I need an angel :)

Heya guys! I want to make an angel character. I have the costume picked out already, now I just need an AT...lol.

The character needs to have fly, but aside from that, it is pretty open. The character will be mostly teaming up for TFs and AE stuff, but needs to be able to solo when needed.

So far, I have came up with the following ATs....

?/arch Defenders

arch/? Blasters

BS/SD Scrapper

Katana/? Scrapper

I would love to hear suggestions on what you think would make a good angel character, and/or any other thoughts on this. Including a build templete if possible. I'm completely open for any/all ATs, as long as it can fit an angel theme (one way or another)

Like I said earlier, I would like to have fly as a travel power.

Thank you!

Assault Rifle.

An angel with an Assault Rifle would be badass.

Or hell, Dual Pistols.

Peacebringer.
'Holy light' blasts. Fly from the get go.
Works fine for me. And the PB sound is a bit like bells, or a somewhat ghostly organ. Quite cool, methinks.

Broadsword/Shield Defense is the most iconic, in my opinion.

Personally, I'd go with a Fire/Mental Manipulation Blaster. Retributive angel!

Quick concept for the leveling version:

Level 40 Natural Blaster
Primary Power Set: Fire Blast
Secondary Power Set: Mental Manipulation
Power Pool: Flight
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Teleportation

Hero Profile:
Level 1: Fire Blast
Level 1: Subdual
Level 2: Fire Ball
Level 4: Mind Probe
Level 6: Rain of Fire
Level 8: Fire Breath
Level 10: Hover
Level 12: Swift
Level 14: Fly
Level 16: Concentration
Level 18: Blaze
Level 20: Drain Psyche
Level 22: Health
Level 24: Stamina
Level 26: Blazing Bolt
Level 28: World of Confusion
Level 30: Aim
Level 32: Inferno
Level 35: Psychic Scream
Level 38: Psychic Shockwave
Level 41: Teleport Foe
Level 44: [Empty]
Level 47: [Empty]
Level 49: [Empty]

Power pools are pretty set, except I'd probably take Hasten somewhere and drop Teleport Foe if you don't like that concept. Travel power and Stamina are taken conveniently, though your single-target won't be that interesting.

Uriel is often identified as a cherub and angel of repentance. He "stands at the Gate of Eden with a fiery sword," or as the angel who "watches over thunder and terror."

Archangel Michael is said to be the closest to God and is heaven's greatest defender and mightiest warrior against evil. His symbol is a fiery sword.

I'd say any number of combos fit:

Shield/Fiery Melee Tanker
Invulnerability/Fiery Tanker
Fire/Fire Blaster
Sonic/Fire Blaster
Psychic/Fire Blaster
Fire/Mental Blaster
Sonic/Mental Blaster
Psychic/Mental Blaster
Sonic/Sonic Defender
Empathy/Sonic Defender
Mind/Empathy Controller
Mind/Sonic Controller
Mind/Thermal Controller
Fiery Melee/Shield Scrapper
Fiery Melee/Invulnerability Scrapper
Fiery Melee/Shield Scrapper
Broad Sword/Shield Scrapper
Broad Sword/Invulnerability Scrapper

Pick your poison.

I have a valkyrie that's a Broadsword/Shield Scrapper. Alternate version of her as an Axe/Shield Brute too. She's pretty fun.

I personally think that an Arch/MM blaster fits the theme perfectly. On top of that, you're not gimping yourself by choosing powers for a theme. It's a very powerful and fun combo endgame as well.

Intereting set of criteria.

Broadsword/Shield is really powerful solo. However, you run into trouble when teamed with tanks and controllers as they tend to either pull aggro off of you or lock opponents in place, limiting how many you can hit at once with the AAO boosted whirling sword and slice attack. So that might not be good for someone mostly team based. (Although an shield/axe or a shield/mace tanker might fit thematically.)

Archery is actually a pretty good blast set, with a lot of direct damage potential. But you have a lot of choices to pair it up with. Empathy would be a perfect fit for an Angel, but is absolutely terrible solo. Radiation is very similar to Empathy and a lot better solo. However teams tend to steamroll through most stuff before the anchors can be set, so it's ironically very good solo and in small duos or trios, but relatively miserable on large teams. Being a blaster is a good idea, but blasters don't have much defense to solo with, usually.

