Actually, the devs do actually play the game too - so they must like it just a little bit

[/ QUOTE ]

I didnt say they didnt care about/like/play the game.

Some people just forget that its also their job.

I doubt there would be a very big development team on this game if they were not getting paid.

Keep in mind that someone with the qualifications to be a game developer could easily get a much better paid job.

[/ QUOTE ]

That argument works both ways.

Plenty of people with degrees kicking about driving trains too because they earn more than they would in their qualified profession, not everyone feels the need to fall of the train thanking them though either.

CO from the looks of its latest trailer is much more suited to a console than a PC from my POW, and dont say those POW!!! BANG!!! WALLOP!!! above the enemies heads wont get on your nerves after a while either (they mustv seen our april fools joke and didnt realise it was a joke hehe).
It would be better to hold the advertising off until closer to the competitions arrival surely. When the hype starts building up when CO gets close to release date, THEN would be the time to mass market since its when a larger majority would be looking for the superhero genre.

Lets look at the features so far thats been announced shall we and who they'll pleased.

Custom missions: This will please a lot of creative people who want to get some form of physicality to their characters stories/backgrounds, from my own experience thats a LOT of people in this game. Also salvage farmers, its already been said that xp/inf will be lower than general missions (which is how it should be) but no mention of salvage/recipe drop rates.

More cimerora missions: Doesnt state how many or even what its going to be like but im guessing its going to have the same amount as when faultline got revamped (which is what? 4/5 arcs?). This will give one of the visually better zones more feeling to it which will be well appreciated.

Day jobs: Not a huge thing for me of course but this will be a dream come true for roleplayers and just a little sideshow thing (does EVERY feature have to be major?). FEEL THE WRATH OF THE EX DOCTOR TURNED UNDERTAKER!!!!

New powersets: Shield and pain both confirmed. Makes heroes/villains very happy in both the pve and pvp departments. Was a lot of cry to get a villainy empathy over and thankfully it seems they took their time in making sure it has that villain feel to it.

Base improvements: New ways to gain prestige, the way you spend prestige. 100% no way (i'll bet 150 mill inf) that prestige isnt their big base improvement they got planned. Im willing to bet that at long last we'll finally have some form of supergroup missions, more base items thats long been requested (windows/roofs etc) and a revamped base raid.

QOL issues: Nearly all of the quality of life patches in the last issue has made my life much easier (even as a vet) and im in no doubt this will make it even better too. For new players QOL issues are essential! I didnt know how to reply to a tell when i first started, now all you got to do is click the players name in the chat bar. Much easier than trying to explain "type in /t "players name", *message here*"

Merit rewards: Some of the best times in the game are when teams are together for a long period of time just having fun. Task forces were a big part of that but slowly drifted off because players wanted their rewards quickly so did the faster tfs. Now i admit lately tfs seem to be making a comeback (IMO due to the new tf channel <thanks for setting that up whoever did btw &gt but merit systems should get enough interests back into the forgotten tfs like shadow shards. Will make people who are after that one final recipe/reward much happier knowing they can guarantee they'll get it.

Zone refinements: Cant see a major overhaul like faultline but small changes like the one to the hollows then yes. I actually think it wont be boomtown or the shards that gets this but Perigine island. Can see them making this zone more of a hazard zone before having the shards redone. (possibly a few reflections/rularuu soldiers scattered around to indicate that there is a connection with them to the coming storm?)

Badges: Because we love them

Plus many more!: Bound to be a secret gem hidden in here somewhere too

Now if you look at the ISSUE 11 UPDATE NOTES which many agree was a major issue update then cant you see in contrast that its TINY compared to this one which a few players are saying is small? Issue 11 brought us repeatable missions/2 new powersets/weapon customisation . . . . . . . . . . issue 13 brings us unlimited potential.

Well that was a load of typing and i dont even know why i did it

Basically i love this game, created a new sg 2 days ago (which you should ALL join ) and already got 6 NEW players in there who have stated their love for it (i smacked them around a little you see) so even during the known quiet season we'r still getting players in. From october onwards will be very good since we'll have zombie invasion (omg i love thee devs for this, take my soul!!!), winter events, and issue 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

/oh and +1 xD

okies back for now ... subs will raise and fall, but when 2 new games get released subs will dwinnle slowly due to the wow factor of the "new" games.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mmmh. *Looks at AoC. 1 million subs at launch. 700k later on. 400k later on...*

The wow factor works the other way too. People go to the new games, get bored/find it not to their appeal/riddled with bugs, and come back to their old faithfuls. And sometimes bring people with them.

Most of the people I know who left CoH or WoW for AoC have stopped playing and gone back to the respective games. Wow and shine count for nothing over substance, in the grand scheme of things. DCUO isn't looking to be my cup of tea. CO isn't looking to be my cup of tea either. And that's fine. If CO and or DCUO is someone elses cup of tea, then they can think that. I'm excited about the upcoming stuff in CoH. Does me thinking that make CO and DCUO suck for everyone else? Nope.

So if you think the game isn't going in a direction you like, that's fine. Just don't put it across in a way that says everyone says this and everyone thinks that.

