I want a super refer-a-friend program, to go with my superhero game. I want it to be the best refer-a-friend program in the industry, just like we have the best community, SSK, leveling pacts, and the countless other innovations that this game has that makes playing with friends easier, and more fun that any other MMO.

Screw settling for second best. I want other game developers getting hauled over the coals by their boss, to face up to a "why the hell didn't you come up with that?"
  2. I suspect the answer to a lot of these suggestions/ideas is "Love it, can't afford it". The budget for marketing CoX is likely to be fairly small, so the emphasis would be on cost-effective, small, targeted campaigns to bring in some new players. Bring in enough, and you can start to look at the higher risk/higher reward strategies.

I'll repeat it again - reward us (in game, or with free play time, or both) for bringing in new players, support us with eye-catching material, and implement a method for measuring the referrals, and the great community we have will likely come up trumps, and hopefully bring in enough new subscriptions to pay for more extravagant ideas.
  3. Greetings fellow ebil marketing person!

The CoX community does indeed rocketh a multitude of socks. So empower us to bring players into the game, and encourage them to stay. A great example of how to do it well - WoW's RAF program. Unique mount for the referrer, plus a month free once the friend has paid for three months, increased levelling speed when teamed with your referrabuddy, a teleport to buddy temp power, and the option to gift levels to characters on the referrers account. Limited to 5 different buddies per main account, but on a rolling basis.

Transfer that to CoX, and let us bring people to you, and reward us for doing your job for you Will need some dev time (xp boost while teamed, the unique reward for the referrer etc). I can offer anecdotal evidence that this brought people into the game (as well as encouraging multiple accounts for completionists *ahem*), by the people I recommended to the game.

Now that I've given you a freebie, I would echo the calls for some clarity on the plans for us lovely Europeans - especially moves to give us more access to a wider playing base (and some equality with you 'mericans when it comes to character slots).

Welcome to the boards, black pebble.
  4. To be honest, anything less than physically coming round to my house, telling me the news, then making me a brew and doing a spot of tidying up is a Slap In The Face.
  5. 9 months in the costume creator, then they get to go through Breakout? Congrats
  6. Phasing tech could be altered slightly, to allow for more dynamic zones, whilst still allowing the non-linear nature of COH to shine through - have the phase for a team set dynamically according to the leader's phase. Other teammates are assigned to that phase while they are on the team - while solo, they use their own progress to determine the phase. Some handwaving would be needed (hopping between temporal streams, etc) to explain how you can see different parts of the story in a different order, depending on how much (and who with) you team.
  7. Not really, I'm sure it's all just a storm in a teacup, but it's been brewing for a while.
  8. Arrest first, ask questions later, I care not for the finer points of the justice system. I just want a nice cup of Ceylon, perhaps with a ginger biscuit while I take two minutes off from bringing Lobster style heroics.

Squids, Lusca, I couldn't care less for equality. I want lobster form teacups, and perhaps a hipflask, and an end to this blatant racism!
  9. My dear Doctor Paradox, I had not thought of that! Those crafty devs consider everything!

Hmm. I shall retire to my thinking place, and come back with a new idea to force their hand at dismantling this racist prejudice!
  10. Potato, tomato.

I just want to drink tea, dammit!
  11. Ladies and Gentlemen of the forums, it has just come to my attention that the drink tea emote does nothing while in Black Dwarf form.

I urge all free-thinking people to join my campaign to find some tea, and throw it into some docks if the Devs don't address this vile racist slur immediately! I don't know what they have against space lobsters drinking tea, but we are supposed to be an enlightened City of Heroes, goddammit!

(fortunately, the protest emote does work in Lobstah form).
  12. Rabble Rabble Rabble.

Imagine the following announcement from a red name:

    Quote:
    Hi you lovely European folks.

Some of you have been rabbling round the forums, getting all in a tizz about the state of the EU game. We love how much you care, and the ideas you've put forward to help us make sure you get the best CoX experience. So, here's the dealio:

We don't have any plans to close the EU servers. You guys are cool.
We'd love to give you access to the US server list, without losing any of the hard work you've put into the game, but there's a whole load of technical reasons that make it difficult to do. So, we're working on ways to get there, but until we do, you'll have to sit tight I'm afraid. Yes, it sucks, but we have to balance looking into this with producing the great content you pay us for, including Going Rogue. We probably could do some things in the interim, but you'd lose things like bases and supergroups, and we'd prefer to do it right.

So, no change for the time being, we'd love to merge the server lists, but it'll take a while (probably after Going Rogue). Will you still love us?

    Red Name
Personally, if I saw that, I'd be happy enough. Actually, I'm happy enough anyway, as I just pretend to myself that a red name already posted it. Try it, it helps.

    *gets back to the game*
  13. What's going on in here then?

    Rabble rabble rabble.
  14. Hehe afro - O2 boost > gale, and as O2 boost contains some antimez properties as well as the heal, getting stimulant or aid other would be a waste, so I picked one at random to unlock aid self

Here's my probable power picks for my new storm/sonic, who is currently at level 6. I've gone for a more blasty approach, trying to get the most debuffing I can fit into the build. Only power that I really, really can recommend you try to fit into your build is screech - a ranged stun, with one of the longest -res components, it's absolutely marvellous in PvE and PvP, and would sneak the spot taken by resuscitate if I were to tweak your build.

