I should be writing, instead I'm informing Stasis on literary knowledge. I won't embarress her by saying what I've had to correct her on though.

You are wrong though. He wore all black and kept his face hidden behind a false beard. We all know what that means. Ninja!

No! It means he was the infamous Greybeard, The Pirate King!

One of them is very, very good. She wrote it in 40 hours, which by NaNo standards is quite slow .

Aw you could have left me my illusions!

I suppose, if you were all set to start writing at midnight and just go at it non-stop, it wouldn't be too hard to get it done that quick. But people with jobs and families and lives would find it a little more difficult...

On another subject... I don't suppose anybody here knows anything about natural childbirth? I want to have a sort of midwifery scene for one of my characters but I don't know anything about childbirth personally (and have no wish to either!)

*fingers crossed this doesn't desolve into a flamewar*

I can't stand it when people use that terminology to describe a differing lifestyle. Someone who can write from midnight onwards non stop has no less a life than someone who goes out with friends for the same amount of time.

Now that's done with, I have no knowledge of childbirth or babies or anything beyond how one is made - so can't help there .

OK, sorry that's my fault for typing quickly while I shouldn't be on forums at work. I meant complicated varied and busy lives. If you can spare forty hours straight (or more or less straight) on one thing, then I'd assume it's not complicated. Either that or you're astoundingly organised.

Either way, I am massively jealous of anyone who can do that.

Looking good so far mate! Just don't forget to add zombies, clowns, ninjas, pirates, naked women, and maybe dinosaurs before you're done. Can't BELIEVE so many "serious" writers miss something so obvious

[/ QUOTE ]
Hehe thanks. I have to be honest, I can't promise most of that stuff but there are cool things ahead provided motivation/procrastination over other things holds out. I really want to give a clue about the middle section but if I gave it away I'd have a negative modifier to all subsequent motivation checks.

do what the excitable teenagers do and google it! just make sure not to go on images. That will just be something that'll horrify anyone. lol. but that's kinda my suggestion. Lik e search. "Child birth midwifes" or something like that. Something that makes it more specific btu not too specific fro teh search to not find anything. all I can really offer really. I'm only 19 and male at that. Good luck.

This sounds like the old "You have no life because you spend your time on the computer, unlike all of us who get plastered at the weekend and can't even remember what we did." argument. So according to that, I have no life, whereas they do.

Ahem. I think I'll stick with my lack of life then.

Most people can write 50,000 words in one/two hours a time. Busy people can usually find a lot more free time to work in than those of us with holiday etc. as we've always 'More important' things to be doing, like feeding the cat etc.
Like Stase said, one girl did it in 40 hours. There's been many success stories of people having a little 'me' time in the loo, writing on a notepad.

In the end, all you get is a novel. That's worth a lot to a lot of people; and just words to others.

Similar thing with a level 50 really. Or a season ticket to the Foxes.

Thanks Chiefy, looks useful.

I will probably get around to looking on teh intarwebs for research, but I couldn't do it at work. The forums look similar enough to our web-based email system for me to get away with posting here though!

Ah well, tis just meant to be a fun exercise anyway.

New exceprt is up at least, following on directly from the last one.

I'm hoping to get a more substantial amount done shortly as well.

Hmm, anyone in London know what the announcement is for pulling into Liverpool Street Station via Central line?

The first line of my novel is
"The next station is Liverpool Street. Changes here for the Circle, Bakerloo and Hammersmith and City lines, and National Rail Services."

To think I just heard it 2 days ago and forgot... :<

Transcribed it tonight...

The next station is Liverpool Street. Changes here for the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City lines, and National Rail Services.

So you just need to change Bakerloo for Metro and you are safe from tube-friendly pedantry!

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

HOW FRUSTRATING!

It's most of the way through day 2 and I still haven't written anything!

I was struggeling to think of a reasonable start, walked the dog, thought of one, got back, was about to write, then my best friend's recently dumped girlfriend rang up. YOu can pretty much workt he rest out. Surfice to say, my day of writing has been brutally murdered! However, I will not sleep until I have written stuff.

Oh man! Stop scaring me with your daunting counts!
