Zombies-And why I hate them!!!

Okay, let me first preface this by saying I have only been playing CoH for about 5 month. I am in no way a noob to MMO's though. I had been playing WoW for 2½ years before I left it, to start playing COH. I also wanted to say that i didn't know where else to place this thread, since the place I wanted to put it won't let me, because I do not have

I have just recently (yesterday in fact) reactivated my WoW account, and I will probably leave CoH to go back to Azeroth for good.

The straw that broke the camel's back... ZOMBIES!!!

Okay, now that I have said that, I think I should explain further.

Problems that I have seen in the game for me are things like:

  • Missions that are repetitious; i.e. same layout, same target placement, etc.
  • Missions that keep sending me to "low level" areas to complete them: i.e. Get missions in Brickstown, only to be sent constantly to Atlas Park.
  • Constant Map Server issues (disconnects).
  • Too small a list of power sets: i.e. Why can't I have a scrapper with Martial Arts and Devices (or Traps)?
  • Constant graphics issues, live targets that get knocked through walls, or stuck in them (and now unable to target them).
  • Getting Knocked through walls (same issue as previous, but in reverse).
  • No Voice Client-I've had to spend extra money to get a Ventrilo server.
Now, with Zombies (and the attacks being extended beyond Halloween), This was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Now, there are some WINS here, so don't think this is all negative here.

Some of the WINS for me in CoH are:
  • Very helpful and professional GMs (had some great help when I've had issues to deal with, and relatively quick response time.
  • Fairly Friendly players, and show some decent respect for you if you tell them "no, but thank you for the invite".
  • Well thought out plot lines.
  • Heroes and Villains can "chat" with one another... no language barrier, other than possible real life ones (but none in-game).
  • Global Friends/Ignore List.
That being said, the final thing is Zombies. For me, it's making me regret spending money to be paid up until January 17th. Zombies are making for me, the game unplayable. If I stay in Cimerora, or AE (which I don't care for what AE has become, which is "Power Level Ground Zero"), I'm fine, other than that... Zombies.

Zombies are worse than the "Return of the Rikti Menace" ever was for me.

So, I've started playing WoW again. I'll probably play out my subscription through January, but I'll sign over my SG to one of my members. Not sure if I'll stay with CoH, but right now... Zombies are leaving me cold and disappointed.

Wait, sooo... zombies kill it for you, therefore you're resubscribing permanently to a game where a high percentage of the story and play revolve around an empire of zombies and a playable race of the undead? and, I might add, whose own zombie event had to be turned off last year because it destroyed any chance to play the standard game anywhere at any time, including sideline things like public transport, auction house, and crafting/training?

Here, a zombie event lasts, what, maybe 15 minutes? and in only one or two zones at a time. In CoH, when the zombies come 'round and you don't like them: do an instanced mission, change zones, go to the safety of the tailor to work on that uber-look, buy/sell in Wentworths/Black Market, craft at the university. In a few minutes it will all be over and you can street fight again in better threads, richer, and with more power.

CoH zombies are not my favorite event (though I've done enough for the badges), so I usually do these activities to good benefit.

Sorry, but you should clarify why a brief zombie event here is "making for me, the game unplayable". Just saying "zombies" over and over without detailing the reason doesn't cut it in light of your other game choice.

Not trying to do a real comparison between games, just trying to understand in context of the "zombie" situation.

I do commend you for speaking to the good points that you liked, it is much easier to simply blast and leave. So kudos on that. And I wish you well in your return to what appeals to you.

No... Zombies didn't kill it for me. It was the final straw that broke the camel's back.

If everyone likes it, then that's fine... makes no difference to me. Personally, I do not.

If you read the original post (in it's entirety), it's a combination of things. Zombies are just a symptom of what I personally feel are some poorly laid out concepts. To just have "zombie attacks" is pretty pointless. If I wanted that, I'll watch a George A. Romero film.

Give me some good, driving story, and I'm hooked. Just "ZOMBIES ATTACK!!!"... not so good a hook.

Look, I just wanted to voice my opinion, that's all. Had to put it somewhere, so this is where I put it. Like I said, the Zombies thing is a symptom. Just like AE and it's becoming "power-level ground zero". It's a symptom... nothing more.

So, I voiced my opinion on an open forum. That's my right, and I think I did it professionally, and non-inflaming. I would hope that those who respond would do so in the same manner.

It's not a flame war I'm trying to start... just voicing one man's opinion.

Well, thanks for being with us for some time.

Hope you have fun elsewhere.

CoX is a game where they make big references to many aspects of pop culture, one of then being the stablished Zombie Apocalypse.

The zombie attacks are mainly tied to the halloween, and only occur other times when they are player-triggered by turning costume salvage and jumping on one leg three times while gnawing a bone (what? you dont have that emote?). As so, its a nice touch. As is the Rikti invasions triggered by the LGTF.

There is no perfect game, and CoX has a few glitches that from time to time are fixed.

The powerset lists are being proliferated, according to the theme of the AT.

And the community is the best, no doubt allowed.

Best of fun and wishes for wherever you go and play, even WoW. lol

Some of the cons are understandable, they've been reasons for why others have left, repetitive missions, the zone traveling. The devs have improved that a little CoV side and given more ways to get around to zones quicker, base pads, Pocket D, base porter, Ozone portal, but I hear ya.

