So's the case for me and my characters. I still try my best to present a challenge when becoming involved in PvP fighting -- sure, sometimes "my best to present a challenge" involves trying to stay hid and unseen while furthering a badge, but I do so outside the base and when I'm caught, I go down fighting.
No, I'm not much of a challenge, but I try. I participate.

Well, I would assume all those characters without defenses manage it somehow.
Defenses protect against attacks. Attacks come from both other players, and the environment.

By entering the zone they acknowledge that they can be attacked. There's no other way about it.

Um, actually Stase, while I haven't done a full re-read of the thread I don't recall any of "us PvEers" whinging about being attacked repeatedly.
AFAICS most or all of us are saying "we realise that if we enter the zone, we're fair game".
If anyone's whinging, it's a few PvPers who seem to be offended that we don't fire off a few ineffective attacks before going down to inevitable defeat.

The last one's the most likely, and that counts as PvPing. You're protecting yourself, the same way those childish PvPers do.

I'm on same boat, I couldn't PvP even if my life depended on it so, when in a PvP area such as RV to work off some debt on a low dmg toon or something like that, if ANYONE in there, experienced PvPer or not attacks me, I am going to faceplant anyway, so why not try hitting him at least? I might get lucky and land a hit in the nonos.

I know that I'm asking whats the frigging point in attacking some one who isn't there to fight, they don't prove the superiority of your build, because they aren't there to fight players.
Don't provide any challenge because they aren't PVP specced or in some cases don't even fight back.
So other than some sort of jerkish pleasure out of winding other people up whats the point in constantly attacking them?

[/ QUOTE ]We're talking PvP zones here, not the arena. You're far more likely to encounter a casual PvP'er than a hardcore one.

I very often search all maps on the opposite side of PvP Zones with a 2nd account and if someone pops up i'll be there in a shot. ;P

Good job I hide myself to all searches on the rare occassions I enter a PvP zone, then, isn't it? And you really hang around in PvP zones at 5.45 on a Sunday morning (which is the time I'm most likely to be there)?
If someone decides to take a pop at me while I'm getting shivans, or getting nukes, then that's fine. I will never complain about that. What I will complain about, constantly, is behaviour like I encountered once in Warburg, where my teammate (a scrapper) went completely unmolested simply so that 3 stalkers could 'pwn' my blaster when we linked up. Good tactic, I thought. Now take down the scrapper, and you've done a... oh, no, you're simply going to not let me and the scrapper get anywhere near each other as a team, so every time we get close you're going to all 3 AS me, laugh that you can 'pwn' a blaster, and ignore the scrapper, because, hey, what's the point in PvPing something when you can annoy the blaster and ruin any chance he and the scrapper have of enjoying themselves. If it had been for codes, I'd have been fine with it. But no, it was just to beat a blaster in a way he couldn't stop. Great. I left 5 minutes after my... fourth? Fifth? faceplant.
So, please, don't tell me it's about PvPing, when people who are PvPers will actively AVOID engaging one character simply so that they can take out another one that they know will be coming near sooner or later.

I'll attack someone a few times even if they don't fight back. The first few times could simply be me getting the drop on them and killing them before they can find me to retaliate.

Actually, I'd assume that for someone playing a stalker it can be difficult to tell the difference between someone who doesn't fight back and someone who's just inexperienced and not used to the tempo yet.

I think that's where the fundamental disagreement is; just what agreeing to this "competition" involves.
Some (mainly the PvPers, unsurprisingly) seem to think it's an agreement to actively participate in PvP.
Others (the badge/temp hunters, natch) regard it more as an acknowledgement that they're fair game, but not an obligation to do something they don't want to.
As I'm sure you've guessed, I fall into the second camp. In favour of that argument I'll point out this is a game I pay money to play, so I feel at liberty to ignore any bits of it I don't enjoy.
