Chat bug is officially ridiculous
I've not personally experienced this bug. I had assumed it was an issue with the Mac version, given when I started noticing people complaining about it and how rarely even *that* has occurred.

Farewell is like the end

And there you'll always be

I'm not sure that's a very accurate comparison, though. More appropriately, it would be like complaining about the order and being told that, to do it right, they'd have to buy a new oven. Which they should, obviously, but it's not something that can be done while you sit and wait for it to be accomplished. This goes more into maintenance than service, and that sort of thing takes both time and money. Whether it should be higher priority or not is another question entirely.
As for the practical side of things, it seems that chat is intercepting in input stream that it shouldn't be. That it's intercepting it at all tells me that it NEEDS to for some reason we're not aware of, and weeding keyboard input out of it appears to be a tricky problem to fix. That's me more or less blind-guessing, but it seems reasonable to my eyes. The point is that oftentimes bug with simple and obvious effects can be difficult to reproduce consistently and have causes that aren't trivial to fix without either undoing a recent change, which has presumably done because it was desired, or rooting through a complicated house of cards of interdependent systems. The bigger a project becomes, the more of a pain it is to change things without messing up other things and... Well, we get unintended side effects like keyboard input piling into a stream that gets dumped in the chat line on activating it. The chat bug.
Of course, its not having been fixed isn't evidence to its difficulty or complexity, as typos literally trivial to fix have remained in the game, reported time and again, for years due to fixing typos being rock bottom priority.

This isn't power customization, where they were thinking they'd have to literally unpack all the data and rebuild them from scratch. This isn't an already baked cake that we're now trying to change from having been made with margarine to butter.
C'mon, Sam...
There are other issues that are both more pressing and more important, as far as I'm concerned, but this particular bug is the kind of thing that most any player would see as really easy to fix. Now, if that's NOT the case, then fair enough, but let us know so that we can be informed as to why we're putting up with it. If it is the case, however, that it's an easy, quick fix, then... y'know... fix it!
Once again, my complaint could simply be nullified, quite easily I might add, with just a little communication.

Again, I agree that it's been around for far too long and is indeed very much annoying. I'm just not sure it's annoying enough to be "fed up with it." I would certainly very much like to see it fixed, and find it more than a little silly it's been left in this long, but I can't see myself getting angry when it happens. Maybe I'm just lucky to avoid facing it that often, I don't know.

Depends on how much you play, how much you chat and what your tolerances are for that kind of thing. It really is a silly, stupid little bug. I'm not a coder by any means, and I have no real idea, specifically, of what's involved in fixing it, but how hard or time-intensive could it possibly be to fix?
I beg your indulgence as I delve further into a complaint I've had for years about the gaming industry in general. The service that is provided by the vast majority of developers and publishers is abysmal. If I were to go to Denny's and they got my order wrong, I'd signal the server, explain the problem and she'd take it back to the kitchent to either fix the order or redo it entirely, and it would be done without any kind of fuss (assuming it was both a legitimate complaint on my part and that I was polite and respectful about it).
Is it really too much to ask of gaming companies in general for, at the very least, service that I would expect at a damn Denny's?

Stop using terrible analogies.
I think the bug is highly amusing and it rarely happens to me since I pay attention to what I'm sending into chat.
And of course it should be fixed, but get over this "gaming industry, developers are ebil" nonsense already.
Seriously, a Denny's analogy? Wow, and people think I drink alot.
It ruins my PvP broadcast trash talking. Fix it Devs!

This I agree with. Whether the bug is bad and whether it's easy to fix aren't as important as the fact that it's a highly visible bug, and as such would do well with being publicly addressed.

Pretty much.
I have almost infinite patience when dealing with bugs and/or issues with the service I'm purchasing, as long as the service provider tells me what's going on and what to expect. Whether it's a plate of food I ordered, someone paving my driveway or whether it's a game vendor.

The disturbing part of this inability to clear the keyboard cache, or whatever, is that when I log to swap characters, I've gotten some of that crap entered when I type my password to get back in.
That, plus everyone can see what you've been bidding at WW's.

[/ QUOTE ]So you're saying you want NCSoft to "spit in your food"? Honestly, no matter if you are right and completely respectful/polite, you can't predict a server or cook getting annoyed at having to redo an order and giving you a little "surprise".
I hate when I log out and back in. Yup, the garbage text will fill in the password field at times. This bug is extremely annoying.

All one really needs to do to avoid the chat bug is have a look at his or her chat line before typing. If there is garbage text in it, hit escape and retry. You'll write over the garbage text at next chat activation. Not to say it's not a bug or not annoying, but it's hardly ridiculous.
[/ QUOTE ]
For me, it's basically the difference between being able to type in combat and not being able to. Which is pretty big. I can type a sentence or two quickly... doing it twice or trying to remove three lines of '12439834275989889873wwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaa', not so much.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I don't hit the bug often enough that I made that connection. Thanks!
Whats bad is being at the market and typing your numbers in only to see that all those numbers are now hiding in your chatbox waiting to pounce on your next broadcast!

Whats even worse, is when this bug hits, I can't use the down arrow for moving back. So if i don't realize there is hidden text in the chat window blocking the down from working and I'm getting my booty wooped cuz i can't move backwards......................................... .................................................. .................................
need i say more... the fix is to hit enter twice and the down arrow starts working again but its irritating as sin.
