Rep can be turned off?

But how would I be able to self torture myself then? I have a magical ability to make people mad at me, and what better way do they have to show me how much I suck than dissin me through Rep points on my favorite forum.

I have a song stuck in my head It won't go away. and its like "Pop"... almost dare I say it as bad as say... Britney... but its different than that... Its driving me craxy

Reading through the posts about the new forums and the rep system, I've noticed that the people who would have otherwise gotten a lot of negative rep (mainly through being less than polite when posting) have already disabled theirs, so anyone with actual negative rep is likely not actually a bad poster, but has just been neg-repped for no real reason.

I got off on such a bad footing I'm not even bothering with the Rep System. It'll only be shaded by my prior posting anyway.

They're not a good idea anyway. Just a poor excuse for a popularity contest. I won't be taking part in anything like that.

Lol, with rep turned off people can still leave rep. I'm now at the heady heights of +2 and someone decided to test giving negative rep on me with the comment itself being 'testing'. Cheers whoever you are, lol!

I still dont understand how the rep thing actually works, like I said earlier im sitting at -7, with one negative (comment saying as a joke) and one positive. By all rights I should be back at 0...... I miss being at 0

The positive/negative rep thing is not a 1 to 1 scale. It's weighted depending on the rep of the person repping you. A person with a significantly higher (or lower) rep then repping you has greater weight than someone just slightly off the zero mark in either direction. So you can have a lot of 'little' positive reps, and have ONE person with a really negative one come along and negative rep you, and WHOOSH, your rep plummets faster than the Viper roller coaster at Magic Mountain.

Shouldn't that be the other way around, where people with great POSITIVE rep can strongly affect your score and people with great NEGATIVE rep have no impact at all?

At least that's the way I'd do it if I was designing it.

It works that way in both directions. If you've been dinged over and over again by folks fairly close to the zero mark, and one person with a really GREAT rep comes along and positively reps you, it's a big shift as well.

If I designed the system, people with negative rep wouldn't be able to give out positive rep, and negative rep would secretly have a negative one multiplier to positive rep targets, so that if a person with negative rep tries to drag someone down, it would fact increase the target's reputation instead if they're already in the green.

But that's just me, I'm diabolical like that.

Really, though, I don't care too much about reputation, good or bad. I figure that mine will probably hover around zero. When I post stuff about the wiki, people will probably dish out positive rep. When I chastize farmers for the stupid things they do, they'll dish out negative rep. I've already handed out some positive rep for people who have been helpful. I'm trying to make up my mind whether or not I'll bother with negative rep, because I figure that trolls probably want negative rep,and I feel like giving it to them would actually be encouraging them.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
