What will a MA arc need to gain 5 stars?

Apparantly there are badges for getting a mission in the Hall of Fame or Devs Choice. I forsee rating conspiracies springing up in the badging channels... remember when I9 was released and for days the only thing people talked about in the badging channels was trading alien tech back and forward? :P

[/ QUOTE ]

The rating system could be exploited by players who have 1,000 accounts - I hope the devs have thought of that possibility.

Hm, now that I think about it... there aren't 1000 members in the badging channels. But still... :P

The MA is Transatlantic - and badgers stick together
I'm sure info on certain badger created arcs can be spread to the appropriate places

What will my criteria be?

Catch me by surprise, dazzle me with a briliant plot, stun me with awesome costumed villains, challenge me in a fun way. Make me smirk, make me wipe a tear from my face.

Make sure that your description tell a bit about what i can expect. If its a deathtrap, a mission that is not meant to be soloable then i like to know before I start. So I can adjust my playstyle accordingly.

Don't try to make a hard mission by simply adding EB's or AV's in them.

If I find myself telling someone else about an arc I'm playing then that'll be worth a 5 star rating from me (considering I generally don't pay much attention to the game storyline and rarely feel engaged by the story).

Defiant 50s: Generalissimo, Righteous Bob, Splortch, Brutus Cayuga
Union 50's: Chimera Obscura, Diet Anthracite, Grim Proctologist, Puny Little Minion, Raging Bitumen

personally, i want the story telling

if you just go HERE'S 100 AVs, OFF YOU GO it will probably be 0 stars

Hall of fame = 1000+ ratings with an avarage rating of 5 (rounded to the nearest whole number, so actually 4.5).

That's probably even harder to get than 1000 5 stars though.

I'm not even going to think about getting in the HoF (I think the devs will find they need to ajust the criteria for anyone to get in). I'm just going to create what I enjoy, and hope others enjoy it too.

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually the original redname info (think from Ex Libris, I quoted it and linked source yestterday...) said 1000+ ratings with an average of 5 rounded up. Rounded up seems to imply a ceiling function, so >4.000000 is rounded to 5.

Your example would be rounding to the nearest integer - whether that is up or down.

Still probably nigh on impossible if people rate how they would if they had no idea of the ratings requirement for HoF.

EDIT: think that one of the interviews or player questions in the US discussions thread asked about HoF requirements (even after Ex Libris had posted what appears to be quite unambiguous) and the redname answering seemed a bit vague. I take this as it being outside the 'vague' rednames sphere of expertise... I'm sure that Ex would have checked the info before posting, so I'm still going with that. SO 1000+ votes with a mean average of >4 (to allow for rounding up).

BTW - they said average.. I hate people saying that - it is meaningless. Mean, median or mode actually mean something. But since a mode and median are usually integer values, and the common man normally means 'mean average' when they say average, I believe that they probably meant mean average.

I just found it pleased me on both pedantry and irony fronts, given that the botched spelling was in a section upon the importance of correct spelling. :P

A story line... Diversity... buildup... fun... and at least try to be original.

A story arc that you can see has more then an gour work in it. And yes.. I am not english origin but I will check all my text for spelling.

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

OK there's an arc I might try, Days seems to think sideways to start with, adding lett speak should make it unique

No apology needed. I am a pedant. I've been a systems developer for many years. The two things may not be entirely unrelated.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure about that? The only quote I've seen said they would be rounding up, which would suggest any score averaging >4 would be rounded to 5. A little more forgiving, but probably still not resulting in vast numbers of HoF arcs. From Ex Libris:
[ QUOTE ]

The Hall of Fame is where the best player rated content goes. To get to this rank you need to have over a 1000 votes with an average of 5 stars (we round up). Getting into the Hall of Fame changes your standing in the mission browser, moving it further up the queue.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe that's been clarified or corrected in something I've missed, though...

Excellent point, it does sound that they are talking about applying a ceiling type function to the ratings rather than rounding off.

BTW - Yesterday morning I gave an example or two of votes here in the Mission Architect Academy thread.

The 2nd example hit's a mean average of exactly 4.0, so still wouldn't be enough to get into the HoF:
[ QUOTE ]

2000 people voted as follows:
100 1 star
200 2 stars
300 3 stars
400 4 stars
1000 5 stars

So getting an average rounded up of 5 could be pretty darn hard... OK - it ain't meant to be easy, but not even making it in the above example (where 50% of the votes were for 5 stars, and only 15% were below 3) just seems ridiculously hard...

tbh its not all about the storying telling, some people dont play the arcs for the story line (like Maria Jenking's A Heroes Hero arc)

I think some dialouge is needed and yes for the pedantics out there a lot and spelt correctly (if they want). I know for sure im gonna give every american arc a max of 3stars for the underuse of the letter "u". :P

on a serious note, i will play each arc on its "playbillity" first and then its "writing". Tbh if the arc isnt playable but the story line is fantastic its a fail.
If the story line is average but the playabillity is good then its more than likely from me to get a higher rating. If the storyline is jumpy ie u must save the rabbit (via stonhenge stockport and duddley) whilst making love to elephants and sparrows, then yes no matter how playable it was it will get marked down.

consistency and fulidity is gonna be the key for me to mark high (and only american spellings (yes i know they are in the game and it winds me up espically aboout "The Honouree (and yes it should have a "u" in it espically as hes waring a union flag) will not recieve nething higher than 3stars)

I wonder if dev choice arcs will only come from the hall of fame, or if it's possible to have one with a less than 5 star rating chosen?
