Defenders will likely get /Fire Blast when they get /Thermal Radiation.
However, the Devs are already giving Thermal Radiation to the Masterminds. I guess they decided they didn't want to cop out and give another AT the same proliferation. Scrappers and Tankers both getting Electric Melee and Electric Armor was bad enough...

For me the concept actually came out of the i16 customization - the idea of coloring fire blasts white and making them holy fire. What to pair that with, though? Why gold-tinted empathy, of course. The gods aren't too pleased with all of the villains nowadays, you see.

The only thing I think I want more than Empathy / Fire Blast would be Empathy / Fire Manipulation (or Fire Manipulation / Empathy, depending on how an AT like that might be designed).
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.

One of the very first characters I wanted to make was a cleric/priest type named Father Marcus (based on an old D&D character), who I wanted to be Empathy/Fire. This was 5 years ago. Much to my dismay /Fire was not available for Defenders, and I instead used Dark (with the concept modified to be a fallen priest). It just didn't have the right feel and I deleted him shortly thereafter.
I saw the fire attacks as holy fire

Once in every so many issues, the devs come in and acknowledge that this forum exists. Anything more and then we really start to question why Vigilance hasn't been changed to benefit defenders. 
And Castle, add in +recharge(helps damage, but not in a broken way) and make Vigilance work solo and the vast amount of hate toward Vigilance would be gone.

My Fire/Pain Corruptor is named Searing Solace. It's not that out of character. Especially now we can sync up the colors.
