Yeah... maybe that is the case. I like CoH and all, but perhaps it just isn't for me. That's okay, I tried it and gave it a good 6 month run through.

I am impressed with some of the stuff I've seen for "Going Rogue", but I think I am going to be happier on WoW.

Perhaps it's for the best, for me at least.
  2. I tried Villains, and couldn't really get into them. It's like the Horde vs Alliance thing in WoW. Some like one side, some the other. Different strokes for different folks.

To answer Siolfir, in a way there is... Zombies for me were the final straw. Just not interested.

Look, every game has it's fan base. The question remains to answer.

Would I recommend CoX to other gamers?

The answer is that yes I would. I would tell them about some of the problems I experienced, but would also inform them of the positive side of CoX and NC Soft.

I bought the Magic, Cyborg & Science packs, and don't regret doing so. I had some good experiences with CoX, and some not so good. For me though, the not so good outweighs the good. There's some other issues that I didn't mention, but those weren't so much concerning the game itself... but concerned the truly "ugly side" of gamers.

Look, I wish everyone well... if you enjoy your gaming experience, then I am truly happy for you. Play, enjoy and have fun. I have had some fun here, and who knows... I may decide to play again, but for now... financially I can only support one game, and for me I guess, that game is going to be World of Warcraft for now.

I think that CoX has a lot going for it... and the GM/customer service is a strong part of that.

Here, a zombie event lasts, what, maybe 15 minutes? and in only one or two zones at a time. In CoH, when the zombies come 'round and you don't like them: do an instanced mission, change zones, go to the safety of the tailor to work on that uber-look, buy/sell in Wentworths/Black Market, craft at the university. In a few minutes it will all be over and you can street fight again in better threads, richer, and with more power.

CoH zombies are not my favorite event (though I've done enough for the badges), so I usually do these activities to good benefit.

Sorry, but you should clarify why a brief zombie event here is "making for me, the game unplayable". Just saying "zombies" over and over without detailing the reason doesn't cut it in light of your other game choice.

Not trying to do a real comparison between games, just trying to understand in context of the "zombie" situation.

I do commend you for speaking to the good points that you liked, it is much easier to simply blast and leave. So kudos on that. And I wish you well in your return to what appeals to you.
No... Zombies didn't kill it for me. It was the final straw that broke the camel's back.

If everyone likes it, then that's fine... makes no difference to me. Personally, I do not.

If you read the original post (in it's entirety), it's a combination of things. Zombies are just a symptom of what I personally feel are some poorly laid out concepts. To just have "zombie attacks" is pretty pointless. If I wanted that, I'll watch a George A. Romero film.

Give me some good, driving story, and I'm hooked. Just "ZOMBIES ATTACK!!!"... not so good a hook.

Look, I just wanted to voice my opinion, that's all. Had to put it somewhere, so this is where I put it. Like I said, the Zombies thing is a symptom. Just like AE and it's becoming "power-level ground zero". It's a symptom... nothing more.

So, I voiced my opinion on an open forum. That's my right, and I think I did it professionally, and non-inflaming. I would hope that those who respond would do so in the same manner.

It's not a flame war I'm trying to start... just voicing one man's opinion.
  4. Okay, let me first preface this by saying I have only been playing CoH for about 5 month. I am in no way a noob to MMO's though. I had been playing WoW for 2½ years before I left it, to start playing COH. I also wanted to say that i didn't know where else to place this thread, since the place I wanted to put it won't let me, because I do not have

I have just recently (yesterday in fact) reactivated my WoW account, and I will probably leave CoH to go back to Azeroth for good.

The straw that broke the camel's back... ZOMBIES!!!

Okay, now that I have said that, I think I should explain further.

Problems that I have seen in the game for me are things like:
    • Missions that are repetitious; i.e. same layout, same target placement, etc.
    • Missions that keep sending me to "low level" areas to complete them: i.e. Get missions in Brickstown, only to be sent constantly to Atlas Park.
    • Constant Map Server issues (disconnects).
    • Too small a list of power sets: i.e. Why can't I have a scrapper with Martial Arts and Devices (or Traps)?
    • Constant graphics issues, live targets that get knocked through walls, or stuck in them (and now unable to target them).
    • Getting Knocked through walls (same issue as previous, but in reverse).
    • No Voice Client-I've had to spend extra money to get a Ventrilo server.
Now, with Zombies (and the attacks being extended beyond Halloween), This was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Now, there are some WINS here, so don't think this is all negative here.

Some of the WINS for me in CoH are:
    • Very helpful and professional GMs (had some great help when I've had issues to deal with, and relatively quick response time.
    • Fairly Friendly players, and show some decent respect for you if you tell them "no, but thank you for the invite".
    • Well thought out plot lines.
    • Heroes and Villains can "chat" with one another... no language barrier, other than possible real life ones (but none in-game).
    • Global Friends/Ignore List.
That being said, the final thing is Zombies. For me, it's making me regret spending money to be paid up until January 17th. Zombies are making for me, the game unplayable. If I stay in Cimerora, or AE (which I don't care for what AE has become, which is "Power Level Ground Zero"), I'm fine, other than that... Zombies.