Perhaps a slightly different approach? How about this one to put the "Fear of God" into evildoers?

I've got a few Angel type characters and I generally go the the elemental, control of nature type thing. So far Ive got:

Tired Angel (Defiant) - Grav/Storm 'troller
Tired Angel (Union) - Earth/Electric Dominator
Angel's Ghost - Storm/Dark 'fender
Tortured Angel - Fire/Storm Corruptor
Tired Angel's Return - Cold/Electric 'fender
Hell's Angel Uriel - currently Zombie/Storm MM but will be rerolled as Zombie/Thermal come I16

Most my angel's (bar Angel's Ghost) are various incarnations of Uriel with different back stories.

I'm planning on making a Fallen Angel Archery/Storm corruptor with Issue 16. I have a Fire/Shield scrapper named Divine Wrath who has the angel look and is quite fun to smite the wicked with. The Cyborg pack targeting lasers from the eyes look quite appreciate for a wrathful angel when colored white or yellow by the way.

I'll toss my own $0.02 in here too. A yellow sword (glowing and/or holy), and Willpower on either a scrapper or a tanker (or a brute if you really wanted to be an evil angel), would probably be the most fitting if you don't want an angel of (something causing other powers to be more fitting).

Though, holding off for Dual Pistols sounds a hell of a lot more badass for an Angel type character.

I've always envisioned an Inv/SS tanker for an angel style character. The golden glow around your hands as holy power surging through you to smite enemies.

I've built a couple of angel types. A Broadsword / Shield Scrapper is great for the classic angel look (the Energy shield looks great colored light gold) and I have a Fire/Dark corruptor fallen angel. Some other possibilities:

Archery Blaster for the cherub / Cupid look... pair it with Energy for an all ranged hover Blaster (perma-Boost Range) if you want to stay close to theme, since none of the Blaster secondaries seem really "angelic". Maybe /Fire for the "flaming sword" thing, but mind blasts, gadgets, or electricity don't really say "angel" to me.

Invulnerability / Energy Melee Tanker... a bright, shining warrior who smites enemies with glowing hands. Or Inv/Fire for the flaming swords.

Empathy/Energy Defender... recolor the energy blasts gold after I16 and you have healing plus light blasts. Won't solo well but great on a team.

Dark/Dark Scrapper or Defender... hey, the Angel of Death is still an angel, right?

Demon Summoning MM (after Going Rogue)... come on, the irony value alone is worth it.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

My angelic character is Claw/Regen.

You can make a lot of things work.

Main Hero : Annilixxion -- Lv50 Blaster
Main Villain : Menkaura -- Lv41 Mastermind

well, if he/she is a seraph, fire/fire would fit, since the root of the word for seraphim references something brightly burning and fiery. If you are going for archangel themed angels, i suggest /empathy for raphael, sonic/ sonic defender for Gabriel, and any fire set for Michael for the catholic and islamic versions. Islam also mentions azrael as an archangel related to death, so a dark/dark defender could work here. finally uriel is mentioned as the (light bringer) so an angel themed off his soldiers would probably fit energy (anything) or a peacebringer.

my angelic characters are emp/elec, a rad /rad, and a cold/sonic,

Archery/Fire Blaster worked pretty well for me, concentrating on the flaming sword attacks in my secondary.

Lots of options in this thread....

My one and only 'angel' character is an EM/WP Tanker. Still one of my favorite characters...

My angel has been Claws/SR since Sep or so of '04. We get sexier when we fall.

Be well, people of CoH.

My angel concept is built as a Fire/Fire tanker with the fire swords.

Heck with i16 and the color customization you can do anything but Arch/MM sounds fun. That's What I did for my Nephilim.

My fallen angel is a SS/WP Brute. SuperStrength is a good thematic fit, since I imagine angels would be incredibly strong and the glow of Rage looks good as some kind of visual demonstration of their angelic nature. Willpower works because you're not relying on artificial (Shield) means for your protection, and neither do you deviate from the traditional view of an angel by being covered in stone, fire, ice etc.
