A Fix for Farming...

Ok...I don't think this has been suggested yet...at least I hope not

To fix farming without making drastic changes to the way the MA works, and at the same time revitalize an old zone that hasn't seen use in some time, the devs could remove ALL AE buildings from the rest of the game and put a single, unmarked, building containing the MA in the Shadow Shard.

Also make the Shadow Shard a coop zone and give the villains access...
I can just imagine the lowbies trying to navigate those stupid jump things.

Isn't there a level 40 restriction on the zone?

Yes there is a level 40 restriction on the zone. . . and as far as people getting around there, I garuntee you people would learn how to do it on lowbies, same as the did with PI (that or get teleported) but the important thing is it would no longer be easily accessable to new players. . .

First time players would still see the content before they run into "Oh yeah, there is this way to go from 1-50 in under 7 hours of game play. . ." sorta like we all learned with the old drek farm, and werewolves and such. . .

The devs are not going to block the AE from new players. It's heavily been advertised as an alternative levelling method.

I see this working about as well as the reichsman SF has for popularizing Masterminds in lowbie teams.

You could also remove the building's roof and windows and plop it into Siren's Call, Warburg or RV. Tada!! Instant cross-faction access to the AE, other than the RWZ.

You're suggesting that I've got to be at least level 40 to use the AE since it would be exclusively in the Shadow Shard.

Very Bad idea. Sorry.

Last but not least, it pays to do a little research on the zone before making a suggestion like this, seeing that you expected to see lowbies in there.

My idea is as follows;

1: Remove all enemy instagib from the AE building area.
2: Rework Rikti Dropship routes so that they go through the AE buildings. (if desired, re-design the buildings to include circular dropship-sized war-wall type shields)
3: Initiate Rikti invasion weekends as desired.
4: ???
5: profit!

Quite obviously you'd need to remove the level restriction on the zone.
And even more obvious is the fact that this isn't a serious solution, but more of a way to get people to think outside their tiny little box.
Ah well....

one issue anyhow. The Hero side jetpack vendor is in the shard. so theyd never have to use those silly jets.

Though I wish our vendor wasnt in the damned shard. ><

Co-op zoning the Shadow Shard is a good idea.
And, yeah, with level 40 access the low level players would have a hard time getting around - they couldn't get in at all. So there would be no level 1-50 activity as only level 40-50 could be involved with the MA/AE.
That would stop the power-leveling completely, but not the farming - however, it, at least, would not be in the lower level zones.

Other than conceptually not really fitting in the Shadow Shard - it would have been a great idea when the MA/AE was first released.
Now that people have worked on level 1-39 content, it seems a bit late to chop out 4/5th of the content.

My solution is here - https://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthre...SID=&fpart=

It'd also kill the idea of using the AE for anything except farming, really, but oh well?

Once again, the ideas are terrible no matter how many threads you post them in.

I see no indication in your original post that implies the suggestion being serious or not so how were you expecting me to not take it seriously?

I'm sure there's a good reason there's a level restriction for the area too, one of them being perhaps to prevent lowbies from beng able to buy raptor packs there and thus invalidating the incentive to do the safeguard mission to get it.

Last but not least Peregrine Island isn't intended for lowbies anyway. I'd imagine it's hard enough running past snipers there to get to Portal Corp without getting one-shotted.

That's the point isn't it? Making the AE less accessible to lowbies. People that ALREADY have high level toons will know about it and may indeed still use it to farm.
But people just starting out in the game will have no idea where it's at or how to get to it. Nor will they be bombarded with broadcasts for farming teams the instant they leave the tutorial.
As for the jet pack vendor and what have you, move it. Nobody likes it being in the shard anyways, so I see no reason why it would have to remain there.

Apart from creating story arcs, the AE is also intended for an alternative means to get from level 1 to 50, so I don't see such a restriction as realistic.

A suggestion was made on another thread to remove the AE buildings from lowbie areas like AP or Galaxy for blue-side's case and leaving them to higher levelled and easily accessible areas like Steel Canyon once new players have had ample time to learn the ropes. I think this is much more feasible.

There is a point, and a very good one, for the jetpack vendor being in the Shard. It's for high levelled players to be able to fly: the best method of travel for the Shard if they don't have the flight pool.

As for nobody wanting to be in the Shard, I wonder if you've come across people wanting to get their rularuu weapons?

I never said nobody at all wanted to be in the shard, I simply said nobody wanted the jet pack vendor in the shard. Reading comprehension is a good thing.
And yes, that IS me making a generalization that may not be accurate.
The AE as an alternate means to 50...great! That means farming is ok right? Along with all the other problems it creates.

The one doesn't automatically follow from the other, though.

The developers have good reason to be vested in MA being usable from 1-50. They didn't have to design it that way, but they did.

So, I'm thinkin' any future adjustments probably aren't going to involve handicapping accessibility, unless they've exhausted all other options.
