Has AE made bad players?

Northeastern end of PI is Portal Corp in it's entirety - which includes the no-longer-there RWZ portal outside, and the Shadowshard portal inside.

Nope - they also had a gate to the crash site in PI. It was to right of the center PC building.
And I meant Crash site, not RWZ

LoL My bad.
I was thinking he said "northeast end of Portal Corp", which is where the RCS portal was.
Oops

What are these players doing that you can't explain to them how to improve?

*plays devil's advocate advocate*
None, and the best way to help them improve is by telling them they should reroll, go through the tutorial and read what's written, then play up to level 20 before touching AE again.

For me, even that is not enough to play your toon well.
When I first hit 50 with my first toon, a vet told me to trash her because "an Emp/Archer is a crappy AT, low dmg, slow activation, and weak heals." It hurt to hear because I loved playing my toon from 1-50, Atlas to PI, through lots of TFs and Trials. However, I took it as a challenge. After 6 Respecs, over a billion spent on Enhancements used or tossed, hours of testing and tweaking over 2 builds, I feel that I've reached a point where she's really DOING something well out there in Paragon. She's def. considered an asset among teammates and TF buddies on various tasks from killing GMs to running a LGTF. What I like about my toon is that she's kinda an underdog. Someone I have to work and work and work to compensate for weaknesses, and rejoice in her victories.
The thing about "ae babies" is that they're often toons that are about easy xp or easy win. I see so many of the same ATs played in the same way. There's no such thing as an "all defender" farm in AE, because the defenders are built so one-sided, they can't handle aggro or do any sort of dmg.
Long story short: It takes a lot of work and experience (not xp) to play a 50 well. There's no way you can provide all that in a simple explanation to a newbie.
Triumph Lurker: mintmiki 50 emp/archer
basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.
Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.
I wouldn't say bad players, just inexperienced. If all they've done is AE missions, they've only seen maybe 5-10% of the total game. They really are missing out if that's all they are doing. There are some great missions, fun story arcs, and overall a more fun and enjoyable experience outside the AE. Not to say that some AE missions aren't fun, either.
I think the concern here is more of a grooming nature than a bad player issue. Most of us older players just don't want to get back into teaching the game when the regular game does a great job at it, by itself. The learning curve is almost ridiculously easy for most power sets, so it's almost a no brainer to some of us.
But, on the other hand, if they're happy doing it and will continue to pay to play like the rest of us, then who am I to argue?

Anyways, I had the same thing said to me about my SR scrapper. "u should reroll cuz sr sucks"
This was before IOs (I think I got that tell back in Issue 7); now my SR scrapper is softcapped on all three positions. I can be petty sometimes when it comes to people like this, and I really wish I could meet that person again just so I could laugh at them.

This is sad, sad news... why?... Because if that's truly the case I have 3 very weak toons... lol
Yes, I do have 3 (50) emp/arch toons and each of the three are slightly different at their end build but pretty much the same toon make up over all... All pre-IO too and are in need of some lovin'...
So... I must be a fairly patient person if I've rolled 3 emp/arch 'fenders and rolled them all they way up to place them high on a shelf and only taking them down occassionally to dust them, run a few GM, AV or TF's and then place them neatly back upon their shelf until called upon once again!
I'm always happy to answer questions if/when I can... I'm not the technical type when it somes to playing the game.. I can't tell you the soft caps or the hard caps . I can however tell you if your toon looks like Andy Capp and that sometimes I don't give a crap, I can help you learn to read a map, I wanna take a nap...
Oh, snap!

and/or think they have the right to ask other players about how to play the game after they just blew through all the content that would have taught them everything they needed to know.
[/ QUOTE ]
They have that right. It's unfortunate they skipped all the content just to get fifty, but if they show even the slightest willingness to learn how to play the game and you blow them off, then frankly, you're part of the problem.
I don't like the "part of the problem" categorization... that's a paranoid view of the world. All those not with me are against me, and so forth. If you ABUSE them perhaps you are part of the problem. If you attempt to help them you are part of the solution. Otherwise you are no more "part of the problem" than the pen on my desk.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Got an even better story today. I was in Atlas and I had a new toon I needed to train to 13. So I go to Miss LIberty and train. There is a low toon there that broadcast on local - "I just came out of AE and leveled. Can you tell me where the trainers are?" He is standing RIGHT IN FRONT of Miss Liberty.
Maybe they should put a trainer and enhancement store in the building - then they would never have to leave.