Leadership toggles may be an issue end wise - when you have the storm toggles up at the same time, there is a fair ol' amount of the blue stuff being used.
  16. Well, I'm now set up with two toons for pugging it up - Eucharista, my rerolled sonic/en blaster, and Velour Fog, the ever so slightly inspired by Zapp Brannigan/Will Shatner Storm/Sonic defender.

Fellow lowbies of Union, feel free to invite me to teams

(Be warned though, Velour Fog is a veritable feast of binds )
  17. Ahoy hoy Unionites!

You may remember the 1AT from such supergroups as the Precision Rangers, Union Overlords and SNHS...

but seriously, we are looking for an influx of new blood in preparation for I9, and as such you will be seeing:

Swarms of 1AT folks on brand new lowbie toons tearing up the Hollows oldschool style!
    TFs galore!
PvP action in BB, Sirens and more!

You'll also be seeing some more activity round these parts, instead of at our swanky and spamtacular forums at http://forums.guysrealm.be/forum/index.php

So, if you fancy wearing the chest symbol of some of Union's finest SGs, look out for Eucharista (that would be my new blaster), or anyone from one of these fine SGs:

    Precision Rangers - Blasters
    Union Overlords - Controllers
    SNHS - Defenders
    Armoured Core - Tanks
    Team GBH - Scrappers
    Cosmic Justice - Kheldians

(and yes, this does mean the Captain is back. Where is my rum?)
  18. >.>

Was just passing, and well, it isn't union without a PR thread on the first page. Gorram slackers.

In other news - PR commander Byte hit 50! Grats!
  19. Captain_Morgan_EU

    Duckdee's 50!

Worthy of a visit from the pirate

Massive congratulations to the man who is a constant inspiration to me. I was deeply deeply honoured to be part of your ding team.

Much love to my favourite duck.

    Illusion/Empath

Yep, looks ok to me (I took assault/tactics instead of res/flash in my current build, and hover/fly instead of hasten/ss) but should be fine soloing, and great for team support.

Decieve is very, very nice if you can fit it in, with a 2acc, 1recharge slotting, so possibly something to consider instead of the res?

Also, you can probably gain some slots by taking the heals out of regen aura - it's incredibly good unslotted, and would allow you to stick the extra slot to max out spectral wounds, and heal other. Spectral Terror is awesome, experiment with the slotting - I currently have 1acc, 1 fear, 1 recharge in mine, which would probably work even better on yours, as you have hasten.
  21. Hmm, might give you all a head start, then bash out a 50k chunk of awesomeness over the final week.

(What? I've done 20k on "What is History" over a weekend before now, so something that is actually fun should be fairly easy.)

*This post was brought to you as That Smug Sunnova... who you just have to make sure you beat

PS Might enter, not sure. Will see if I can come up with an idea, fit it around jobhunting. Good luck to all the entrants whether I do or not though.
  22. Captain_Morgan_EU

    Just thanks :D

Was lots and lots of fun, especially the chance to spout off proper trashtalk over broadcast without being interrupted, and without it degenerating to ZOMGROFLCAPS/noobcalling.

Antimuon will be evading justice again in sirens soon™

Special thanks to Crimson Cannon, for his multiple failed attempts to get me to shut up, and for killing me just after I had proclaimed my greatness
  23. 1) Perception boosting powers - tactics, clear mind, clarity, focused accuracy, focused senses etc etc.

    2) Concealment pool is the only way to increase negative perception - stealth, invisibility and grant invisibility are useful tools if you want to rely on being "hidden"

    3) Both work. Ninjitsu is probably better suited to the classic hit and run playstyle. Regen is better suited to dealing with tough targets that take more than one/two hits. Personally i prefer regen for stalkers. (ninjas suck, pirates rule!)

    4) Fitness pool, mobility is king, perhaps concealment.

    5) There are four zones for PVP - Bloody Bay caters to the 15-25 bracket, Sirens to 20-30, Warburg for 30-38, and Recluse's Victory to 40-50. If you are over the range, you get exemped to the maximum combat level, if under, you get boosted up to make the fights as "fair" as possible.

Hope that helps. (dark/regen should be pretty damn funky for PvP - touch of fear and the -acc from the standard attacks makes you a lot harder to hit, but with the full backup of the regen heals if they do)
  24. You can get the blast and the hold, but skip the others from Mako - the pet is quite frankly rubbish, and the waterspout is fun, but you probably won't use it that much.

I'd probably build something like the following, although I'm not entirely happy with it, the slotting should be fine - I'd possibly take a couple of slots out of spirit shark to put into some of the other attacks, but it should work either way. The build you have posted, will really struggle to level, as you have the grand sum of 1 attack apart from brawl and assassin's strike until 26, with placate coming at 24.

  25. Looks pretty good, aidself is where I'd put it, same with grounded - I'd get Rage at 22, then LR at 24. Only power I wouldn't take is Weave - you don't really have any defence for it to stack with, which allows you to bump lightning field 3 levels earlier, and pick a fun power at 47 - perhaps one of your patron powers? The immob would be my choice, for keeping them in place for LF to destroy them with.
