A Sign of things to come?
Not sure what the plans are, if any, with respect to opening access to EU/NA servers to subscribers across the pond. Personally, I always felt it was strange to segregate the player-base in this way.
Tabula Rasa had one Euro server, and three North American servers, but subscribers were free to roll characters on the server of their choice, Euro or NA. This seems like a better model to me.
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.

Ok - without going into THAT again (let's try to keep that contained in your other thread) - I... just don't see this happening... as it stands; the number of North American servers we have is, some would argue, stretching our population a bit thin as is.
If we "merge" by just removing restrictions to who can acess what server - I don't really see the 'problem' getting much better. Who's to say that 90% statistic (that I'm sure Homer would have something to say about), is not present on the NA servers? Sometimes it feels that way over here too. Not saying it might not be a bad Idea to remove the boundaries, but...
And the logistics of merging in any other fashion (as it is a periodic suggestion for the NA servers), is nightmarish - to say the least.

It doesn't seem unlikely that the EU servers will be merged into perhaps two (Union merged with Defiant, Zefunkt merged with Vigilant) then added to the US pool. Not only are they now on the same forums but European trials were "suspended indefinately" recently.
Going Rogue might be the time that action is taken, and honestly it'll be a benefit for all because the EU servers were very very quiet when I left them a couple of years ago and obviously that means two years of slow decline. Better to have the entire community united - no fun on Defiant trying to run TFs, for example.
Yes but Golden Girl, you are hardly an example of an average player. I have no doubt someone like you with so many connections to the most active players and supergroups has little trouble finding taskforces. That's not really the issue - ANY problem can be overcome by having a lot of in-game friends and access to supergroups and chat channels where these things are organised frequently. The problem of course is that it's not sane to designate that as the norm or minimum required to get the same experience that is on offer to everyone in the US pool.
I played for 18 months on the EU servers and only ever managed to get on 2 PuG taskforces: Synapse and the TV respec. My experience is not atypical and judging by others from the EU that've migrated to the US servers the situation has continued and worsened.
Just join the Defiant Events channel and you'll be ok - anyone can get TFs there - and some fun chat too

Wan't this topic a auto-delete-cuase-it's-been-flogged-to-death topic on the EU forums?
To summarize the many, may dev responses on this:
No, not going to happen. International law reasons. Besides the 'empty' UK servers are as 'empty' as the mid-population US servers and they're not going to merge any time soon, either.

Sorry, didn't relise this has been confirmed as not happening but even if EU and US players cant get access to each others servers it would make sense to merge the servers on each side, if the populations spread thin on US servers then merge then into 2 full servers and do the same for defiant and union on the EU side

Server merge: Terrible idea, not gonna happen, put that out of your mind.
Merging U.S. and European account base: Possible, and personally, I'd like to see it happen. I really can't imagine any good reason why I shouldn't have one account that can roll a character on Triumph, Vigilance, Union, Pinnacle, Champion, or any other server, be it North American or European. I can certainly understand having servers spread out in different physical locations, so that you can choose a server that is likely to have a lower network latency.
There would be issues associated with that, though; namely, the merging of account and global names. What if there's a European @TonyV? Would we become @TonyV_NA and @TonyV_EU like they did with the forums? I'd certainly hope not, but they'd definitely have to figure out how to fairly avoid name collisions.
One possibility would be to simply give everyone who has a North American account a European account, and vice versa. You'd basically have two global names (though they could be the same). Continue running the game as two sets of servers.
I dunno, but really I doubt they're seriously considering it right now. Maybe at some point in the indeterminate future, but not now.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
Heck with it. No merge; just give the EUro players a reverse "Passport" to join the US Server of their choice (original "Passport" was to let US playing EU players join their Communities back home) and shut down the EU servers if they are 'truly' so desolate.

It's a new horse to me, I didn't know it was dead, etc:
I think there's a flaw comparing "the 'empty' UK servers " and "the mid-population US servers":
If I can't find anything to do on, say, villainside Pinnacle, because there's 200 visible players on the whole thing: I can log off and go to Freedom and have a whole different set of problems.
A Defiant player doesn't have that option.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
I would honestly enjoy adding the EU servers to the US, or visa versa as it's the same dang thing. I have been trying to work on my German and would love to join Zefukt(Was that it?) with some side characters as a way to practice. i mean heck, what's better than immersing yourself in a different culture of a game you love to get those language skills flowing?
Ah, either way, I doubt it would happen, but I think it be nice for everyone, in my opinion.

The main problem with the merging of the two sets of servers isn't just the problems with global names...
...also the data protection laws in Europe are completely different (and much more draconian in their rules) than they are in America this also somewhat limits what they can do (or so we're told).

As I am in Sweden, I have several friends that picked up City of Heroes that I would like to play with, but they are all on the EU servers as they did not think this through before buying the game. I was lucky enough to think a bit and realized that being on the EU servers would be really stupid and went for a US account.
If the games were merged so that everyone could play on all servers, I would be very happy, as I would be...
... able to play with more of my IRL friends
... getting more character slots for my altitis
... happy for the people on the EU servers who would now have more people to team with.
So go right ahead and merge the games, plz

Does Memphis Bill have one of his magic bullets for this one?
But they do apply to the personal information held on the Account/Login servers. Which last I knew, were still separate.

Merging the servers isn't just about copying character data across, it's also about having the account data copied across and the EU data protection laws aren't exactly too keen on having personal data being taken outside the EU by a company if I remember correctly.
Does NCSoft have a physical presence in Europe(I imagine they do)? Because if they don't then they don't have to follow any European laws.
With the EU and US forums being merged will the EU and US clients be merged so we have access to US servers?
EU servers are dead, theres about 200 people on at any one time and 90% of those are in AE
