Bored Phase

At the moment, no matter how I try, I am going through a bored phase with CoH.

I know some great people and we do fun things like TFs etc, but I just find I am totally bored. The MA is not my thing, but as they said the MA wasnt the only thing in I14, I still held out, but its looking like they fibbed yet again.

With all the competition coming, you would have thought the devs would do more to keep people, and yet instead they seem intent on fixing things that dont need it, such as
pet buffing and leaving things like the /sync bug that happens so often we have to bind it.

Champions is looking a lot rosier lately as are the Sci Fi games like Earthrise.

Dont get me wrong, I love this game but I am just finding it tedious at the moment and was wondering how you guys vary it so you dont get bored?

I play Left 4 Dead, go for a vacation to another country, visit my godkids, hang out with my friends, go out and try to find The One, and other things.

And then after a while of doing something else, I return to CoH and have fun with my friends there. Maybe try some new AT and try to get my friends to roll new characters as well.

A shame, but it happens. Time for a break maybe? I'm currently going through the Kotor games again. Great fun.

They did, huh? I seem to remember they did say that MA was the only thing for Issue 14 with maybe some small things thrown in.

So, broken IO sets and pet behaviours don't need fixing? Right. And if the /sync bug was fixable don't you think they would've done it by now? Not to mention that those are 2 completely different things that are under the control of completely different devs. Or would you rather have the devs didn't do anything at all untill the /sync bug got fixed?

Personally I'm holding out trying a new MMO till SW:ToR gets released.

If I get bored with CoH (which happens every 2 months or so and last for 1-2 weeks usually) I usually go back to playing single player RPGs or Starcraft.
It's true that CoH doesn't have the most varied gameplay out there, though the great variation in character creation helps a lot, but for some reason I still prefer it over other MMO's anyday.

Happens to me regularly, just get played out and can't find any reason to log in. When that happens I just go and do something else for a while. I don't bother with other MMO's because I've found they're all pretty much the same under all the glitz and glamour.

I keep a copy of the Elder Scrolls games, open ended single player games for those moments. Just spend a couple of weeks messing with those and pop back on CoX again when I get bored with them.

Or, do some interesting real life things...

Get a job as a chef, with work hours being a royal pain at the moment it takes your mind off being able to play. Even when you want to, and when you do get some time off its spent sleeping.

It seems that no one has told our customers about this credit crunch/recession. In fact they seem to be going all out to ignore it.

I will return though.

While I'm enjoying the MA, I'm going through a bored phase with the rest of the game.

I'm hoping when Issue 15 comes around I can enjoy the rest of the game more.

For now, MA, and my various consoles are of choice.

People go through phases with any hobby - take a break for a few weeks now and come back to try the best of I14 MA player-created content when I15 is imminent.

I don't think the devs ever said that.

IIRC they said something along the lines of 'Architect is the main part/bulk/thrust of I14' and when people shouted 'Oh noes - I14 is just MA' some others (myself included) countered that the devs had never said that it was just MA. And past issues have often had small improvements/developments that haven't been mentioned in pre-release press as the big developments get all the attention.

i.e. the devs never said it was just MA and they never promised anything other than MA.

As it happens, I14 isn't just MA. Granted the non-MA content (e.g. changes to PvP) is a lot smaller than the non-feature changes we often see, but I15 has always (even when it was to be I14) been billed as the big 'story' issue.

From MA becoming it's own issue I'd guess that I15 is ready to launch/test pretty hot on the heels of I14 - and it wouldn't surprise me if it does reach test quickly once enough bugs in MA/I14 are quashed.

I know how you feel Shazan, I went through that very phase where I couldnt be bothered playing it. I stopped playing for a month and occupied my time lsewhere (other games, exam studying etc) and then a month later I came back refreshed and started playing AT's I had previously not enjoyed.

I would still love to see more lvl 50 content and go back to Golden, buta month off was just what I needed!

Oodja Nikabolokov - Lvl 50 SS/WP Brute
Baby-Phoenix - Lvl 50 Peacebringer

It happens, a break from subscribing for a couple of Issues does wonders - whether thats a break from MMOs in general, trying out the competition, or trying some single/multi-player games on consoles.

Hope to see you back soon.

My opinion has always been that any game only has so much play time in it. Some people use that up in bursts of continual pay while others just play for a few hours here and there. Either way one is going to hit the wall at some point.

The only exception to this is when friends keep you tied to a game. In this instance it's much the same as going to a specific bar or social club - you're going for the people not the place.

The only risk of taking a break is that you forget how much fun it was or you find something that seems more exciting.

I'm also a little bored with it right now.

I've been going through my games on Steam and all the old Q3 Engine games I've got just to pass the time.

