Hmm, might give you all a head start, then bash out a 50k chunk of awesomeness over the final week.

(What? I've done 20k on "What is History" over a weekend before now, so something that is actually fun should be fairly easy.)

*This post was brought to you as That Smug Sunnova... who you just have to make sure you beat

PS Might enter, not sure. Will see if I can come up with an idea, fit it around jobhunting. Good luck to all the entrants whether I do or not though.

BTW Cappie, it's November now

Unfortunately Cap, you've missed the sign up dates. Doesn't mean you can't do it independantly I guess!

On another note, I wrote nothing yesterday! Disaster! I started feeling UNBELIEVABLY rough, so decided (perhaps not in my greatest moment of wisdom) tha I'd lie down ot let my stomach settle, then bash some words out... And I fell asleep! I'm just glad I've got the afternoon off today!

For some reason when I was translating NaNoWriMo rules to Finnish three years back I got this same impression, which is in fact wrong. You can sign up at any point during November, even on the last day.

So Cap, keep those ideas churning and then lash them out on a keyboard. Join the fray and fight for those daily quotas!

Okay. New chapter today, slightly different point of view to go.

Today's plan is to reveal the enemy, ensure that our protagonist gains credibility after years in the wilderness and drop in the mystery of what is really behind the enemy.

There will be absolutely no mention of unicorns in this chapter though

Dickens has had his first mention in my story! Of course, I'm now hoping that simply by including his name, he's going to shine his talent on me and help me produce some really fantastic prose. Or, he's going to curse me for taking his style, running with it and promptly dropping it off a bridge...

And woo! I also get to mention Jack The Ripper (the story of which I've been fascinated with for yonks), which should add another 1k to the word-count.

And, and...Doctor Who..! Ok, maybe not Doctor Who. But still, lots of nifty, cheating, historical get-out clauses for my book.

I have to say though, I'm fed up with padding already. I have a horrid feeling that I'm going to end up deleting the whole thing in December, as my internal editor comes back from Coventry (it shuts him up) and despairs over what I've done.

47,717 words to go.

I've got most of the first battle scene nailed (how close to the actual beginning it is is yet to be determined) and have made a good start on the opening. Some of the descriptive feels a bit fattening at the moment but I'm not going to start picking at it at this stage. My plan is to just let the words come as they come and then fix the nasty bits in a week or two by mounting a Stalinesque purge of adjectives.

Editors are discouraged - I've already had to put mine down after he made me restart last night. I'm glad he did though, because the word's just didn't stop flowing.

Finished the first chapter, now to finish chapter 2.

I guess the current count is about 2300 or so. Lot's to go still.

Dude, I'm on zero! But it's ok, because an extra lesson was cancelled. ANd I spent the other two planning this anyway!

Question is though, do I start with a battle,a brief glimpse at the history, or a cryptic saying that will alter become clear and then go into the battle? The problem I'm facing is that I need people to be unwaveringly on the side of my main characters, so when a certain situation comes to light, they'll be inclined to stay with them... if that makes any sense! I'm trying not to reveal the plotline!

As people may see, the first chapter of Dark Heart is up on the Creative boards (along with my fine, fine pictures). Seeing as what's in there was originally only meant to be a third of the first chapter, I'm feeling confident about at least hitting the halfway mark.

And of course, nobody's critiqued it, because it's perfect.

Annnnnnnnd relax.

Hit my daily goal, now I can settle in for some good ol' panicking about just how much I have yet to do. But at least I don't have to write anymore today!

You don't have to, no.... but if you did write more today, then you'd have even less to do tomorrow. If you keep that philosophy going for another week then you'll have finished (or burnt yourself into a stressed out husk, I can't remember).

And I'm going to play the game for a couple of hours when I get home tonight. When I'm soloing, I tend to end up waiting between mob groups for my health/end to go back up (damn you SR, I'll master you yet). Normally, I'll pick up a book to read at that point or browse the forums.

Now I'm battering through a couple of paragraphs and then at some point the story grips me and I have to just fire through it.

Fun either way though

Looking good so far mate! Just don't forget to add zombies, clowns, ninjas, pirates, naked women, and maybe dinosaurs before you're done. Can't BELIEVE so many "serious" writers miss something so obvious

I should be writing, instead I'm informing Stasis on literary knowledge. I won't embarress her by saying what I've had to correct her on though.