Regarding Offline Experience, I'm expecting it to work like it does for WoW. You gain a bonus to experience gain when you log back in for a while. Will this mean people get through the content faster? Perhaps. Will it encourage people to alt and bring other characters through the game? Hopefully. Will it be a game breaking thing that will bring on the farmers in their offline xp combine harvesters? I can't say for sure, but I'd expect probably not. When you think about it, it doesn't even make much sense anyway.

Posted

You know, when I first heard this, I was against it, but you know what? I've got a lot of characters I hardly touch and it'll be a nice bonus when I dust them off and log them in.

Some things to consider.

1. NCSoft bought the CoH IP from Cryptic. Cost? Easily $millions
2. NCSoft set up a new company, in new offices, to develop for CoH. Cost? $millions.
3. NCSoft have employed a LOT of new staff to develop for CoH. Cost? $hundreds of thousands.

If anyone SERIOUSLY thinks they're now going to do NOTHING with the IP, after spending all this money, they're idiots.

I guarantee you, good things are coming soon; and very likely some WOW factor stuff. They will HAVE too.

An Interlude.

"There hasn't been a platform announcement yet..."
"... THE COMPANY'S GONE BUST! IT'S ALL GONE TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR! I'M GOING TO START USING BUSES AND TAXIES NOW, AND HELL, EVEN MAYBE CARS!"
"The Eighteen Fifty-Eight NCNC service to Paragon City is on Platform One."
"... PLATFORM ONE?! THAT'S JUST OUT OF ORDER, I'M ALL THE WAY HERE AT PLATFORM EIGHT AND THEY WANT ME TO WALK ALL THE WAY DOWN THERE? I BET THEY'LL WANT ME TO SHOW MY TICKET TOO! I'M SO GOING TO USE A BUS FROM NOW ON."

Skip forwards a week.

"Hmm, no platform announcement yet."
"IT WAS LIKE THIS LAST WEEK, THE COMPANY DON'T LISTEN TO US! WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR THIS SERVICE? AND I BET WHEN THEY ANNOUNCE THE PLATFORM IT WILL BE ALL THE WAY AWAY AT THE OTHER END OF THE STATION! EVERYONE COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS AND THEY DON'T LISTEN! IF I WERE RUNNIN THIS COMPANY, I'D DO IT BETTER!"

From what I recall reading on Massively, yeah. The general concensus from what people who've been playing have said is that it still needed to go back in the oven for a few more months. Of course, now that it's on Steam for digital purchase and download, it might start to pick up some more subs again. I'm not sure what EVE appearing on Steam did for it, so I can't say if there's any possible correllation, but as a theory it makes sense.

Just porting over a game for the PC isn't enough to make it successful if it was designed purely for consoles.

As one of the people who believe that CO and DCO will crash and burn like AoC I have this to say,

4 years ago when CoH was released, pay2play gaming was a minority, I think only Everquest and a few others existed, as such, to draw in the people it needed to survive it's first few live months, an MMO needed to be a complete game with rigorous testing at Alpha and Beta stages to survive.

Nowdays, we get buggy MMOs released as supposedly complete games with massive sweeping changes in the first few months which completely change the way the game is played in order to get the game out of the door faster.

Now if an smart dev team leader of an already established SuperHero MMO decides to leave a massive announcement that will change the face of the game forever (i.e. New expansion pack) shortly after two rival games enter the arena...

I know which boards I'll be posting on this time next year.

Posted

uh, AoC still has about 350k subscribers, if that's crashing and burning, what are we still doing here?

still, for what i use this game for, CO could serve me much better, and i wouldn't have played everything in to the dirt, but it has to actually deliver.

I don't think we ever had 1 million players, did we? Or lost more than 600k ion a few months?
So while AoC does have more players thna us right now, it's also losing them at a spectacular rate that not even ED managed to do here

agreed, hell i one of the players that left (the lack of content above 50 was troubling) but it's far from a crash and burn, Auto Assault, now that was a crash and burn.

But do AoC or AA compare to the SWG collapse? Isn't that the mother of all player losses?

Firstly even thouhg i can appear negative i do love a lot about the game... after seeing CO vids its made me think i do wanna play this game and i never said i didnt I am nt the only ceptic here and I do voice my opinion and if neone takes and attitude like donna did i will be roporting it to GR like i will be with donnas post... that is a personal attack and is not needed at all on all of these forums (i know ive had my fair bit of flaming but hopefully its gone down to negiable) and Donna ive also priased u in a PvP post before.

Rigth thats that over,.... I do want to see this game succeed and theres nothign more than i would love than CoX to kick Co and DCUo right outta the ball park and wish they never stepped up to the plate.

I know i can be overly negative but i do have a right to... This mish creator whilst its not new to gaming is new to this game and its one of the i13 featuresim pleased to be getting as i myself a creative person loves this sorta thing

also the base editor im looking forward to for the same reason

The foremost reason y im being negative is becoz i dont want this game one of my favourite games after sonic to fail, and i'd really be upset if and i mean if that day ever happens.

I wish NCNC would just give us a glimpse again into the future to start the romour mill off again.

I really really love this game and love the potential it has

just becoz i come accross as negative doesnt mean i dont love this game.....becoz i absuletly friggin love it