Normally this feeling of boredom passes for me in two weeks or so.

I'm currently going through a bored phase too... Have been for a few weeks now in fact... Hell, even my posting on the forums has dropped off a fair bit.

TBH, I'm not 100% that the release of i14 is going to get me out of it either... I need something new to play, or I need something old to be given a new coat of paint and the kiss of life applying to it.

I'm in the same boat too and a bit stuck. Test occupied me for a bit last week but I've gotten bored of it already (always the danger when trying something on Test).

I've retried WAR over the last few weeks too and I've gotten bored of that again (terrible framerate means the PvP isn't much fun at all and the Tier 2 stuff is so like Tier 1 I couldn't face it).

Dawn of War 2 is shiney but dreadfully dull, the single player campaign is awfully repetitive, they made a complete mess of it for some reason.

Bit stumped what to play really. How to be a Complete Post-Nucular B*****d in Fallout 3 maybe. I was far too nice first time around.

I have board Phases ever so often where i just cant be bothered logging in and when i do log in i cant really be bothered doing anything.

when spells like this hit i tend to just log off/not log on and go do something else thanks to the wonder of sky+ i have hours of TV to catch up on, I'm once again trying to re-teach my self to draw (with less than promising successes) and last night i picked up a sculpted i abandoned almost 3 years ago and began working out what needed fixing with it.

Basically what I'm saying is get your self some other hobbies (away from the PC is better but even another game would do) as when you're free time starts to just be used up by CoH its very easy to get board. I find its far better to be at the stage of " I've got 3 hours to kill what to do really want to watch the next episode of sanctuary, but i want lvl6 on my blaster, but that sculpt is just calling out for some attention" some times CoH will win other times it'll be a night in front of the TV or crouched over a greenstuff sculpt with a array of what could pass as torture tools at my side

I can hear every bored one posted in this thread. I've been there twice and nowadays i am kinda bit bored also. As i am familiar feeling i've been trying to overcome that feeling by doing different things (started a sg, trying to design a base, collecting badges for sg, gambling even stepped into PvP zones) but still that sense ain't going nowhere. Lately i am throwing myself into TFs, as i know you can't back up once you start one. Maybe my teams don't aware but starting from second mission i am hardly trying to supress my urge to leave the computer.

Maybe you wonder why i am here? I am here for a dream, that comic idea keeping me tied to the game at the moment. Making drawings of my heroes and evolving them to out of game concepts keeping me occupied.

My advice for you is taking a break. Do different things as others suggested, try different games or play your favorite games once more ( I am cheating CoH with Spider-man: Friend or Foe nowadays ), read a book, watch some movies (but not super hero movies they usually make me want to play CoH) etc. etc. Spring is coming, go out and catch some fresh air and sun. When you come back you will surely feel refreshed.

Its great isn't it Knightly!, picked up that for around £15 in the bargain basement section of something like Amazon.co.uk. For all of its faults and reviewed critisisms, it really is the best Spiderman game I have ever played. Treyarch studios & Shaba absolutely nailed the acrobatic animations of Spidey.

Still have Mass Effect to play through again after I accidentally wiped my profile >.< .....and I still haven't finished Jade Empire!, In fact, If I hadn't lost all progress on that as well, I would have to play it again anyway because I have forgotton the story.
I swear I'm going to have to try to finish these games before I pick up any MMOs like CO or SW:TOR.

Looks at shelf in despair;
Tomb Raider Anniversary: unfinished
Tomb Raider Underworld: Brand new and still in wrapper
SplinterCell Chaos Theory: Unfinished
SplinterCell Double Agent: Unfinished
Grand Theft Auto IV: Unfinished
GRAW 2: Unfinished
Black and White 2 Collectors Edition: Unfinished
Medieval 2 Total War Collectors Edition: Unfinished

In some ways all mmo's have the element of grind and can become boring, if it were just down to the gameplay I would have been bored a while ago (although MA will help some), however it's the friends I've made in the game that keep me coming back, there are times where I can't be bothered onced I've logged in, but I use those times to crack a load of bad jokes and make a fool of myself while emptying vodka bottles...that works for me

That game has Iron Fist in it (also i played him on MUA thanks to marvel mods site and its hard working modders i played many other characters who arent in the game). I can say it is one of the best Marvel games. Only problem i see in game is, Black Cat's too different from the one we know but i guess it is covered with the fact she is one of the best fighters suiting my style.

Also i really think you should give Jade Empire a go. That game is amazing... I love Leaping Tiger style to the death. Also 3 maybe 4 different romance options making game more re-playable. Bioware really did a great job on that game, sometimes during cut scenes i really felt like i am watching an old chinese/japanese movie. That gestures and mimics of characters are superb.
