you train-svestite, damz! (seriously, I seen him once, outside Atlas Monorail station doing...something!)
now, Coin, while the identity of the Batman may be for another forum, I'm still adjusting to our new surroundings, so let me say, that while **** may be a very different Batman to Bruce, he has the potential to be even better than his mentor. Also, the costume probably isn't the only thing he's kept warm for him over the years.
edit: ****, ****, ****, ****, ****! How many ****'s is that?
@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.
Yeah, but you know he's only keeping the costume warm for Bruce!
Anyway, that's a conversation for a different forum, I reckon |
Blackest Night...
WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!
That is all
Wait, nip is banned? I haven't heard that used in a derogatory sense over here in a few decades! Isn't it a holdover from World War 2 or some such?
Well, the preview let's me say it, let's see what happens when I post.... |
One of my favorite "words" banned in-game though is B5, which to an American sci-fi fan like myself means Babylon 5.

Can we say bugger and bollox?
On a more serious note, my main concern is not so much linguistic differences, but cultural ones, especially where quasi-politica/religiousl views may be expressed, which will inevitably come up for discussion. Choosing some topics off the top of my head, just for examples could be gun control, death penalty, socialised medical care etc - subjects which most people on either side of the debate do seem to hold to their hearts and can lead to lively discussion.
Putting some of those subjects in the CoX Context I'm thinking things like the Clockwork King's origin (& Blue Steel's involvement in that) could be somewhat polarising, as maybe Frostfire's origin might do.
That, more than words, might cause the odd burst of steam leak from collars both sides of the pond, but equally, I firmly believe that we must not be afraid of discussing potentially difficult subjects because that is what mature debate is all about and to stifle that renders any forum discussion rather pointless.

I'm quite proud of myself that I can't think of anything else I would associate the combination of the letter B and the number 5, let alone anything potentially offensive (well, at least as far as everything is potentially offensive to a person, but to the public in general, probably not) although I suppose, they could be trying to stop people making Sesame Street characters.

A few times I (a brit) have been mildly surprised by threads being posted in City Life celebrating various memorial days dear to Americans that seemingly have no relevance to CoH apart from the people being remembered (soldiers etc) being generally considered 'heroes'. They did I recall garner a bit of debate, generally on stuff like 'there were other nationalites than the US on D-Day' and things like that, with Australians and Canadians, as well as some of the Brits who play US-side, commenting. It'll be interesting to what effect our new European forumgoers addition to the fold have on things like this. The American memorial day Veterans Day, for example, is on November 11, which is also the day of the British Armistice Day, so that'll probably go down ok with the yanks and the Brits. The British equivalent, Armed Forces' Day, however, is on June 27, and I don't think the US has anything similar around that date?

Speaking for myself only, I will celebrate English, Irish and Scottish holidays as I have roots with all. I couldn't care less about Independance Day (my partner has American roots, so he celebrates while I sit around twiddling my thumbs), and I wouldn't expect anyone without ties to England to celebrate St. George's Day, or Scottish: St. Andrew's, or Irish: St. Patrick's, or Welsh: ...I dunno, a dragon?

QR - I can't see the mods allowing a thread celebrating St Davids Day to stay, myself. It's nothing at all to do with CoH. However, the Brits now around me couls shed some light on wether or not that sort of stuff was tolerated on the old EU boards?

The European Lounge Feeling like small fishes lost in a vast ocean? Missing the European family feel? This is the place if you want to discuss all things european. |

Favourite Doctor, anyone?
Eastenders or Corrie?
Who thinks Poland's gonna actually get all the infrastructure in place for the Euro 2012 in time?

Heh, oh yeah. That's pretty open-ended, that, isn't it? Does that mean we can discuss anything at all as long as it's got a European connection?

Neither, they're both boring, banal tripe which should never be allowed on television
Football? Oh dear lord no.

My favourite brushes with the bleeper were when somebody asked what level the badguys were, so I typed 45s where the filter read the 4 as an A and the 5 as an S.
Also Virgin are one of the largest ISPs in the UK and that got bleeped ingame in a discussion on outages. Not sure if it still is, PMd ex about it ages ago.

Do I have to change one of my advertised MA arcs to "Attack of the Robot Warriors from Mongolia"?
tbh it's not as catchy.