Boy oh boy do I have a treat for you all ...
I was in PI on my lvl 50 Fire/Kin taking out some Rikti Monkies for the Zoo Keeper badge when I got a random tell asking me "Have any room on team for a lvl 49 blaster?"
I was in a pretty good mood and the tell was actually in english as opposed to that damn "1337 5p34k" junk, so I said "Sure " and invited him.
So he joins the team and I say that I'm in PI hunting monkies for the badge. I tell him to make his way over to PI and take out some with me. He replies with "Okay."
So I'm sitting on the docks waiting for him to zone.
Five minutes pass.
Ten minutes pass.
I start to get a tick in my neck and I see he hasn't moved from Atlas, so I decided to ask him if he was coming or not. He replies with, "The mission won't let me in."
O.o
Thinking it was an error in reading, I tell him that I'm in Peregrine Island, not Atlas Park.
Once again he aknowledges and says he's on his way.
Another 10 minutes passes and he still hasn't budged from Atlas. I assume he's AFK or helping a friend or whatever so I ask him again, "Hey, are you coming?"
He then proceeds to go off at me saying that he can't enter the mission and that he'd been trying the entire time. I explain once again that I was in Peregrine Island, not Atlas Park. More of his clueless banter and me trying to explain to him. He doesn't listen so I just tell him good luck and quit team.
I thought it was over.
Wrong.
He abused me via tell for the next 20 minutes calling me a noob and many other racial and insulting names.
If thats not a perfect example of someone who isn't willing to learn, then strap a crayon to my head, dress me in drag and call me Rayne's thrustpuppet.

LMFAO while ROFFL... HAHA this is hilarious. I have a story kinda similiar to this. I had just logged on the other day and was hanging out in AP waiting for a few pple. Thats when I was approached by a lvl 48 tank.. we talked for a little bit, and at the end of the convo he asked me how to get to Steel Canyon.. and then once there where the tailor is located. I first told him to use the in game map. He said "There'es a map!?" So I sent him to the hollows, he came back, then to perez... again he came back. This time he was upset.. I told him I had been drinking and had gotten confused. (which was a lie) So I opened up a Ouros portal and told him he could def. get there via Ouros, and in he went. Never saw nor heard from him again. At that lvl u SHOULD KNOW how to get to the different zones, and at the very least know what to expect once u get there. No excuse for this. sorry but there'es not

Question:
Does anyone feel that the issue has been at least reduced since the Mito farms were fixed? I see a lot of boss farms on broadcast, but they tend to either be looking for Brutes or Kins above 35 or so. I haven't hung out around the AE much lately, myself.

I do believe the 'broadcasting' has been reduced as well as possibly the activity itself...
But, IMHO the damage is done!
Eh, most of these idiots would have gotten frustrated with the game and quit for some dumb reason anyway. If you're that incapable of listening to people, you're not gonna get far in this game.

I think he was talking about Twilight's Howl or a Transference. Either way, he didn't really appreciate an Emp's power to heal, let alone buff.
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, I do have 3 (50) emp/arch toons
[/ QUOTE ]
Having a "weaker" toon has made me into a much better player. Although I have done what I can to build a better toon with IOs and power choices, a huge amount of what my toon can or cannot do depends on how I play her. It took tons of practice to figure out the best way to play my toon's abilities. That's the point, a point that AE toons don't get. That's why they often quit when the going gets tough. There are many times when I've had AE babies quit on me after one team wipe (in the first mish, when everyone's PUG and still figuring out how to mesh) or are unable to survive through a single mish without a certain type of support toon. I see these toons again and again on various PUG teams and they never seem to improve much. Why should they? They can always go back to the safe and boring world of AE farms.
There's a lot to be said about the value of strategy and teamwork, which are things that are learned with patience and commitment.
I love my toon, I love making her better, and thus I have made a gal with "garbage-worthy" AT into something that is JUST PLAIN AWESOME!

Lately I've been on teams with people who are in the late 40's or even 50 levels and just don't know how the hell to play the game. Then you ask them and they are like 'Oh I got the game 4 days ago and farmed AE to get these levels. Also, what's an enhacement?'
Some of them really seem to know how to play and I give them credit for it, but some play so stupidly bad its actually funny.
One team I was on with my 50 tank, the leader and team was so dumb I actually had to stay on the team just to be amused at how stupid some of them really play.

Here's a shining example of a new player that was PL'd:
He was broadcasting a "Giant Monster Hunt AE team! 8 spots open, make 50,000+ at L48!"
He was a 20 something character, no vet badges, and showed clear signs of being an AE PL. Also of course:
1. Can't have 8 open spots on a team since you yourself are a spot already taken.
2. I don't see the GM's in the AE yet, last I'd heard was they were trying to set them to be used only on outdoor maps due to their size.
To be honest I do have some plot ideas revolving around the GM's so they day they show up in AE is the day I'm a happy author.