I can partially see the zombies attacking just out of blue seems odd but it's for game reasons, same reason why there's mobs on nearly every street corner in a city that's over populated with heroes. Has to be there for gaming reasons. And at least the zombies just don't happen randomly. Like Kay said, they are triggered by the turning in of Halloween salvage on either side, just as Rikti invasions are triggered by LGTF completions. It's a nice middle of the road way for badgers to get them other than the special event itself, Halloween event (like the one going on now) or the occasional return of the Rikti invasion weekends. They at least have just barely enough back story for each to be held for the badgers.

I feel lied to - there is absolutely no "why I hate zombies" in the OP.

I tried Villains, and couldn't really get into them. It's like the Horde vs Alliance thing in WoW. Some like one side, some the other. Different strokes for different folks.

To answer Siolfir, in a way there is... Zombies for me were the final straw. Just not interested.

Look, every game has it's fan base. The question remains to answer.

Would I recommend CoX to other gamers?

The answer is that yes I would. I would tell them about some of the problems I experienced, but would also inform them of the positive side of CoX and NC Soft.

I bought the Magic, Cyborg & Science packs, and don't regret doing so. I had some good experiences with CoX, and some not so good. For me though, the not so good outweighs the good. There's some other issues that I didn't mention, but those weren't so much concerning the game itself... but concerned the truly "ugly side" of gamers.

Look, I wish everyone well... if you enjoy your gaming experience, then I am truly happy for you. Play, enjoy and have fun. I have had some fun here, and who knows... I may decide to play again, but for now... financially I can only support one game, and for me I guess, that game is going to be World of Warcraft for now.

I think that CoX has a lot going for it... and the GM/customer service is a strong part of that.

I find it odd that most of your complaints are actually solved redside, yet you "can't get into playing a villain". Villains play like Heroes, the only real different AT are MMs. I enjoy playing redside because all the crap you complained about is blueside. Maybe you should actually try playing a villain again.

Sounds like CoH just isn't for you, but if you're already paid through Jan 17th, come back for the Winter events; they're fun and while there are some random snow beasts, they're more easily avoided than the zombies.

Yeah... maybe that is the case. I like CoH and all, but perhaps it just isn't for me. That's okay, I tried it and gave it a good 6 month run through.

I am impressed with some of the stuff I've seen for "Going Rogue", but I think I am going to be happier on WoW.

Perhaps it's for the best, for me at least.

I was thinking the same thing.

And besides that, the OP is empirically wrong: it's a proven fact that EVERYTHING is better with Zombies.

Everything.

Yes, that too.

Also Pirates. Pirates and Zombies make everything more awesome.

If this game had Zombie Pirates it'd be the bestest game EVER

The ghost pirates are a step in the right direction, but they're too low level and not common enough. Or zombie enough.

Now I recognize some people like Ninjas and Robots more than Zombies and Pirates. I feel sorry for these wayward souls, but there's no accounting for taste. So I recommend the Devs create a new issue to add pirates, ninjas, and robots to the attacks (maybe even robot ninjas... oooh). Preferably at the same time. Might as well add some Monkeys while we're at it. Everyone likes monkeys

So, with that in mind, I hereby request I-17: Zombie Pirate Robot Ninja Monkey.

As the "official" Park Ranger of the Shard, I welcome zombie Rularuu in all shapes and sizes. It's gets kinda tedious to see the same cast of characters floating in another dimension all the time. The park ranger job is never easy or glamorous, but bring in some zombie Rularuu and I am all good... =)

I could not agree more. The zombies were neat for a couple days, now they are just annoying. I hate being on a "kill X enemies" mission just to have a freakin zombie attack happen that I have to go somewhere else and wait until the stupid thing is over. Why should I have to do that? So a few isolated players can get a badge? Seriously? Lame.

It would be different maybe if they at least gave decent XP, but the truth is, they give some of the worst XP of any critter in the game, so other than badges they only serve to piss players off. Seriously, badges are as useless as achievements on the Xbox360 you get nothing for them and even though other players can see them, they cant tell why you got them so no "respect". I see you got badge X but since it doesnt have some kind of description for all I know you got that for spitting farther than the Statesman...big deal. They are completely pointless. I understand them as a personal marker for your progress but to inconvenience (read: bring to a complete screeching halt) an entire zone for an 8 man zombie team to get a badge is the worst kind of lame.

Zombies as implemented are just a huge nuisance.

PLEASE MAKE THEM GO AWAY FOREVER DEV'S. THEY SUCK.

Oh, and for the record I LOVE zombie movies... but zombies in CoX bear precisely ZERO relation to zombie movies...especially when they drop out of thin air when I am hovering 500 feet off the ground, ya know? Zombie movies are all about being helpless...kind of a hard thing to be when you shoot fireballs and can teleport to the other side of the map.

The Rikti? THAT at least makes sense in a comic book world. But when was the last time you saw the X-men fighting Zombies every two hours?... try NEVER. And there is a reason for that. Because it sucks.

P.S. Dear Dev's... Is the freakin' Halloween Event EVER going to be over? I mean Halloween was over almost 2 weeks ago and I am still dealing with it being midnight 24 hours a day because you borked a patch? TWICE? Really?!? Come on guys, get your stuff together here...I ain't playin' for free ya know.
