At the current time, keyword. Even if there are no plans, it remains a possibility. By accepting the possiblity, it will be easier IF they eventualy decide to do so, to accept and move on. So even if it will never happen, you always keep it in mind IF eventualy it does happen.
I was, no i am, a happy Tabula player, the closure came quite unanounced, but since people would 'expect' it to happen it was less hit in the face.
(ironicly speaking, was there 'any plan at that time' the sudden closure of the NC office happened?)

Possibly but having come quite attached to my main toons names after a few years I would really really hate to lose them...

I very much doubt its sealed if tabila was suddenly to receive a massive upsurge in players (not likely but still possible) i'm sure NCsoft would reevaluate there decision after all they could move it on to a guild wars style free to play model with paid expansion (which would have probably worked better in the first place)

I don't like the idea of Psy-knight's name slipping thru my fingers but as GR said if there will be a merge (EU servers or EU/US) i am sure devs will come up with a good solution.
At worst they can use DDO style and i will have Psy-knight Union. 
I've said it before and I'll say it again. IF a server merge were to be even considered I find it EXTREMELY unlikely Defiant and Union would be merged. It's far more likely Zukunft and Vigilance will be merged with Defiant, creating a higher pop. on Defiant.
