MA killed the game... COH revolves around AP

iam a 24 vet player, and now my 50s have nothing to do. i go to PI and no one there, then to RWZ and nothing. finally i step into Atlas Park and everyone is there doing boring farms. Game should be renamed to "City of Atlas Park AE". Since most players are in one building trying to Power Level.

Even if i try to stay away from AE, i still can't find or get enough people to do regular missions... Gonna have to move on to another game looks like...

Giving the answers you won't likely read:

- join an SG
- join your global chats
- form your own teams
- use the server forums (below) to organize events

I play on Justice as well as Freedom, and in both servers there is plenty of:

- /broadcasts for 'regular mish teams'
- Task Forces/Strike Forces
- GM monster teams assembling
- Regular AE non-farm /broadcasts

And the like. If your server stinks, join or transfer to Justice/Freedom. I'm on freakin' late in the night (12 midnight to 3am eastern time) ,and I can still get teams to do non-AE stuff. And if all else fails, join a good active SG, there are plenty out there. Mine does all sorts of crap not related to AE farms. Good luck.

Yes, I like Force Fields.

While I don't like what others are using the AE for (it's their $15/mo, so I can't tell them not to), I DO like that the players tend to centralize in one area. That makes it SO easy for me to go to AP and /b

[broadcast]Now inviting for Citadel TF. lvl 25+, rewards X merits, and is part of the Task Force Commander Accolade. PST for more info or for invite.

That fills easily half the team, and then i can use /search and send whispers to pick up the rest of what we need. Some of the folks there are so glad to get out of AE i can get a TF off the ground in 5 minutes or less.

On a funny note I was in Steel Canyon listening to someone whine about MA killing the game and no one running TFs any more. During that 10 mins I got a invite to the KTF and an ITF. There were also several people forming TFs in the usual channels. Naturally when I did a find on his toon he was set to "Not looking for a team", had nothing in his notes, and had no clue what a channel was.

It isn't really AE that is at fault here. What has happened is that the game has grown stale, and people have left it. Server populations are down quite a bit from even last year.

AE is what is keeping the game alive at the moment; people are able to find groups there without a huge amount of difficulty that would be the case otherwise. For example, Victory (Hero) is hovering around 150 to 250 people across all zones, while Protector (Villain) has gone as low as 88 during the day.

This is a common complaint throughout the boards, that it was AE that caused the current conditions, not that people are turning to AE because it's hard to get any entertainment waiting around for groups from the such a small and scattered populace - the actual problem.

It's also summer, and I don't know about you but for me that means that I'm going outside a heck of a lot more rather than sitting inside staring at my computer screen (not that I don't still do a lot of that anyway).

No... I don't think MA has killed the game, only enhanced it. It depends on how you intend to use it.

Sure, some will use it to "power level", but who cares. With all of my characters right now (granted I have only been playing the game for about 5 weeks), I have only played in one AE mission. in a group, and that's because two of my SG members needed some help. Other than that, I've been playing straight content... and loving it.

For me, I will go into AE, and I will build some custom missions, mostly so I can try something different... which was the reason I purchased CoH:AE in the first place.

The SG I am in pretty much plays standard content, and we like it that way it seems. A few toy with AE, but it's more just a "curiosity factor", and not much more than that.

The testament of a good SG, is it's members... if you can't get help, or for that matter you can't help others, then it may not be the team for you.

Finding a good SG is tough some times... I got lucky, because I think I got a pretty good SG I became a member of for my first experience on CoH.

It's a far cry from my old WoW Guild.

Can you guys suggest a server other then freedom (so much lag) or virute (not into RP). Any one that i can get a good standered mission team will make me happy. Also as stated before, AE didnt ruin CoX. I've played awsome story based arcs. I have a few im working on. unfortinally if it gives any reward such as xp, inf, badges, tickets, salvage, ect. It will be farmed if you were in villans around lvl 6 before AE everyone did bank farms. So its not the content but the way it is played. If you want zero farms they will have to turn CoX into a game where you are a blob of goo in a cardboard box, and your objective is to not move for 100,000,000,000,000 years. If you win you get a cookie, oh wait people can farm that too just leave your computer on for a long time. Well i guess there is only one way to fix this. Delete CoX from the world and never try to bring it back.

I have no problems getting teams on Justice, but then 90% of the time these are SG or folks from my global channels. TBH, while I think you can get a PUG at mid levels (20-35), I think lower levels can be difficult post AE.

