum with Google as my primary DNS and OpenDNS as my secondary.

Edit: one other thing to try -- use the forum's IP address and not it's name: 64.25.35.108

OK, the DNS "fix" from earlier might have been a fluke of timing, because the "fix" only lasts 10 minutes or so after changing the DNS servers and is not consistent. Below is my ping.

Typing the ip address of the boards in the address bar doesn't help with loading either. If you care to explain what a tracert is and how to proceed, I would be glad to post the results (assuming I can get on)!

Run the following from a cmd window:

Code:
pathping boards.cityofheroes.com > %userprofile%\desktop\coh.txt
It won't appear to be doing much, but give it 4 or 5 minutes and it'll return you back to the prompt and if you check your desktop you'll have a text file with all the info you need to provide in it.

FYI the reason for dumping to a text file rather than outputting to the console is that pathping typically outputs lines that are too long for the standard console width, which makes it hard to read.

Also, you can just run:
Code:
tracert boards.cityofheroes.com
but Pathping provides more information including things like packet loss.

tracert is short for "traceroute"

It basically traces hops back to the address you enter, pinging each node along the way. If there are any problem nodes between you and the destination it can be fairly obvious.

The output from a pathping will look like THIS!

Whoops! Sorry!

It'll look like this.

And don't freak if you see some of the nodes between you and the destination with 100% packet loss. Some carriers purposefully set their systems to drop pings as a form of abuse prevention (since flooding a system/network with massive quantities and/or oversized pings can compromise service.
