280 Million Inf. for a Purple IO? That's Insane!
Dollars you say?
[ QUOTE ]
There's just no way the casual player is ever going to afford a purple recipe now - or is that the idea?
[/ QUOTE ]
Correct, casual players do not care about purple sets, because they are not needed. In fact, I'd say most casual players don't care about IO sets at all.
(If you do care about purples, you might want to re-evaluate if you're actually casual or not )
I'm not a casual player and even I only have a few sets dotted on various characters.
May have been someones bid for 28 mill that they accidentally added a zero to, making someone very happy and rich.

It's not the idea. It's just that the non-casual players want it more. If you want it more, then talk means nothing--only inf.
And really, that's not so expensive compared to some sales I've seen recently.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
The game's monetary system is inherently flawed. You can create money by fighting enemies to spend on the market. However when you spend it on the market you're just giving it to another player.
Very little money is -leaving- the system while millions more is being added per hour. And since the market is cross-server I'm comfortable saying millions per hour. Even the really SLOW hours. :P

At least one PvP IO has sold for 1 billion.
280 million for a purple is not surprising.

[/ QUOTE ]Purples aren't targeted at the casual player. Purples are targeted at the people that wanted super rare loot- loot that was hard to get even for them.
Not everything in the game has to be centered around the lowest common denominator.

Remember, the only way to earn purples in "the wild" is to get them as random drops from enemies that can drop level 50 recipes.
You can't buy them with merits or tickets (so the hordes of players strictly playing MA missions other than Dev's Choice are not able to put purples on the market and up the supply.)

why does a "casual" player need the best enhancements in the game?
If people want "the good stuff" they can make the effort to acquire it, or they can pound sand.
And if you want to see REALLY high prices check out the PvP IOs.

Beef Cake's TP Resist.
[/ QUOTE ]Well, considering they've only been in the game for a short while, and have been bugged to not drop for a good while as well, it's not shocking that they go for extreme prices... the amount in the game and unslotted is going to be rather tiny, while the demand is only going to be increasing.

Nope.
I had one drop (the way I can afford them, should I choose) that I didn't need - sold for 170 mil.
You can either be impatient and spend market prices, or be patient (and have a good network of friends) and wait for them to drop or trade. *shrug*
Another way to look at it is that if you do get the right purple drop, you can sell it and be set for life.

I am still surprised to this day that no one has setup a place for players who hate the markets to trade IOs.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
however said casual player may have gotten it as a random drop during causal play, and guess how set up said casual player will be?

A month or so ago I saw the Panacea go for 1.038 billion. I just kinda stared at it for a while in disbelief. Only billion inf IO I'd seen until the screenie up above.
Then an SG mate bought one a couple weeks ago for 250 million or so. Impatience is costly.

Don't want to be in on the AE hate really, but AE has cut into the supply for these quite a bit.
That's not me hating, that's just how it is.

it's a testament to the efficiency and convenience of the system that nobody's bothered.
well, that and the fact that our play money is SO EASY to make.
But PO's may stress things beyond the breaking point.

Probably because you can't cross server trade.
Seriously! That's what I saw this weekend in the auction house when I went looking for an Apocalypse IO and a few other purples to complete a set I'd begun slotting several months ago.
How is *anything* going for 200 million plus inf. on the auction house? Is the system that unbalanced now? There's just no way the casual player is ever going to afford a purple recipe now - or is that the idea?
*edit*
Deleted the $ sign - sorry about that!