Thx for the reply. I guess ill try justice if that doesnt work i'll just pick a random server. Also what server is the unoffical pvp server. i know virtute is the unoffical RP server. Also is it worth buying a server trasnfer or would it be better to role a new toon?

I rolled a character on Triumph after doing most of my other playing on Virtue, and was very impressed with the quality of the player base there. Just make sure to join whatever the current flavor of the TriumphWatch global channel is.

I won't say that AE killed the game, but I will say that it changed the environment probably more than anything else did. I've noticed less chatter in all the zones, with the exception of AP of course. And there is a difference in how easy/difficult it was to find teams. So there is definitely a change in the environment. I've never teamed with high-level people before who didn't understand basic concepts, but it's happened a couple times now. Whether this is a death knell or not, only time will tell. I don't think it is though.

Still, I may end up leaving sooner than I had anticipated. Playing any game for five years is a pretty good accomplishment. I came to CoX because I liked the superhero/comic book genre and the idea of making a superhero and controlling him/her was too sweet to resist. As time progresses, there's less and less emphasis on the genre by the player base. I fully expected that as I've seen it with every other MMO I've ever played for a length of time. When it reaches a point where it doesn't feel like a superhero game anymore, then I'll consider switching to another genre. Never any hard feelings though as my time here lasted longer than I had ever anticipated.

Justice is good; with minimal global friending and talking to folks when I see them, I can get up PUG teams when I want them, pretty much. A simple, "Hey there! Wanna team up for a bit?" to someone of the same (or nearly same) level works wonders.

Yes, a huge number of people are in AP (or Cap redside) spamming broadcast looking for [this week's AE exploit] runs. This is a good thing - the average IQ in every other zone in the game has gone up three standard deviations, my tells are mercifully free of 'r u kin?' and 'fil plz', and I haven't gotten a blind invite to a PL team in forever.

[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly.

There is a huge upside to this as well. It's like we got a whole new PI. I'm loving it. (and I don't really hate farming)

This is an experience I've been having lately.....

I have a dark defender at level 50 that I enjoy playing on occasion. I also enjoy building up my SG base. A couple items I want for the base require the SG healing badge (5,000,000 points of damage). I've logged on the last several days with the intention of finally getting that badge. Since our SG was just almost 99% complete, I figured a couple sessions with a high level team should easily let me hit 100%. I wasn't up for doing a task force and just wanted to get into a basic arc or radio mission team.

Over the last three days, I've moved the counter from almost 99% to 99.5%. Yes, I found some teams, but it was not easy. I'd be in PI and get tells saying "Want to help us fight an AV?" I'd say "sure!", accept the invitation, and see that everyone's in AP. AE missions don't contribute to non AE badges, so I'd tell them that, wish them luck, and quit.

Yes, I could form my own team. Yes, I could get on a task force. The environment within the game has changed pretty drastically though as before, I wouldn't have to manage a team or join a task force, I'd almost always be able to join an existing team. But they are more scarce now. If that's the direction the game is heading, then I'll easily accept that. But there's also nothing wrong with being honest and admitting that it's not an environment I like as much.

Infinity is also a good server to try. Join the Inf Badge Seeker channel, theres usually a LOT of Taskforces being ran out of there or random stuff. everything from the occasional pug, to tfs, to some occasional farms too

I find it boring for the most part and would rather play normal content anyway. This isnt to say i do not use it from time to time, just that I prefer exploring and moving from mission spot to mission spot. I grouped with a guy who leveled up to 40 in the MA and was waiting near the mission spot for 15-20 minutes for him to get there. Reason it took so long? He never took any travel powers, after all why do you need them if all you have to do is stand in one spot and move like 20 feet in either direction to get to your missioning?

Has it ruined the game? no, that was done a long time ago with the neglecting of level 50 things to do and borked pvp. Its just kept the gold farmers in one spot.

"Fun" is different for everyone. One of the things I like about MMOs is that you meet new people. It's boring if you only play with the same people all the time. Besides, my real-life friends don't play CoH, and debt isn't a concern to me. I rather enjoy PUGs because you never know what to expect. Even when you have a couple people playing badly, I look at the bright side and consider it a challenge to try to compensate for them. Being on an optimized team with the same people can feel like a rut because not much changes. And if you always blaze through missions with little risk of danger, it gets bland pretty quickly.

As for running my own groups.... I do that on occasion. But I'll honestly dislike it if I have to do it all the time. There are many times I'm burned out from work and tired, and want someone else to lead.
