Killing the Game?

To the OP, I sit on both sides of this fence. I don't like what flipping/marketeering has done to what used to be some of the cheaper sets, as this means patience pays off less than it used to, in that if you leave a very low bid up for a month or so, it is unlikely to fill when previously it would have done. Recipes I used to get for 5-10K are often now costing me 100-200K which adds up when you want 50 of them of various types.

However, the bloated market pays its own dividends.

I started a stalker on a new server (no other vills), and when she hit 50 5-6 weeks later, she had a fully IOd (non purpled) softcapped /EA build and 3BN in the bank with only one decent (70M) drop. How ? Well I simply played the market and memorised/crafted a load of common IOs.

I have a simple question;

Are you trying to kill the game?

Prices from 250,000,000 to 400,000,000 on Purple sets, and certain Procs are absolutely outrageous.

Respec Recipe 200,000,000?

Normal players of this game can not come close to affording these prices. Are you trying to force them to the Spam Sites?

Are you a source of Influence/Infamy for the Spam Sites?

What gives?

I have several 50's and have enjoyed playing them, and IO'ing them.

I just created a new toon, and at your current Market Pricing, she'll never get IO'd out.

You think peeps will keep playing when they can't IO their toons?

Whats up with this?
Let me be polite as possible: You have no idea what you are talking about, and obviously don't know how to play this game. Also, your list of such extravagant accusations (IE we run the game) might almost be taken as a compliment, excepting the fact that it spirals into mega-hyperbole (yes, we run all the RMT sites).

Read the guides, the stickies, and all of that. You can make billions without even trying. And you state that you've fully IO'd characters out before, referencing purples as you do so? I don't believe you. You're either lying then, or lying now. How could you fully IO out, with purples, "several 50s" and not be capable of doing it for the next one?

Show me my errors. Prove me wrong.

Whilst I understand your angst and how you tried to write an intro to your thread, I'm suggesting that next time you could do a draft up first so you don't receive so much backlash (that's if you are open to suggestions). Next time do up a draft before posting, reread the thing and try to imagine it from another person's point of view. Also, try not to accuse anyone of anything (even if you didn't realise it). Eg accusing the forum of trying to kill the game = bad.

Yes, yes they are (outrageous)

Whilst I don't expect them to be cheap, nor easily available, the prices skyrocketed ever since the AE machine sucked in the greedy hordelings.

Players are hitting 50 very fast; faster than prior to i15 (AE).
Players were earning tickets, rolling loot, and making influence faster than prior to i15.
Players were farming critters higher in level*(not including bridging in PI) than prior to i15 and earning more influence per kill.
Another side affect of the AE farming spree, is loot does not drop in AE missions (unless it is a dev's choice). So zero purples drop whilst that player goes from 1-50 doing AE farms.

So you get the picture:
Faster to 50 and with a truckload of cash.
Some of these cashed up cash cows then waddle over to the auction house, and then snaffle up the ultra rares for big amounts.
There's less purples for sale now, more demand, so up goes the price.
It wouldn't matter if I stuck one for sale for 5 influence, it would most likely sell for an 8 to 9 digit long figure.

Depends what you consider a *normal* player.
I would not expect the casual gamer to have purples; I'd expect them to have SOs slotted and some common trainer IOs.

No-one is forcing anyone to do anything.
Why would I want to pay real cash for virtual money? That's pretty stupid. I already earn enough on my toons. I also slot within my means, and the key here is I have learnt to be very patient.

By the way, not a good idea with accusations of forcing players to go to spam sites it starts your thread on the wrong foot.

Me too. I have lots of alts.
Most of them are slotted with common trainer IOs.
And most of them will never be *fully IOd out* with the glory sets (eg purples, miracle, lotg etc). Nor do I expect it to happen anytime soon.

Quote:
You think peeps will keep playing when they can't IO their toons?
Um, yes? Yes I expect people will keep playing, just as they have since the game first rolled out many years ago.
Speaking of years, many of those went by where there were NO ios. And there was no auction house back then either.
Players used to just slot DOs then SOs, and the lucky ones who got to go on hami raids would actually get to slot some HOs.

Quote:
Whats up with this?
Why is IO'ing a toon out so vital to you?
The dev's have said in the past that the characters ability is not based on having IOs, they test powers based on slotting with readily available enhancements (DOs/SOs) you can buy relatively cheap from many available stores.
Maybe you need to look at why this is such a big deal to you & put it in perspective.

Here is some advice:
I used to feel the same way about the prices, prior to i15 actually.
I hated the auction house even.
Then after posting how I felt about it, and a light flaming, I got some great advice.
Don't use the auction house like a shop. Ever.
Just bid, and bid low (50 to 75% below what the last visible average price paid for that item). Let your bid sit there. Be patient. Take a week before you log back onto that character to check. Do other stuff (real life) or play a different character during that time.
Lastly remember why you are playing the game (to be super of course!). I'm pretty sure you did not buy it in order to go to sleep at night knowing you are wrapped in purple enhanced glory.

I'm not going to parse your post.

Just run missions with your level 50, run the odd Imperious Task Force or whichever you can do in your free time.

Craft the drops and sell them, it's really that easy.
I habitually deleted any 'non-good' stuff I got during ITFs. Recently, out of boredom I started crafting and selling them before work.

I've been making 20-50 million a day just off uncommons and the odd rare drop. This is pretty much peanuts as if I weren't lazy I could be augmenting this off common IO sales (have Field Crafter) and selling Hamis, Pool Cs and other stuff.

I'll paraphrase what I said in the PvP IO thread:

My 15-year old SG mate and my married couple with 5 kids SGmates made over 100,000,000 playing 2-3 hours per week.

All they did was run an odd TF, run their favorite mission for drops and sell those crafted drops.

People will pay you for your drops.
People will pay you much more if you craft your drops.
People will pay you absurdly more than the crafting table costs for common IOs.

Don't be afraid to pull out a basket and reap the bountiful amounts of manna (money) falling from the sky.

Black_Strike,

I hope you're still reading this thread. Please listen, I don't have much time. Do not fall for their lies. They're doing their normal razzle-dazzle "supply and demand" crap. You and I both know that purple recipes sell for 5K if you sell them at a store. That's their true worth. The only reason they sell for more is manipulation by the ebil marketeer cabal!

.... OMG, a black truck just pulled up outside of my house. I think they've found me. Black_Strike please listen to me before it's too la

Three!! wait.. or is it five... is the eggroll in the microwave?

As many have stated the price of many things has ramped up greatly due to AE missions. Not only have the AE missions reduced the supply of recipes and salvage, they have dumped a HUGE amount of inf into the game. (killing a level 52 boss while soloing a map yields around 40k each..)

Purples are easy to get. Kill things that can drop them, and bid on them at Wentworths or the Black market.

You're right that most players will never have certain IO's. What you fail to understand is that most players simply don't care about them.