Zombies are worse than the "Return of the Rikti Menace" ever was for me.

So, I've started playing WoW again. I'll probably play out my subscription through January, but I'll sign over my SG to one of my members. Not sure if I'll stay with CoH, but right now... Zombies are leaving me cold and disappointed.

I agree with the Baron here... I work in retail, and have for 22 years now. A January release makes more sense, at least financially.

With the boon in gift card sales in November & December at major retailers (I work for Target), a "Going Rogue" release in January would make a better chance to pay dividends.

Now, I would like to see "Going Rogue" released in two forms... with & without "Architect Edition"... but perhaps, that's just me.
  6. My favorite toon to date is Pulsar Knight (Guardian server). He's 34th now. I went Energy Blast/Energy Manipulation. Gives you good ranged and melee ability. Granted, like most blasters... you sacrifice defense in favor of offense.

Flight gives blasters a good edge. Energy Blast/Energy Manipulation is great for soloing, but can sometimes be frustrating in groups/task forces.

All in all though, I find it a solid combination.
  7. So, I know this may have been asked, do we even have a tentative date for Going Rogue?
  8. I think one of the big points to note about AE Farming is the "lazy factor".

AE Farming means you don't have to really travel beyond Atlas Park to level. You are more than likely part of an SG, so you can make enhancements/recipes in the base... get what you need to buy at Wentworths, never leaving the area in Atlas Park.

AE Farming is basically gaming laziness... and nothing more IMHO.
  9. This sounds like a good thing, and a bad thing as well.

With the recent rash of "Power-level the AE way", this will make it even easier for people to "power-level" through the use of AE. It will help the players who are actually playing original content as well, but it will remain to be seen how much.

I think "Going Rogue" is gonna help things more. With the introduction of new options and content, the "Going Rogue" expansion could see the balance of players going back to explore content, instead of parking their butts in AE, and spamming the Broadcast Chat with such things as "lvl 21 blaster lf ae team".

AE has become like Shattrath and Dalaran were for me in World of Warcraft. HUGE Lag pockets of doom. You want to make your system run choppy... go to AE during the evening hours.

    That'll do it.

Personally though, Positron... As a fairly new player to CoH/CoV (less than 3 months), I think the changes you have describe could be a possible windfall. Maybe people will be more likely to play in groups with these new changes, and the benefits they present to group play.

Now, if we could get an in-game voice chat client (instead of having to rely on things like Ventrilo, TeamSpeak... or in some cases I've heard of people using Skype... OUCH!!!), that would be a real boon for fans of CoH/CoV, and group play.

It was one of the really great benefits of WoW, and it enhances the group experience immensely.
  10. Zortel... That is some really good stuff, and I think very helpful for those who have never played any type of a role-playing game.

Pen & Paper RPGs are slightly different of course, and as a long time RPGer since 1978, I think that your basics here will show others how to adapt to the new environment of online RPGs.

Thank you for your solid examples, and helpful hints.

I for one appreciate you taking the time.

Oh, I firmly agree with you there Epic.

I'm tired of the constant spammings on the Guardian server, like...

"XX lvl blaster looking for AE team" or "Looking for an AE SG".

There are those of use that like the original content, and we are getting tired of the "power level through AE method" that has suddenly started to rear it's ugly head.
  12. So Niviene...

    1) Do we have a projected date for the Issue 16 release?
    2) Are we finally going to be able to create a Scrapper with Martial Arts and Gadgets?

    Just curious... and intrigued
  13. If it has a little more "functionality", and will allow me to put my website address up in my profile (which I cannot do now, because for some reason this forums settings will not recognize a "~")... then I'll be happy.

I'm only just starting to use this forum, and I've only been playing about 5 weeks now. I recently got away from World of Warcraft after 2.5 years of play.

I'm happy with my decision to play CoH... and I'm having a lot more fun with it, especially since I have recently joined an SG. The group is small right now, but fairly active.
  14. No... I don't think MA has killed the game, only enhanced it. It depends on how you intend to use it.

Sure, some will use it to "power level", but who cares. With all of my characters right now (granted I have only been playing the game for about 5 weeks), I have only played in one AE mission. in a group, and that's because two of my SG members needed some help. Other than that, I've been playing straight content... and loving it.

For me, I will go into AE, and I will build some custom missions, mostly so I can try something different... which was the reason I purchased CoH:AE in the first place.

The SG I am in pretty much plays standard content, and we like it that way it seems. A few toy with AE, but it's more just a "curiosity factor", and not much more than that.

The testament of a good SG, is it's members... if you can't get help, or for that matter you can't help others, then it may not be the team for you.

Finding a good SG is tough some times... I got lucky, because I think I got a pretty good SG I became a member of for my first experience on CoH.

It's a far cry from my old WoW Guild.
